I studied the 27 yr old corner Grant Haley there at the end but he is a UFA & he can easily go anywhere he wants to the highest bidder $$$$.

So I am of the opinion he is highly questionable as to his return.

But I would agree with you guys Grant Haley played very well early before injury.
Hm

I read RFA on OTC

Soon to be 32 yr old Veteran Troy Hill might be all these things however it will be for only 2 more games. Hill will be a UFA is 2023.
Durant is under contract for 3 more seasons after 2022.

I would project the 2023 Corner unit will look something like this:
Jalen Ramsey
Robert Rochell
Decobie Durant
Derion Kendrick
Shaun Jolly
I'd bring Troy Hill back. He's a solid vet and shouldn't be expensive to retain on a short-term deal. Rochell and Kendrick haven't shown they can be solid, consistent players yet. I also would love to see us bring Aubrey Pleasant back. Think he could work wonders with a raw but talented guy like Rochell.

I agree. Hill is a proven and flexible player. He won’t command a ton of $ and he fits well here.

We are going to need some FA’s to fill out the 2023 team… Might as well go with a guy we know well.

That would be good if correct. Rams could easily sign him to a 2 yr contract IF he was a RFA. We could use him. Spotrac has Haley listed as a UFA. He was signed to a 1 yr contract for 2022.

On Troy Hill he might be an Econo resigned if other teams watch his Denver game they will avoid signing him for sure. Troy Hill was deplorable in the Christmas game. I do not see Troy Hill as a highly sought-after UFA in March.

CB Robert Rochell has been a complete bust thus far! highly injury-prone & has shown nothing in 2 seasons. When he can not get on the field ahead of another poor playing corner 6th rd rookie Derion Kendricks it's obvious there is a huge problem here.

Isn’t Pleasant working in GB now?

I was wondering if his showing in Detroit made it clear the Evero was the real talent teaching Rams DBs when they were here.
As a consultant. That wouldn't prevent us from hiring him as a coach.

Detroit did well with CB development while he was there. I think the bigger issue is him and Glenn were apparently clashing over coverages. Evero coached the safeties here and did a phenomenal job, but Pleasant was the guy at CB. During his time here, Troy Hill and Darious Williams developed from fringe roster guys into starters. And we got solid play out of guys like NRC and Kayvon Webster. I'd love to have him back. The CB development hasn't been as good since he left imo.

Durant was by far my favorite draft pick and I am glad to see him finally getting the play time he deserves. He's a bit weak in the run game and will probably get burnt a few times going for turnovers but his ball skills will more than make up for it. This defense has sorely missed that ball hawk ability for a few years now.

He’s a twin of Jason Verrett … but 9
Pounds lighter.

Great ball skills… can he survive?

Speaking of coaches The DB’s coach was Shula this season.IMO it was a weird move, but Mcvay wanted to bring in the LB coach from the Broncos Chris Beake.

Thomas Brown to TE coach. He is now the RB’s coach & Mcvay went over to him Mic’d up & made sure to thank him for getting Cam Ackers going & like he had done in the past.

Zak Kromer was the TE’s coach as well & he really helped his dad out running the offensive line & TE’s on their blocking. It’s sort of CRAZY how both those positions really SHINED against Denver.

Then there is Pleasant who is from Michigan & was giving back to the community. It made sense for him at the time to move on.Mcvay gave him his release to go to Detroit. They are tight from there Washington days.
He is a Dawg - meaning he is a guy that leads & players respect. He sort of runs the show.
Very voiceterous & gets into the music. He’d bring back a good vibe.

Didn’t understand Raheem Morris with him in a goal line stance. He has a hard time getting through blocks, but he is a smart kid. Finds a way to the ball. I the Kendrick is getting a bad rap though. As a rookie he played well & showed he belongs. Durant was the higher draft pick.

I understand why McVay took some risks this year, but that Samples guy ended up being too green. Brown is a really good HB Coach. Glad he's in that role for us again. I think having Shula coach the DBs is another error. I think a guy like Derion Kendrick would benefit greatly from a coach of Pleasant's ability, as Kendrick has skills. Rochell would too, as a guy who has a lot of athletic gifts.

Nice post - agree
Yeah - RR31 looks lost.On special teams his tackling is nit good.Against Denver the couple reps he got the same. Hard call, but sad he hasn’t improved or stepped up.
—David Long is gone.He never cut it,but he plays hard.Seems to always be a step slow.

Pleasant was an excellent CB’s coach, for The Rams. Wonder if was counting on getting a DC job?

Decobie Durant will be our starting Corner in 2023.

The Rams will be paying $3 million of cap funds to Troy Hill when he is long gone that was pushed out into the future. Hill is not under contract to play here after this 2022 season concludes.

The 32 yr old Hill is no longer starting material. He would best serve this DB unit as the 5th CB in 2023, IF they could afford to resign him. Hill has been getting snaps that these younger corners could have used in order to see thier future value to this organziation. Youth will be big in this Ram secondary

Rams 2023 CB unit
Jalen Ramsey-29yrs old
(Maybe ) Grant Haley 27 yrs old
Robert Rochell 25 yrs old
Shaun Jolly 25 yrs old
Decobie Burant 24 yrs old
TJ Carter 23 yrs old
Derion Kendrick 22 yrs old

I really liked Grant Haley's play... I don't think he's a starter.. but, he was a physical and reliable player.
I think they need to draft a guy in the 2nd or third.. IF Rochell isn't panning out. They need a bigger, athletic guy on the outside... counting on someone Durant's size to last there, especially with teams like the 9ers in the division, isn't a good bet.
