The answer is Hell NO. Look, arthritis is difficult but it's not a game changer. Like I said in another post, dealing with the disease is simply a matter of management. I know I have arthritis, but was very physically active until my 60's. There is no reason Gurley can't still be an impact player. Now that they know what they are dealing with it's simply a matter of management. Case in point if they are way ahead kicking butt then sit him. Also remember last year they lost Brown for the season in December so they had to play Gurley more than perhaps they would have. After they clinched they could have rested Gurley for the most part and allowed Brown to carry the load. But they didn't have that option. With only Davis and Kelly, neither of whom showed enough, they had to rely on Gurley.

That is why drafting Henderson was significant. With both Brown and Henderson it will be easier for the team to manage the work load without impacting the offense. Last year Gurley played 85% of the snaps. This year they can cut that down to 80% which may not seem like much but it is enough for Gurley and not enough to impact the offense negatively.

Brown was playing well until he was injured. To be honest I've never been a big fan of Brown. But he showed me something last year that I hadn't seen in him before. I think it impressed the Rams too which is why they matched his offer sheet. I'm glad he's back.

Paying an MVP caliber player his well-deserved money? I think it's a good deal when Gurley bounces back this year, with the help of Brown, Henderson, and Kelly (and yes, I think Kelly makes the roster over the others).

Like @oldnotdead stated in his post, if Gurley gets help, gets even a bit of his snaps cut, he'll be absolutely fine.

I don't feel they should regret it, and I'm pretty skeptical they do. If the worst does happen and Gurley just doesn't have a big impact going forward, I still think investing in your own stars is a great show of faith for a franchise. It's part of the culture that makes players see themselves with the Rams for the long term, because while McVay is great and players want to play for him, they also want to see that their efforts will be rewarded.

Yeah, it's hard to put a price on that. But factors like that do matter, especially when the guys you invest in are hard workers who are universally respected like Gurley and Donald. Show the kids that good results and buying into the culture will make them good money!

And why would the Rams regret extending Gurley? IMO, extending last year makes it easier to get a deal done for Goff. Until I see some evidence that their is something wrong with Gurley I am not buying into the bullshit about Gurley being hurt. Gurley looked as explosive as usual against the cowgirls, yet the media acts like Gurley didnt even play in that game. After the season Gurley has this year his contract will look like a good deal for the Rams.

I think the contracts teams regret are the ones where they over pay Free agents or older decling players.

You can’t predict these types of injuries.

I think they may regret overusing Gurley however. Not to say i told you so but i did mention they should scale his workload down in 2017, and i got lectured about it.

No. Gurley was the best offensive player the Rams had drafted in some time and gave him a 2nd contract. Did what they needed/had to do. Zero regret.

Well TG30 has done nothing other than exceed expectations since dawning the Blue & Gold or White. So if we are to be speculative I guess he could disappoint this season. I choose to think not!

I look at it as the price of doing business. He is such a big part of the team that you don't want to piss everyone off on the team if you create a hold out or trade etc.. Plus it shows potential FAs that you take care if your people.

So while they may regret it in another year, it is what it is. I think they can walk away in a few yrs without much issue cap wise so you deal with it.

I'd rather have Gurley at Saffold's $11M.

How did you get $13.333M? If he was under contract for 2018 and 2019. The 5th year option was 2019. So 2020 is the first year of the new deal even though TG gets his bonus money up front and changes his 2018/2019 cap hits. The years 2020, 2021 and 2022 will be averaging much more with the signing bonus averaged in.

The totals for 2020-2022 are $17.25M + $13.20M+$14.20M plus he got an extra money in 2018/2019 over $2.3M thats close to $47M for 3 years. That's an average of around $15.66M. Like with Elliott the Rams had the 5th year option so that year is not part of the extension.

It’s kinda funny that media is saying that the Rams never should’ve extended Gurley when they didn’t have to, but does anybody believe that the Cowboys are gonna play hardball with Zeke and force him to play on his rookie deal? Of course not.

I think regret is a strong word, but I do think it'd be foolish to think that the Rams don't regret it in some sense.. Gurley is a big part of the offense and is electric, a gamechanger. However, with the success of CJ Anderson in the short time he was with us makes you wonder if Gurley is truly worth all that money or if it's the Offense/OL that makes him look good.

Don't get me wrong, I love Gurley, and was all for giving him the money. However, hindsight is always a pain in the you know what. Looking back, yes.

CJ Anderson helped us out when we needed him, but let's not get carried away and undermine two straight seasons of being in the discussion of NFL MVP.

Let's be honest, CJ came in when the division was wrapped against perhaps the two worst teams in the league. The Cowboys game was great, but there was no tape to game plan against how we'd use him, and I'm sure the Saints and Patriots saw that they just had to clog the middle when he's in the game.

Most backs in the league can put together 100 yrd games but doing it consistently against game plans is what separates the elite backs in the league.

Brown and Henderson should be more than enough to keep Todd healthy and fresh come playoff time. Todd has been a complete workhorse for 4 years and has had 3 great seasons, with two MVP level years. We cant regret the contract after that level of production. I say now though we only play him 70%-75% of snaps and let him just destroy in the postseason.

The other aspect to this that's being overlooked, Todd is super competitive and has heard the narrative all off season. EVERYONE is writing him off this year after how things ended down the stretch last season. He was arguably the best back in the league and now he's just a washed up injury prone RB with arthritis. Todd could come out and be his usual self and keep running over the league assuming he's healthy. If we can make sure he stays fresh, with the addition of Henderson and the return of Kupp, our offense can actually be better this year. IMO it's safe to assume both Goff and Everett continue to ascend.
