I also have a high opinion of Staley. But I do think there's a good chance McDaniels is ready for this. He's a real gifted coach too, Belicheat assistants have mostly struck out but that run ends with this guy I suspect.
This is why I think Mack was a good move on paper. He is going to need to put up a top defense if he wants to matter in that division now.
I'm interested to see how McDaniels handles this, IMO, he does not handle thing well when things go south a bit, plus I will always hold a grudge against him because of being OC in St. Louis although I realize he did not have many weapons.
Quite Frankly in the NFL I would always hire an Offensive Coach as Head Coach because it's easier to hire a Defensive Coordinator then Offensive Coordinator. In fact, I can only think of one seasoned OC in the NFL that is not being interviewed for HC and that's Greg Roman of Baltimore, whereas, there are plenty of seasoned DC's around.
Staley is different because he's a former QB that coaches defense, now, the Chargers need to get their defense right and the Mack trade was an excellent move, plus with the Chargers, I'm not the biggest fan of Staley OC's hire in Joe Lombardi, but they have too many weapons and one of the best young QB's in football so it's hard to screw up.
Overall, McDaniels with Las Vegas does not scare me I believe Staley has the goods and the talent to win that division, the Chiefs are always going to be tough, but their defense seems always vulnerable. Overall, I also concur about Denver with Hackett and if they don't do well with Wilson, might Asshole Face be in play next year as Hackett could be one & done? Unlikely as I know Payton lives in Dallas and the Cowboys has always been his dream job, but again, I don't expect much from Hackett but I was wrong about Zac Taylor, which makes the first time I was wrong about a Head Coach.
