The man was a fourth round draft pick which usually equates to being a backup.
It seems some posters want to dog him out for not playing like a first round draft pick.
He was forced into a starting role by the LA Rams due to their lack of bringing in a starter level player, and yet was an NFC Defensive Player of the Week, holds two Rams rookie records and a NFL rookie record. He also had a game-winning pick 6.
In our playoffs this year, he was the interception and deflection leader in the NFL.
Cornerbacks aren't generally known to be good tacklers and that's not even really their main job.
I would spend a fourth rounder on that kind of production all day long especially with a cheap rookie contract.
Those are all good points:

And really if the Rams wanted to retain him I would be here nor there about it. But c'mon that bitch-ass soccer flop in the endzone at the end of the Bears game, I kinda looked at him a little differently, but really Landman should have been covering Cole Kmet, but Landman would had been 15 yards in front of him with his lack of speed. :laugh2:

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF) data reported during the 2026 offseason, Cobie Durant was credited with allowing three touchdowns in the 2025–2026 NFL playoffs. Which was tied for first place.

I'm glad the rams didn't bring him back, he wasn't good on the outside.

Actually, even Landman could have been back there with him. Cobie and Kmet were slow dancing back there so long, I’m pretty sure they were making out like an ‘80’s high school dance.

I’m curious if Kmet’s obvious shove would have sent Landman out to the midfield logo like it did Cobie.

If Landman would have been able to stay with Kmets, he would have just shoved Kmets out of the endzone and intercept the ball and probably get called for a PI. :laugh2:

Well, like I pointed out, and quite a lot of us pointed out before last season. We needed a couple of real starter quality corners or at least one.
Nobody drafts somebody in the fourth round and expects them to turn into a starter. I mean sometimes they do but more often than not, they do not. He had depth level talent, and that's where he should have been playing in my opinion.
Instead he was put out there against elite starting wide receivers.
Our corners played about what I expected them to. Like second stringers. I can't blame him or Darius Williams or Forbes or McCreary for the lack of the front office and coaching lack of vision.

I find your post interesting and Durant isn't the only DB that does this...... But why do some DB's line up 10 yards off a WR when the field is only 30 yards long????? I never played defense (except for pop warner) but one would think if you're playing on a short field a DB would play a little tighter.
You beat me to the punch.

And again your point is well taken:

And the reality is a WR always has the advantage no matter who the DB.

The Secondary and D did play well the first 10-11 games, there was a stretch the defense only allowed field goals in nine consecutive quarters at one point.... Damn impressive if you consider the personnel.

Another poster brought there could have been some unreported injuries on the defensive side and certainly Lake getting injured didn't help matters much.

Yeah you would think they would play a little more press coverage with the field so short. No telling if that's what Shula wanted him to do or that's where the Defensive Captain with the Green Dot told him to line up.
