ITS GAME DAY!

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember our core principles; we always show respect for our team and each other.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and others.

This is the core rule of the GDT. Moderators are tasked to issue thread bans, at a minimum, to maintain this standard.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad.

Go Rams!

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Los Angeles Rams Prediction and Preview
By Matt Josephs, 9/21/18, 2:50 PM EDT

The Rams and Chargers face off Sunday for the first time since both teams moved back to Los Angeles, and some may even dub it a proverbial Super Bowl preview if both teams play up to their potential. But at this point, with the teams in opposite conferences and sharing the city for only two seasons, this is not exactly a rivalry yet.

L.A.'s NFC team is 2-0 after picking up wins over the Raiders and Cardinals in relatively easy fashion. The Rams have done it in balanced fashion with a solid passing attack and a running game led by Todd Gurley. Jared Goff has completed almost 65 percent of his passes and has three touchdowns to just one interception. The question is if the great numbers this team has put up are because of the weak opponents or if the Rams are for real. Head coach Sean McVay has taken the league by storm, while Wade Phillips leads the veteran-laden defense. McVay has done wonders with Goff so far as his numbers are greatly improved.

The Chargers are 1-1 this season and are coming off a 31-20 road win at Buffalo last week. In that game, they started fast and built a big lead before letting the Bills get a little momentum. In the end, they did what they had to against the bad team and moved on from a tough loss in Week 1. Philip Rivers is putting up his usual fantastic numbers, but the defense has struggled at times. The Chargers have three of their next four at home after this one, so if they can pick up the win, they'll gather some momentum.

The Rams lead this series 6-5 with the Chargers taking the last matchup at home 27-24 in 2014. Rivers threw for 291 yards and a touchdown in that win.

Rams at Chargers
Kickoff: Sunday, Sept. 23 at 4:05 p.m. ET

TV: CBS

Spread: Rams -7

Three Things to Watch
1. Battle of the running backs

Todd Gurley is running well so far this year and with a heavier wallet. He has 220 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns. The back is seeing a solid amount of work and will be a factor against a Chargers team allowing under 100 yards per game on the ground. Joey Bosa being out will soften things up front, but Melvin Ingram is still a handful for offensive lines. Corey Liuget would be playing if he wasn't suspended and still has two games left to sit out. Melvin Gordon has 39 touches for the Chargers and leads the team in receptions and targets a year after setting a career-high with 58 catches. The guy has been a very good option out of the backfield and mixes well with Austin Ekeler, who is averaging 7.3 yards per carry. Neither the Raiders or Cardinals were able to stress the Rams defense. Arizona has David Johnson, but the Cardinals got away from him too early and the game got out of hand.

2. Intangibles

The Rams are in the middle of a three-game home stand with the Vikings coming up next on Thursday in Week 4. I guess there's a small chance that focus is a bit of an issue in this one as the Minnesota contest could potentially have huge playoff implications. As I said, in a lot of other cities, there would be more talk of these two teams becoming rivals and it being a battle for Los Angeles. I just don't think that's the case in L.A. though. It's the Chargers second straight road game, but they don't have to go far so that's not really going to be a factor. They host the 49ers next so there's no lookahead factor, either.

3. Who is the Chargers' lethal weapon?

It bears mentioning once again that Melvin Gordon has the most receptions for the Chargers. He's got one more then Keenan Allen who is the squad's No. 1 receiver. Allen figures to see a lot of Aqib Talib who is very familiar with him from his time with the Broncos. The question is who will step up opposite him? Mike Williams and Tyrell Williams are both really inconsistent, while Antonio Gates has not done much in his return to the team. Gates has been targeted four times with just two catches for 16 yards. The Williams' will see a healthy dose of Marcus Peters, which is an edge to the Rams. Peters also saw plenty of the Chargers from his time with the Chiefs.

Final Analysis

The Rams have been playing great football, but are going to face their best test of the season. As usually is the case with the Chargers, this will be a close game with Philip Rivers having a shot to tie or take the lead late. Rivers holds the edge on Jared Goff although the Rams signal caller has better weapons. The only way the Chargers win this game is if they can run the ball consistently and keep the ball away from the Rams. I don't think that happens and the Rams move to 3-0.

Prediction: Rams 27, Chargers 13

This feels like a momentum game for us... heading into a short week.

Can’t look past this one.

3-0 looks a lot better than 2-1 heading into that Vikings match-up.

I had dreams about Mcvay and his developing culture last night.

