I’ll bet anyone that Evans gets first crack at OG if we don’t sign anyone.
I bet you are right, but I think he is more like Noteboom. Better at Tackle than Guard. He looked pretty good covering for Hav during the COVID games. But jeez he looked like shit on the pre-season flailing away at Guard. I think Shelton might be the better bet.

Huge. We got the equivalent of a very high second round pick (Corbett was the 33rd pick in his draft.) for a fifth. If that doesn't convince the casual fans of the NFL (none here; y'all are as knowledgeable as I've seen) that Les Snead is an absolute godsend and that he's just as good a GM as McVay is a coach, then there's no helping them.

Les has made some great moves... and his strategy has worked. No need to change it at all

Evans has worked better at RT and Jackson was solid at LT... i think RG is Shelton's job to lose.

Those guys could be better but they’ve all had limited snaps. My comment is based on McVays history so far. He likes giving veterans more than enough chances to win a starting job. It took a while for Gaines, Jones, Akers etc to get a chance at securing their positions. Not that I think he’s better, but I believe Evans gets once last crack due to this philosophy.

I kind of agree with both of you. It has been McVay's M.O. to start a preferred draft pick over others, and Evans was a 3'rd rd. pick, so having him in the line-up helps saves some face, ... Jamil Demby was a 6'th rd. pick in 2018 who also received favorable consideration for an overly long period, right up until very recently.

Evans has been a huge disappointment up until now, and becoming eligible for free agency next year isn't likely to help his situation unless he has a spectacular pre-season. If McVay sticks to not playing starters during the 3 pre-season games, we are likely to see some real IOL scrubs battling for those remaining back-up jobs.

Yeah, but it wasn't really a surprise ... was it? Rams didn't figure to be able to re-sign all three of their OL.

The Rams held onto two of their three unrestricted free agent OL. That's pretty good; and Corbett's contract (three years / $29.25M) could get them back a fourth round comp pick in 2023. A fifth at worst.

Not surprised at all. He was always going to be too expensive for his level of play.

Thanks for your time in horns.

Wow. Nice for us from a draft compensation perspective.
I would guess that this Austin Corbett deal will produce a 5th round compensatory awarded selection for Snead in the 2023 draft along with the Chargers deal for Sebastian Joseph-Day deal would make two 5th rd'ers thus far. If the Rams lose Von Miller that would be 3 possible 5th rd'ers.

I still think that UFA corner Darious Williams will get a bigger deal than the two above...just might end up a 4th rder. There is also OLB Og Okoronkwo who might surprise us & end up getting a 7th rd'er if DC Morris does not get an HC job next season which would be a 3rd rd'er in 2023 & 2024.

Corbin was a versatile and healthy player over the years.

My guess the Shelton deal is an indicator the Rams like him to fight for a starting spot.

Forget RFA we should sign Shelton to a long term deal on a smaller contract. We have all seen that he is legit

Not sure on that, Shelton might be more valuable as a reserve unless they have a plan for a backup Center because currently there is not anyone on the roster and no I don't count Jeremiah Kolone as depth, I believe the Rams could draft a Guard with their first pick in the 3rd round and I'm hoping Georgia's Mauler Jamaree Salyer is still available when the Ram pick at the end of the 3rd round.

Does anyone find it odd that Corbett got 2 million per year more than Brian Allen?
Especially in light of the fact that Center is a more preferred position than OG.
Thots?

Certain Teams will pay more for talent, my feeling is that Corbett is very good in pass protection plus very durable, add that he's now a Super Bowl winner and understands what it takes, is the reason he was paid more. Allen has had more injuries, Corbett not a one combined with a larger body of work.

Shelton's an ideal 6th guy for the interior spots. Right now.. I'd think they'd put him at a guard spot and kick Edwards out to tackle if Noteboom went down.. unless Alaric Jackson takes another developmental step. Ideally.. that's what happens.. that Jackson is ready to be the swing tackle this year.
I want a real prospect that can play guard or tackle in this year's draft. Fingers crossed. And, maybe Chandler Brewer is back in the mix. He played in 19.. sat out 20 because of COVID.. and was on PS last year. Maybe that was just a red shirt and he's ready to do something this season. He's physically very comparable to Edwards.

Brewer looked better in 2019 then 2021, maybe he year off made him a tad rusty, Brewer needs to step up this year to be in the mix IMHO.

I would like to see the Rams draft a Guard & Tackle for example hopefully Jamaree Salyer in the third round courtesy of @Riverumbbq and maybe Offensive Tackle Matt Waletzko North Dakota State with the 174th pick, IMO, would go along way to replenishing the Offensive Line with the hope that Salyer is the starter at RG from day one.

I don't have a favorite draft prospect, but I hope that they draft a guy who can project as a starting guard. CB and OL would be my top two picks.
