We've all heard of a Super Bowl hangover for the runner-up, but any playoff loss can have a lasting impact if it reveals weaknesses that might impact the team's confidence going forward.

I wonder if that is what we did to the Seahawks.

They entered the playoffs with a lot of confidence, having won four straight and six of their last seven games. They had the home field, and were facing a Rams team they had recently beaten, playing with a backup QB (or, as fate dictated, an injured starter).

But it didn't go as planned. The Rams dominated the game, and ended the Seahawks' season.

That's bad enough, but it was the way we beat them that seems to have had lasting effects. Their offense was completely ineffective, as we harassed Russell Wilson (5 sacks, 10 QB hits) into one of the worst performances of his career.

The backlash came quickly. Brian Shottenheimer was fired as OC (ironically replaced by a Rams assistant). D.K. Metcalf publicly declared that teams had figured out their offense. And, now, we hear Russell Wilson publicly complaining about the support he's received, potentially prompting trade talks.

Their defense may also have lost some confidence. The Rams were able to control the game, rushing for 164 yards and controlling the clock for over 33 minutes. Jared Goff, was able to be efficient and productive, despite being less than two weeks removed from thumb surgery. This outcome from a defense that was bolstered by a safety, Jamal Adams, who cost the Seahawks two first and a third round pick in the 2021-22 drafts.

Add to that the fact that the Seahawks have 8 starters set to be UFAs (Chris Carson, Mike Iupati, Ethan Pocic, Cedric Ogbuehi, Poona Ford, Bruce Irvin, Shaquill Griffin, Quinton Dunbar), and this could be a a tough offseason for the Seahawks.

What a difference a month makes. The Hawks are reeling, and we're starting to look like the team to beat in the West!

I think we are seeing Carroll's final days in Seattle. Only thing that would save him is if Waldron kills it which is unlikely. They may start hot with this scheme but I don't think he is good enough.

Nah Wilson is done with Carroll IMO.

Pete is stupidly overrated and Wilson has been carrying that team for years now.

Last year the cooking drama was essentially a threat to Carroll that he would go elsewhere if he didn't put the ball in his hands more. Midseason he took it out of his hands.

I think he's done with Carroll, and he should be. They drafted their way to a Super Bowl, and now have drafted their way to being a 3-13 team without Wilson.

They just signed him in November to a huge extension through 2025 - no way they eat that.

I think he's on that final slide basically. Might take another year or two but I don't think he's gonna be able to play in the deep end with McVay and Shanahan.

I may be mistaken, but I don’t think it does anything to their cap
Of course not. He makes more than $10 mil per though @ five more years. That shit's guaranteed. We'll be beatin his ass for several more years. :ROFLMAO:

We brought them back to reality. I think it's honestly one of the most weird 12-4 teams I've seen, won almost all their games by one score, their identity completely changed mid season, etc.
We had our own snap back to reality against the Packers a week later.

It feels a bit like that was the end of an era though, might see a decline from them. CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT.

Pete’s defense is old news. He has no new tricks to change it. Remember him bragging a few years ago? “ we just play our base defense”. As if he had it all figured out.

Offensively he’s clueless. He is grasping at straws. I give Fisher and Greg Williams for figuring out how to defend these scrambling or running QBs first. Every team knows how to get it done. Any with the right personnel can do it.

Very clever thread topic.

I’ll say this. I now think that Seahawks are 3rd best team in this division.

And the Cards may not be that far behind, frankly.

Exactly. Teams have been riding that Cover 3 bus now since the Legion of Boom and the schemes have evolved nicely to smoke it. This is why split safeties are back in vogue with quarters trending for 2021 and beyond.

He's definitely struggling right now. Hiring Waldron was desperate man. It's the right scheme for Wilson but not the right OC to run it.

Agree that Carroll is not an offensive rocket scientist. But Wilson is another matter.

It may be a drill that everyone knows how to defend, but Wilson has been amazingly successful at making off schedule plays to win games in the 4th quarter. You can stop him all day and he can beat you with one play at the end.

Seattle will be a threat in our division as long as they have Wilson.

Hopefully Pete drives Wussell so mad by running the ball more, he bails to the AFC. I just hope Pete sticks around a year or 2 after if that happens so we can smash the Shecocks and that stupid look off his face. Whatever helps the Rams, I'm all for it. I honestly think that Seattle's shitty drafting and/or construction of the offensive line is what is driving the frustration. That and Donald putting Wussell's ass in the grass.

I fear as long as the midget is playing at a high level Seattle will be in the hunt.

The irony here is that bringing in our system means they're going to run the ball. This attack requires ground game balance.

Seattle's problem is that OL. How they haven't built a line with great OGs in this division I just don't get it lol.
