just a little info on our lineman, Edwards was a tackle at Wisconsin and played hurt his final season dropping from a projected 2nd rounder to us down in the 5th round,
from wiki
During college, Edwards started eating breakfast and gained 20 pounds in his first six months. By August 2016, Edwards had grown to 275 pounds.[1] After his Sophomore season, Edwards was named to the AFCA First-team All-American.[2] Edwards considered declaring for the 2018 NFL draft, but eventually decided against it. One factor that swayed Edwards was a talk with Wisconsin alumnus and Cleveland Browns player Joe Thomas, who told Edwards that he would remember his final year at Wisconsin more than his rookie season in the NFL.[3] Prior to the 2018 season, Edwards was named pre-season second team All-Ameriacan by Sporting News,[4] Sports Illustrated,[5] and the Associated Press.[6] Edwards was also named a first team All-Ameriacan by Athlon Sports.[7] On January 1, 2019, Edwards announced that he would forgo his final year of eligibility and declare for the 2019 NFL Draft.[8]

Thought Edwards did a great job coming off the bench, some of the holes Henderson ran through was off of Edwards ass and BTW Austin Blythe doing well at Center IMO so far too.

I think Edwards should be the starter in that spot. Period.

Some guys, like Boom, are just better at certain positions on the OL and not so good at others, hence the reason he's more fit to play tackle than guard. Same reason Blythe is a better center than guard. It doesn't matter why that is, it just matters that that "is".

Start Edwards at G. Give Boom the reps at LOT on Whitworth's days off (and may be on his days on, since Whit could do most of this stuff in his sleep). Get Boom ready to be the starting LOT.

Haven't studied Notebloom enough to speak on his overall play this year, I do know his
trap angle on a play in dallas game was terrible.
Trapper first responsibility is to kick out first player to cross his face.
If no one crosses your face, then you are supposed to lead in the hole.
You should lead with your body square to the hole, head on a swivel.
The one thing you don't do is lead in the hole on a 45 degree angle as this allows
defender to get inside your kickout,
You can give the defender the outside to an extent because he will run himself out of play.
(unless his name is AD.LOL)

Study some more. He still struggles to find blocks on the move and in space. He whiffs often. Can’t hold blocks long and often gets pushed back.
I hope they keep Edwards in the rest of the season.

Can't disagree with you there Elmgrovegnome, now that you mention it I remember seeing announcers
commenting on him being unable to hold his block on a play in the Dallas game.
I am a Edwards fan as well.

I have been a big fan of Edwards since he stepped in last season—which is when the OL began to steadily improve. I think Noteboom is out of position and playing next to Whitworth is gotta be more instructive than playing side by side another rookie (last year).

It wasn’t long ago the Rams had saffold next to the ”Mountain” on the left and Havs and Higbee teaming up on the right. We ran on practically everybody then.
We could have that again with this group.

Noteboom is a case of a Coaches pride getting in the way of putting in the best player. Noteboom hasn't played well at LG in his NFL career yet. He's constantly been ranked the worst Olineman on the Rams this season by far per PFF. Coaches often get caught trying to play their lower draft picks because they don't want to admit they were wrong about the guy. Or they see "potential". Screw that, put the best guy in. It's why coaches like Pete Carroll have been so successful year after year. McVay really needs to hone in on that attribute and run with it. Because it could, and will come back to bite him in the ass one day.

BTW did you notice how much better our run game became once Edwards was in the game? It was glaringly obvious

I’m not so sure it’s a matter of pride. Rapp has been replaced by Fuller. Rapp was a second round pick. Also think about the zone blocking scheme that they are trying to run. They want Olinemen with good lateral mobility. It’s why they loved Corbett. He has very good feet.
So they look at Edwards who is a bit upright and stiff, vs Noteboom who has good lateral movement. In theory Noteboom is a better scheme fit. He’s a better puller. The problem is that Noteboom misses blocks frequently, can’t lock on for long and gets pushed backwards in Pass Pro. Edwards does all of those things well except the pulling.

So to us it was a failed experiment that was predictable this summer. To the coaches they saw a guy who can move and they thought could learn to block. It’s time for Noteboom to back up Edwards. I hope it stays this way.

I am not buying in the pride thing either.

Gurley would still be on our team if that was the case IMO.

agree as of right now if Edwards continues to ball out.

He looked good at LG.Last season he started at LG then moved to RG & got beat out by Corbett. I liked the way both played in 2nd hf against Philly.

Hensrson cutting back with Havenstien bringing the DE inside
was a positive to see.

A 3rd round pick they dont want to admit defeat on is my honest guess

I think it was nice having Noteboom out there getting reps. Edwards & Evans are quality backups. It will be interesting to see what the future holds, but Notebooms injury is not such a bad thing. It gives The Rams coaching staff game film to evaluate both players when live games.

If it is time to look at Noteboom as strictly the future LT then he gained even more experience getting playing time. He will be a quality backup if Edwards keeps his new starting spot.

It hasn't backfired and led to us losing games, but having Boom out there to "develop" when Edwards had clearly proven to be a better guard was not smart IMO. The eye test and every OL metric also said so. Now we're down one on interior OL depth when we didn't need to be.

And to me through 3 years Noteboom hasn't shown enough to assume he wins the future LT position. At this point I think Edwards and Evans both are more likely to start at LT when Whit retires. You think after 2 full years of learning and trying to develop at guard and playing badly, he can just slot back over to LT and suddenly becomes a good player? I think Edwards and Evans both are just better football players.

People get so stuck on when players were drafted... like with Fuller beating out Rapp this year. There are a ton of late round players, undrafted players, etc. that end up being much better than higher round picks. Happens all the time. You need to prove it on the field with your play, and through 3 years Noteboom hasn't shown shit except the fact he cant play guard nor stay healthy.
