So, I am what I would consider a "Manly Man". I think a lot of us are. But I have noticed, that as I've gotten older, shit hits different. I can't be the only one. Tell me a story about something that caught you unexpectedly and ended with tears.

Not many things get me, but, it happened last night. I love the show "Deadliest Catch".

I dont have fb or anything like that. So I miss a lot of news.

This episode was about a deckboss from The Summer Bay dying from an overdose just a few days before the new season started.

At the end of the episode, they did a tribute and my ass had tears flowing from my eyes. It was terrible.

I watched "a dog's purpose" not to long ago. If your a dog owner or have had a dog that was your best friend. That movie will turn your eyes into Niagara falls.

Last year in January I had to have my beloved Beagle "Flash" put down because he was in daily pain from cancer. It took six weeks for me to react appropriately and break down and sob for an hour. That's him on the couch ignoring my son's dog Joni.

Sorry to hear about Flash PT... he was so lucky to have you as his Pops, and I'm sure he knew how lucky he was.

My thoughts are with you Brudda.

Its hard for some people to understand how much we love our pets. My little buddy Guapo is dying. He has congestive heart failure, pancreatitis and failing kidneys. He's 15 years old now. I know they don't live as long as we do. But watching him go downhill is tough.

I've been thinking about putting him down but the vet says he's not really in any pain. He's just feeling run down and tired much like we do when we have a flu bug. That is a decision I can put on hold for now. It will be very tough to let him go but if he's suffering I know it'll be the right thing to do.

He was a 9 pound chihuahua that people said looked like a mini pit bull with his muscular body. Now I can see his back bone and rib cage. Looks malnourished. He's down to 7 pounds now. But he still eats and has normal bowel movements. He just sleeps a lot more now. The vet thought he wouldn't last more than a week or two when I took him there on May 7. He's hanging in there. Still wants to sit on my lap. I posted this pic in the My Dog Rocks thread.

I completely feel your pain, Prime. I sobbed for hours after Granger, my golden retriever, was put down. He was the first friend I had as a little kid.

Two good things came out of losing Flash. (1)A new sappy song I wrote and recorded (2) Hank aka Hankzilla aka Hankenstein, a Blue Tick Beagle, Coonhound mix with big, green eyes. I adopted him from a website called "Rescue Me." Drove up to Pittsburgh and brought him home. He turned 3 a few weeks ago.

I need to sign up for Bandcamp or some other site that allows you to store your music so you can share it. My problem is that I always hate everything after I get through recording it and I'm always tweaking the songs for weeks and months. I need an experienced producer but alas here in Mayberry RFD there's no such person available.

When Flash was diagnosed with cancer the vet told me that with chemotherapy he might make it another 6 months. But after hearing about the negative experiences others have had with their pets going that route, I chose to use CBD oil on his food every day instead. He made it another year and a half with no pain. The last month however he fell apart quickly. Sorry to hear about what you and Guapo are going through. It's a brutal experience for all of us.

I don't consider myself to be an emotional person but losing a pet is rough. Dogs especially. They become part of your life for so many years its no different than losing a family member. I lost my dog Sissy earlier this month. She lived a good life but it still hurts to lose them. I'll usually drink a beer and think about all the good memories allowing myself deal with it.

Also the song The Little Girl by John Michael Montgomery has been known to bring a tear or two to my eye.

ESPN a couple of years ago had a feature story about a 10 year old with cancer and he formed a friendship with Carson Wentz. His nickname was the Dutch Destroyer because he was a huge kid for his age. They had those rubber wrist bands with Dutch Destroyer on it a Carson Wentz wore his every game. Tears weren't flowing but if I blinked very hard they would have been.

I've always been pretty good not getting emotionally attached to pets. I've had dogs I liked and hated to lose them. But its different with Guapo. He came into my life 4 years ago. He was born in our home to two full blooded chihuahuas. I gave him to my son who was 16 at the time. We still have his sibling Benny. My son left home after he graduated and Guapo became his mother's (my ex) dog. Then she got a new boyfriend 4 years ago and they moved to a place where they couldn't keep Guapo. My son asked me if I could take him because they were going to take him to the pound. I said sure. At the time I thought it would be temporary.

When I first got Guapo he was so skittish and practically afraid of his own shadow. He wouldn't let anyone pet him. But he took to me right away. The very first morning he hopped on my recliner foot rest while I was having my morning coffee and sat between my legs. To this day that is his favorite spot. Over the first few months he started becoming calmer and allowed us to pet him. He's been my shadow the whole time. Follows me everywhere around the house. Waits outside the bathroom door for me. My wife says he acts nervous when I'm not home. Then when I come home and sit on the recliner he would sprint and jump on my lap excited to see me.

I was told me ex had a boyfriend who was mean to Guapo. Yelled at him all the time. Smacked him rubbed his nose in it if he had an accident. Guapo became fearful. Any vet will tell you that method never works. It only makes the dog afraid. My heart melted when I heard what he went through and I just wanted to make his final years happy years. I spoiled him every day. And it was worth it. I know he doesn't have much time. But I also know he was very happy the last 4 years.

Now I'm just focusing on making him comfortable as possible. He doesn't seem to be in any pain. But he's so weak. This morning when I took him outside to potty he stumbled and almost fell. Its tough watching him deteriorate like that. He's a tough little guy. The vet thought he would be gone weeks ago. I don't know if I can put him down. I bought a little pet casket for him. If there is such a thing as pets having a spirit I'd rather he pass here at home and have his spirit stay here than at a cold vet's office.

Sure is tough losing one of our little guys. I know how much he was your buddy.
