Did McVay say we might sign a WR for depth and as insurance???

If we do sign another WR for insurance... Fred Brown played pretty well for us this preseason.... McRoberts was around for a bit last year.... Is Nelson Spruce still on the Chargers practice squad...

but honestly...I don't think we need to bring another one in.... JoJo Natson could play the slot WR if he had to....and Mike Thomas and Pharoe cooper will be back in a couple of weeks

I liked Steven Mitchell... but sounded like he is talking about someone with experience.

Maybe an ex-Redskin? Can't think of who an experienced ex-Ram WR under McVay would be.

Does Jeremy Maclin have anything left in the tank? Is Malcolm Mitchell healthy?

Kupps injury is still up in the air yes mcl sprain but they mention Rogers mcl sprain and of course he is playing a different position but also is older by what a good 12 years? 11? In any event they mention that it's just a matter of healing so everyone is different Kupp could be out 6 weeks or he may be out 1-2 weeks so fingers crossed. I'm ik with Reynolds and wouldn't mind seeing hodge in the slot with those hands but of course no one will route run like cooper. Hopefully we get him back soon and I want him healthy for saints and Chiefs in a perfect world.

No way Kupp is out 6 weeks.

McVay said Kupp would “probably” miss this week’s 49er game. If there’s a small chance he’ll play in 6 days, no way he’ll miss 6 weeks.

Sounds like the plan is to keep him out for the Niners, then probably play vs. Pack, with Saints at the latest.

I'm not as forgiving. Are teams deciding to hurt our star WR's because they can't stop them? I don't buy that Stewart was trying to "make a football play." You have to intentionally reach for a collar like Stewart did, from behind, despite all the warning/training against performing such a blatant foul.

The same was true about the executed hit on Brandin Cooks last week, Cooks didn't even see what was coming, and so the defender didn't care about head to head contact. Everyone knew that Cooks was concussed last year, keeping him out of a Super Bowl, and felt like a hit job to me.

That has been my feeling as well since the hit on Brandin. During GSÖT years the defensive gameplan for some opponents seemed to be to take out (i.e., kill!) Kurt Warner, especially when he was running Mad Mike's empty backfield offensive set formations. And the damn refs hardly ever threw flags for obvious roughing the passer violations. Even Kurt, who hardly complained, would raise his voice to the officials after the most egregious violations. It was the most effective way to slow down our fast & furious GSOT offensive juggernaut.

Our current OL is pretty stout at protecting our Golden Boy, and Jared is much more nimble than Kurt ever was at evading pass rushing defenders. Plus, he is simply tough at absorbing punishment. So the current defensive gameplan for certain current defenders appears to be to target our hyper active receivers to slow the McVay war machine. Expect more questionable play from the '9ers this coming weekend, especially now that Earl Thomas is out.

Not sure why they let him back in the game , that injury looked ugly.

I'm fine with him sitting for a few weeks let's see if Reynolds can step up !

Probably because Cooper was insisting he was fine so our players' coach gave him a test series. When they saw his limited movement they pulled him right back out.

I think that would be wise. Reynolds has some speed (short passes, jet sweeps) but not good receiving skills.

His last year at Texas A&M he led the SEC in receiving, so I think he has some receiving skills.

This was my point last week when I stated that I want to see more WR's involved if not just to reduce the exposure that our top 3 are getting week in and week out in regards to punishment. Let Natson run a jet sweep. Lets get Everett/Higbee involved in the underneath passing game, taking some heat off of Kupp. Get Hodge and Reynolds more snaps. Then a better chance they are at 100% for playoffs and alos develop more depth for the games hat will matter in Jan/Feb

Some people laugh about Nelson Spruce, but I thought he was a decent slot player and actually could catch (in the limited action I remember) and he's practically unemployed. I'm sure we could get him as a temp replacement. But likely not going to happen. I've seen weirder stuff happen in the NFL

Thought of Spruce when I heard McVay mention someone they knew from before. Spruce was kind of Kupp-lite (or might have been if he had stayed healthy for long enough)

I think when McVay talks about someone they are familiar with, I don't think he is talking about the previous coaching staff, or us as fans. I think he is talking about someone he and his guys know.

Normal Disclaimer: I could be way off here. LOL

No I said that at the end of my statement ......a meniscus is just about how it heals. That's why I said although different positions look at Rodgers he is playing with it but they said during the game meniscus is just about it healing and at what speed. I also said hopefully with Kupp his rate of speed will be much faster as he is 11-12 years younger that mr. Rodgers
