Dan was the best passer I’ve ever seen. His problem was hi GM and Head Coach didn’t know how to give him any support in the run game or on defense. I use to love watching the dolphins play because no matter who they played it was going to be a high scoring game and I loved watching Marino in action after his defense let him down again and again. If a Marino led team would’ve had better defenses they would won a Super Bowl or two and possibly taken one away from the niners.

Probably able to throw a football over them mountains too. If only coach had put him in, they’d have won state.

Edit: Well fuck, I just read the first post and didn’t look at the replies, I was beaten by someone who did more work.

Well, taking a different angle -- I'm thinking today's receivers in today's NFL wouldn't put up with Dan being Dan and yelling at his receivers:

"B/R: You remember the old wide receiver Mark Clayton who played for the Dolphins?

Rivers:
Oh yeah.

B/R: He used to complain that when Dan Marino would make a mistake, he would point to the receiver and yell, 'Man, that was a terrible throw.' But fans would always think he was yelling at the receivers. Clayton just hated that. He said, 'Even when Marino is taking the blame, it looks like I'm the problem.'"

I know, I know, best pure passer.......

Marinos delivery and release were great for their time, but believe it or not, QBs have also developed and progressed since then as well as defensive shemes and now I think Marino might find the speed of the pass rush and the closing speed of DBs would make it harder than it used to be in his glory years.

I think was having some fun with the question.

It would be fun to see him on the Chiefs throwing to all that speed they have.

Look at the numbers he put up without the blessing of an elite receiving corps and an offense unaware of the coming aerial revolution. In his first full year of starting (1984) Marino threw for 5,064 yards and 48 touchdowns.

Like @Pancake pointed out Duper and Clayton were small WR's but they had some pro bowl trips early on in the Dolphins Marino era years.

Think of what kind of numbers The Dutchman could have put up with this logic. He threw for 400+ in some games in the 50s. That would be like 800 in today's game. He'd throw for 8,000 easy. And that would still be in a 12 game season. :blowme:

Otto Graham would average 22 YPA and win 15 titles in 10 years.
