He was drafted as a right-handed pitcher in the 31st round of the MLB draft by the Boston Red Sox.

Thought that was sort of interesting. . .

With as funky as his arm action is throwing the football I wonder what his pitching mechanics looked like.

Unrelated throwing motions.

Disagree. That bullet Davis through on the scramble bouncing out to the left showed strength and a tight spiral.

I think it's more about Davis mechanics, particularly the feet. When he gets his feet set through the motion, he put some spin on it.

Nowhere near Bradford's bullets, but he has the capability.

Agreed.
His footwork can be inconsistent. When he is set and steps into his throw he can get it there no issue.
I think a big part of throwing an NFL football well is hand size. I can barely grip an NFL football.
What I meant by the throwing motion is throwing a baseball has little relation to a football in terms of hands, pronation, external rotation ect. There is a reason why NFL QBs have very few elbow/shoulder throwing injuries compared to MLB pitchers....it (football) is a much less explosive and taxing movement.
I don't know if Davis was a pitcher or not.

he didn't play baseball at Southern Miss, but his brother Bo played on the USM team that went to the College World Series. I umpired in Conference USA for years, and Hattiesburg is one of my favorite college towns anywhere. The Davis name in Hattiesburg is almost as well known as the Favre name.

Beg to disagree, CoachO. Davis did play for Southern Miss in the fall of 2007.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
Former Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis was selected in the 31st round (961st overall pick) by the Boston Red Sox Wednesday in the final day of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Davis, from Meridian, Miss., only played on the Southern Miss baseball squad in the fall of 2007, after finishing his all-state prep career at West Lauderdale High School. He concentrated solely on football following that fall and reached great heights on the gridiron, which included a Conference USA championship last fall and a second-team All-Conference USA nod.

The 6-foot-2, 221 lb., right-handed thrower, established school career marks for passing yards (10,892), touchdown passes (83), completion percentage (.611) and total offense (12,267) among other records that he broke during his 45-game career.

He started every game that he played in during his tenure at Southern Miss, missing the final eight games of the 2009 campaign with a foot injury.

The quarterback did not get drafted in the recent National Football League Draft but signed a free-agent contract with the St. Louis Rams and is currently on their roster.

Davis was the only player with Southern Miss connections to be drafted on the third and final day of the 40-round draft. His older brother, Bo, played baseball at the school from 2006-2009 and was a member of the 2009 College World Series team.

He was drafted as a right-handed pitcher.

He was on the FALL roster, which means he did NOT play in the Spring Season, which, in case you aren't aware, is when the college baseball season is played. He never played a college baseball game for Southern Miss.

As a former pitcher, a lot of the guys on deployment used to joke that I threw the football "weird".
Yeah. Once my son started pitching the football would come of his hand differently.
With a heavier implement (football) pronation after release happens naturally, this protects the elbow. The arm is also (naturally) moving slower. When working with pitchers the hard part to get parents to understand is when throwing weighted baseballs the injury risk is much higher with under weight balls (3-4 oz) than overweight baseballs (6-9 oz).
