OK. I got the nerve to call. All I said when they first answered was "I don't want to pay for the nfl sunday ticket." They transferred me. After a 10 minute hold, I said the same thing and the gentleman gave me a discount of $16.50 + $32 = $48.50 x 6 months. So, that reduces the cost from $65.99 per month to $17.49. I said, "Ok, but that's not enough." He replied that he would go ahead and apply those discounts and transfer me to retention for further discounts. I'm on hold now for "retention". I'll add an edit when I'm done to share what happens next.

Edit. Got on the phone with retention. All I said after giving my name and numbers was, "I've been a customer over two decades (since 1996). The gentleman on the previous call gave me a $48 monthly discount for 6 months, but that's not enough. So, he said I should ask you for additional discounts." She immediately offered me an additional $55 per month for 12 months! That's $660! Bam!

So, all together:

$48.50 x 6 = $291; $291 + $660 = $951 Total Discounts over the next 12 months.

Sunday Ticket is $65.99 x 6 = $395.94

$951-$395.94 = $555.06

So, the net result of my call was a $555 savings off my bill plus free Sunday Ticket. Needless to say, "I'M A HAPPY CAMPER".

Hope this helps everyone!!!

Figured I'd reach out and check, anyone out there try to negotiate a free year this year?
I've gotten the ticket free the last 3 years but haven't made my annual call yet.

I haven't seen the ticket offered for free to new subscribers, so I'm not feeling too confident...
I've gotten it free for the last four years, and here's how......Go directly to the cancellation Department ( they are the only ones that are going to help you, don't even bother with regular customer service, you'll be wasting your time).
When they answer this is exactly what I say.... How you doing? Listen I'm going to be honest with you and let you know right now that I'm not looking to cancel, I love DirecTV and everything you guys do, but I am having a little bit of financial difficulty this year and was wondering if you can help me out on the NFL ticket? If I can get it for free that would be a huge huge bonus for me, because times are really hard for me right now, and I know that you guys in the cancellation department have all the power to help out with this kind of thing!
That's it!! Kill them with kindness, don't be a douche and make threats, being funny helps a lot, show them that you have a good sense of humor. I like to throw in a couple times in the conversation how much would mean to me if they helped me out. I used to always threaten to cancel, and get it for free that way, but I hated being a jerk. One day I decided to kill him with kindness and it's worked for the last 4 years! Good luck and go get yours!!
GO RAMS!!!

Well, I made the plunge.
They are giving me $60 per month off my bill for 1 year, $720 saving which pays for the ticket. Plus I got some 1 time credit. Wow, I get my Rams fix again!! Woot!

I'm sure most of you probably know this. I don't have DTV. I get the SundayTicket by finding a college student that's not interested in using the college discount and use their info to sign up. Can stream the whole season for $100.

You are the only guy I know that has had Direct TV almost as long as me (95) How long have they been around 94 ?
I was one of those guys who bought it at Sears for 900$ and installed it myself. When the Rams moved I bought it. In Humboldt we got about 7 games a year, one-two more if they were good. And we all know that was not very often.

If you call and complain about your bill tell them you want out, straight to retention. I already had a year of 30-40$ off a month or something like that. So there was no money off per month available to me since I was on it already.
And I simply asked about Sunday Ticket and got what I was after the whole time.
I am always a dick about it, asking all pissed off about my bill. Get what I want and apologize for not being so nice when I am done.
Works. But you have to make them give you a reason to keep giving them money since there are other ways to get your entertainment these days.

I don’t get it. Is it the luck of the draw? I have only had one person that had interest in helping me over the years. The majority just say okay see ya. Kind of pisses me off

Yes, DIRECTV started offering service in 1994 along with NFL Sunday Ticket. My family were season ticket holders for the Rams from 1980 to 1994. After the Rams left for St. Louis, I got DIRECTV for the only purpose of watching Rams games. I missed it for the 1995 season. It was new technology and it took me a year to decided to try it out, so I signed up in 1996.

I was one of those guys who bought it at Sears for 900$ and installed it myself.
I bought my satellite at Circuit City in Lake Forest, Orange County. I can't remember the price, but$500-$600 seems like the range I paid. Maybe $900; I can't recall exactly. Unlike you, no way in hell was I going to try and install it myself. I suck at do-it-yourself. So, I had a serviceman install it.

So this year, I didn't act upset, or ask to cancel my subscription. I did and said exactly as I wrote in my previous post. I was on that $45 12 month discount plan. But, it ran out this month, so I asked them to give me more discounts again and it worked.

I've done the same thing the last couple years, and it has worked for me. I jus call up and ask for options regarding cancellation. Eventually they ask why and I say its too expensive and the only reason I have it, is for the ticket. Without the ticket, I have better options. The kid today was surprised and said I was eligible for discounts. Put me on hold and came back with my offer. I didn't push for anything more. Its at least my 3rd straight year getting it free +, maybe even 4th

I'm a student. I pay 80$ for Sunday ticket streaming capability. I feel that is fair.

Try calling again! I've pulled this off for like 6 years straight. And, you see all the other posts here that have had success. So, try again. It feels real good not paying for it!!!

The fella that gave me the 30-40 $ off a month told me to call two weeks before the season starts. Thats when they offer it for free. He was right.

Yeah, you should check your bill because that $30-$40 may have ran out, and you can get it again. But, they raised the 6 payments up to $65.99 this season. So, you should ask for discounts to cover that in full.

Look at @dieterbrock's post earlier. He called today and got $60 monthly discount for 12 months!

Call 'em up again!!!

gotta give 'em a call; I've been getting DirecTV free since the team moved back to Los Angeles. I live in the Los Angeles TV market so I get all Ram games now on the network station but I still love DirecTV for the other out-of market games. Thanks for the info. One game at a time. Let's beat the Ray-ders. Never did like that team and many of their thuggish fans.

BTW I would love to contribute $100.00 to "Rams on Demand" to help keep the blog going. How would I go about doing this?
Thanks,

Been streaming for free (ok, just $50 internet bill) since 2013 and this will be my 6th year in a row. No cable TV or cable bills since 2010. I don't miss paying $100+ a month for TV when I can stream free, it's never happening again.

I cancelled mine. with the team doing so good last year and based on when they play vs when the whiners play I should get all but 4 games on my local channels. have to find a place to watch the other 4.

may try to stream those.
Yeah... I made the mistake of buying it the year after we won the SB and I think there was only one game not televised on regular TV in my area that year. And I ended up watching that one at a friend’s house. I’m thinking with streaming and regular TV, I probably won’t miss much.