"It's about daily improvement"

"Setting the standard"

"Communication is going to be key"

I could go on. . . .

Needless to say I cannot wait to see this team play!

(And we get two games this week)

This isn't the Raiders or the Cardinals. A step up in class for our Rams today.

When we get the lead in this game, never look back. No letting up and no mercy on the scoreboard. Show the rest of the NFL world the Rams are built to dominate any team on their schedule.

True that! Lets hope the Rams are looking at the Chargers today and not looking ahead to the Vikes.

Great challenge for our team these next two, this is the stuff champs are built from.

If KC D can show up for a quarter at home versus the Whiners and Schotty's O continues to be Shotty's O at home for Seattle the Rams have a good chance to have a nice early season divisional lead.
Suck it NFC West.

Headed to the brother in laws house today.
The wife is from San Diego, so of course, a family of Charger fans.
One cousin was texting me all preseason to put a Chargers bet in for them to win the AFC West and one to win the Super Bowl.
The texts stopped (bets were placed) after their week one loss to KC.
The brother in law is a more realistic Charger fan. He thinks every game will be decided by a Chargers missed FG.
Haha.

I want to see a hard hitting, high flying, reckless, attacking defense that makes the league sit back and say...."Oh, shit."

A week from now, the Rams will be 4-0. Today is the day to dismantle the Chargers. Not disrespecting them because they are good, but their problem is that the Rams are great. The Rams will get to an early lead and force Rivers to throw the ball more than he likes, and our Dline will come at him straight up the gut...either sacking him/QB hurries, thrown into man to man coverage.

Goff to Gurley
Goff to Cooks
Goff to Woods and Kupp.
Rinse & Repeat.

Rams vs. Chargers: 4 key matchups to watch in Week 3
By: Cameron DaSilva

Rams CBs vs. Chargers WRs
The Chargers have a solid group of receivers, which will give the Rams their first real challenge of the season. Although they move around the formation from play to play, expect Marcus Peters to draw Mike Williams on the left side, Aqib Talib and Tyrell Williams on the strong side and Keenan Allen being covered by Nickell Robey-Coleman in the slot.

That could change based on how the Rams and Chargers play things, but expect to see plenty of these matchups on Sunday. Talib has to be physical with Mike Williams on the outside to disrupt his timing with Philip Rivers, while Peters has more of a speed threat on the other side.

Rob Havenstein vs. Melvin Ingram
Ingram is the focal point of the Chargers’ pass rush with Joey Bosa sidelined. He plays both sides of the line, but more often than not, he lines up across from the right tackle. As a premier pass rusher, he’ll be going up against the Rams’ best offensive lineman through two games. Ingram will look to use his speed around the edge to beat Havenstein, but that won’t be easy.

With Ingram being the Chargers’ best edge defender, Havenstein has a tall task on his hands. Ingram is a player who can go off for three sacks in a game, which would be bad news for Jared Goff and the offense.

Goff has been kept relatively clean in the pocket thus far, and it’s why he’s played well in the first two games.

Cory Littleton vs. Melvin Gordon
Melvin Gordon carved up the Bills last week, but not just on the ground. He caught six passes for 38 yards and two touchdowns, adding a rushing touchdown on nine carries. In total, he had just 66 total yards, but those three touchdowns loomed large. The week before, he was far more impressive, catching nine passes for 102 yards.

Littleton has to contain Gordon both in the running game and when Rivers targets him through the air. He and the rest of the Rams did a great job covering David Johnson a week ago, but now they’ll have to turn their attention to Gordon and even Austin Ekeler.

Aaron Donald vs. Dan Feeney
The Chargers’ offensive line has been one of the worst in the NFL this season, so there are a bunch of favorable matchups. Ndamukong Suh versus Mike Pouncey, Samson Ebukam versus Sam Tevi, Michael Brockers versus Michael Schofield. The list goes on, but Donald against Feeney might be the most lopsided matchup of them all.

Donald should nab his first sack of the season on Sunday with the shakiness that is the Chargers’ offensive line, so don’t be surprised to see him get to Rivers once or twice. Los Angeles will almost certainly double team Donald on the interior, but that’s tough to do with Suh, Brockers and Ebukam all on the defensive front.

Still, Donald will win this matchup with ease and prove to be his dominant self once again.

Coming up to 1am in Japan.
The time difference is brutal...
Will be logging on in the morning looking forward to reading about our victory.
Have a feeling Gurley put big yards on the board.
