So sitting here reading some articles such as Antonio Gates may not return to the Chargers.

So what if the Rams signed Gates. Traded Cookie to the chargers or whoever for a late draft pick like 5-7th.

And spend that pick on a TE, or WR, or whatever draft need.

(I say TE because the rookie in this scenario would backup Lance Kendricks, since Cory Harkey is more of a FB).

It saves Cap space, gives us an extra pick that we don't have, and it gives us a decent improvement to go along with a new young QB hopefully. Lol

I'd love to have gates on board as a TE coach...I don't know if he has much football left in him though. Mad respect for the guy but he's getting pretty up there.

What are you going to do with Gates? If you have him do you need another roster spot filled with a TE? How much improvement in that position would those moves bring? I get that Cook as well everyone else who is supposed to be catching balls for a living on the Rams didn't really live up to expectations and there is room for improvement by all of them but why would SD want Cook? If I'm them I would be concentrating on keeping Green and getting a young player not a high dollar retread who has a history of drops.

I love the idea of trading Cookie... Wonder what the cap hit difference would be in trading him vice cutting him outright.

Trade him to Cleveland. They have a keen eye for football players!:ROFLMAO:

The Rams free up $5.7M if they cut Cook according to Over The Cap. Would I cut him and use that money to resign Barnes and a D FA....or use it toward adding a FA WR or TE? In a heart beat.

My decision on Cook would already be made, that is my point. Long says he is willing to redo his deal....is he really and to what degree? Who knows....would have to figure that out. Scaffold Cap number is $3M, so, I would just assume keep him if the money is there.

Depends how you think about a players value in relationship to their pay. Neither may go, both may go. To me, just me, Saffold holds more value at his cap number than Cook does at his.

Is anyone in here like me? I'm am tired & SCARED of free agents....I'm all for building in the draft....

I'm good on Gates, my dream scenario for TE is trading or cutting Cook and pursuing Gary Barnidge, this guy is an animal!

A 35 year old tight end who's not only declining in production but missing time each of the past 6 season. What could possibly go wrong with that free agent signing.
