I love that we're going with a youth movement on the OL. That said I am a little concerned with the depth. But if things work out (i.e. we see a continued blessing of health with the unit), this is going to pay off down the road.
I think Groy is just an example of a solid vet that could be added as competition to make the 53 man roster. It wouldn't hurt to bring a vet in to compete with all of the rookies for OC/OG depth. I also believe Kromer is helping to identify OL that are flexible. Evans and Edwards able to play any of the non-center OL positions? Perhaps Noteboom sticks as LG in 2020 and Evans/Edwards is able to pick up LT?

I suspect Edwards is the better LT prospect. He really fell due to that shoulder injury. If he gets healthy and gets his strength up, he might challenge Noteboom for the opening in 2020. But Noteboom has the head start.

If he gets offered what the article suggests by the Bills (2 years, $5 million - $1.5 million signing bonus) he should be a Bill. I doubt they offer that. The Rams are likely in the market for league vet minimum (plus $50k signing bonus) so that they get the reduced cap hit. I haven't looked at the Bills' cap situation, but I doubt they offer what the article suggests.

OT's who I will keep an eye on in TC & preseason:

UDFA Brandon Hitner 6-6/305 -Villanova ....should not be overlooked here. Hitner has an abundance of football intelligence. He was mostly used @ RT & RG but has shown an unusual ability to snap & warp speed to totally neutralize the interior LB'ers. So versatile he can play four of the OL posts with ease. Keep & eye on him he was built for Kromer's ZBS. Center may be where he makes headway up the depth chart on our master roster. Hitner always wins his block when it's made on the move! He suffered an MCL tear late last season so he flew under the radar.

Snead has done his homework here on the RT prospects too. Four new rookies who were RT's in college. David Edwards/ Bobby Evans/ Brandon Hitner/ Chandler Brewer was added to go with Rob Havenstien & Darrell Williams. Edwards fits the prototype NFL RT & is the purest RT of the four. He is a smaller version close clone to Havenstein. Brewer's cancer story is unreal & continuing to play while undergoing treatment. Evans had a usual high blocking rating @ RT. The fact he can swing both ways @ OT & OG is very rare. Snead found a gold nugget Swing OT reserve for Kromer.

With all these RT candidates on board last years draft pick Jamil Demby can put on his effort & time concentrate fully to winning a starting position @ either RG or LG in TC.

All of the RTs makes me wonder if they are preparing for the possibility of Rob Havenstein hitting free agency in three years.

Call it a hunch, but I'm hitching my wagon to Hrynkiewicz as my undrafted free agent to watch, as well as Kendall Blanton (TE). He apparently models his game after Jason Kelce, and he put on a clinic at his Pro Day - so much that the Giants invited him to their own Pro Day. Now that might not mean much, but it's still worth noting.

And it helps that his name is awesome.
If you’re going to hitch your wagon to him the least you can do is tell us how to pronounce his last name.:effemine:

Evans and Edwards best fast track their development. One injury early, and the Rams offense will struggle, unless those two progress by leaps and bounds.

That’s why I preferred a plug and play type. If he wins a starting spot then Allen or Blythe make good backups. If the draftee doesn’t start but is capable then they are quality insurance in case of an injury. I liken it to when Brockers was injured in the playoffs against Atlanta. It drastically changed the success of the Rams defense, or when Blythe and Sullivan were abused by the Patriots DLine.

We can't forget Demby. He might be further along than expected. No matter what, I trust Aaron Kromer. He's consistently gotten the most out of what we gave him. He got guys who looked like busts here and elsewhere playing at a quality level.

Although Blythe will be the backup Center, I could see the Rams signing Ryan Groy, who would provide insurance for Center & Guard and pushing Edwards to the practice squad. A little concerned keeping Noteboom healthy as he would move to LT, if something happened to Whitworth, but I expect Noteboom & Brian Allen to be ready to answer the call this season and maybe Allen might be an upgrade over Sully in the running game.

We already have a Groy, and his name is Blythe. This doesn't mean I wouldn't want to bring him into camp, I would, he'd be great insurance as a back-up for injury and the potential loss of Blythe who becomes a free agent following the upcoming season. If he can beat out Aaron Neary, he gets the keys to the building, and Edwards stays on the roster of 53. Groy is only two years older than Blythe, and should be pretty inexpensive. Kromer is likely to be able to still mould Groy into the swing interior lineman that he wants, and can step right in at a moments notice and compete well, something he's already been doing anyway. jmo.

If Groy is willing to sign for league veteran minimum (plus a small signing bonus - I think $50k, but whatever it is) he would only count against the cap like a player with two years experience. The Rams can afford that. I expect the Rams to sign several players like that, and Groy would possibly fill a role. Same for a DL, maybe a WR or a CB. I like the TEs they've signed, so probably not there.

We may be "set" but are we? 2 new starters 2 rookie backups....
That is the question of the year for Rams fans.

We can say we are "set" all day long but until they prove it in a game-time situation consistently, we are not "set".

I do have to give great credit to mcvey's realization of how important the offensive line unit is and Kromer's ability to properly coach these guys.

Also, Snead and our Scouts are finding some good players.

So far they've done great and are the main reason we've had the success that we've had.

We've had a top 5 line the last couple years. They've generally been regarded among the best. It ain't easy to maintain that year after year. The best way is always have in house options that you coach up and get them ready when their time comes. Some years they're better than others.

Always a possibility if you get caught in "Salary Cap Hell":help:.

Due to the ultra high-end contracts thrown @ Gurley/ Donald/ Cooks & really big pending contracts for Goff/ Dante Fowler/ Micheal Brockers/ Marcus Peters/ Greg Zuerlein :palm:Rams are going to hit some serious turbulence.

It’s odd how each year there seems to be an OL rated highly by the media yet they end up UDFAs or late round picks. Off the top of my head Denby last year, Benschwazel this year.

All, but Brockers. I love the guy, but he’s not going to get another contract here. Pretty sure he’ll be a FA signing somewhere and we’ll get a 4th for him in 2021.

Jesus you guys and Groy. Can't we let that ship set sail Captain? :D

Groy's name comes up to calm the nerves. As you stated there are concerns about the depth. I also like the youth movement and later round picks for the offensive line. Rams just didn't have the draft capital and immediate need for early pick offensive lineman. By the looks of it Groy's Ram's ship is near the end of the horizon. Rams could be having him as an option should the (knock on wood) offensive line have injuries.

When will posters except that Noteboom and Allen are ready to step in?

Camp & preseason sched this year is going to be a lot of fun for watching the pieces come into focus on the OL. I would love to see Demby make a move, but there's going to be a lot of competition and youth along with probably open season for the depth spots. Really looking forward to camp this year, just hope I can fit it in my schedule.

Or he could pull off a Suh move where he does not sign till very late in the offseason thus the Rams get zero credit for Compensation Selections. Suh did us no favors here.

We can't forget Demby.
There were a couple indicators of how much they wanted to keep Demby.
The Rams tried to stash him on the practice squad but Detroit nabbed him for theirs.

But the first injury we had that opened up a spot on our 53 we grabbed him for our 53.

That indicates to me that they did not want to lose him and his potential with development.
