Anyone have an opinion on these positions - doesn’t seem like we’ve addressed the Saffold and Sullivan departures with either FA or the draft?

Concerned as well. The one thing that slowed Goff and Gurley last year was penetration and pressure. And Whit's likely on his last season. On the other hand if Boom and Allen do pan out, it would be amazing to have a great young line going forward. Kromer's crosstraining philosophy seems to give us a big advantage too.

Noteboom is replacing Saffold, and Allen is replacing Sullivan. They had in house candidates.

Then they drafted Evans and Edwards to replace OL depth. Blythe will backup at center when needed.

Although Blythe will be the backup Center, I could see the Rams signing Ryan Groy, who would provide insurance for Center & Guard and pushing Edwards to the practice squad. A little concerned keeping Noteboom healthy as he would move to LT, if something happened to Whitworth, but I expect Noteboom & Brian Allen to be ready to answer the call this season and maybe Allen might be an upgrade over Sully in the running game.

We addressed those positions last year.

Offensive line looks set. You have the starters in Whitworth (LT), Noteboom (LG), Allen (C), Blythe (RG) and Havenstein (RT) as well as Jamil Demby (RT/OG), Evans (OT/OG) and Edwards (OT/OG). Aaron Neary (OC) could also make the roster or - like Den mentioned - we could sign someone like Ryan Groy.

I hope one of the rooks beats out Blythe for RG. He got over powered at times last year and not sure if I'll ever get over the turnstile he was in the SB.

Even though we have Notebroom, I think there's a significant worry that we'll sorely miss the beef and push in the middle that Saffold was able to give. Notebroom just won't be able to provide that inside. Allen may actually be able to provide some more athleticism than Sullivan at his age but we'll see about savy and line protections. I see us taking a step back on the line at least for this season.

I'm hoping it's not a huge step back but a step back for sure.

We may be "set" but are we? 2 new starters 2 rookie backups plus several udfas this is very concerning to me. Saffold is a massive hole at LG and Allen didn't beat out Sully who I felt was the weakest last year on the OL. Like I always say we go as far as the OL takes. To me the strength and health of the OL is the most important part of the teams success or demise. We know we have a world-class RB, QB, 3 WRs as far as the skill positions go we are overall #1 in the NFL in my opinion, but the SB exposed the Center and RG. Hopefully McVay he has some counters he xertcerta got a huge look at what other HCs perceive aa our weaknesses. This year there will be no surprises.

Noteboom and Allen both got time in at practices last year, and Noteboom acquitted himself quite well during the Niners game at left tackle. I understand that he's starting at left guard where Saffold dominated, but I think that he's going to do a fine job. Allen probably spent a lot of time in the weight room and learned a ton from Sullivan. He didn't beat Sully out because he was a rookie behind a battle-tested vet.

As for the question of having rookies as backups, we did that last year with Noteboom and Allen, so I believe that Evans and Edwards should learn a lot. And we still have Demby, who studied last year.

I'm not concerned about Blythe. He did a fantastic job in the regular season and postseason up to the Super Bowl, where the entire offense struggled.

And if there's one thing I've learned from watching sports, it's that there's always pleasant surprises. My belief is that we'll be pleasantly surprised by our offensive line.

Kromer has four center prospects. Allen is the top candidate to earn the starting post. Kromer has a good sized cadre of OG prospects available with includes 3 of the four centers. As to wins out in the 2 starting posts ....:thinking:

Vitas Hrynkiewicz 6-4/305 21/R

Guards
Darrell Williams 6-6/310 26-2 {RT}
Joe Noteboom 6-5/321 23/2 {LT/RT}

I love that we're going with a youth movement on the OL. That said I am a little concerned with the depth. But if things work out (i.e. we see a continued blessing of health with the unit), this is going to pay off down the road.

Rams kinda told us all along that they were confident in Noteboom and Allen. Can't wait to see the new lineman and the draftees.

I think the ideal scenario would be that one of the new kids pushes for a starting OG spot. That would enable Boom to take all the snaps at LT when Big Whit is rested through camp and the season, and be ready to step right in or even compete with the big dog.

Evans is consistent in his snaps through games and moves well, so he might challenge at LG since he has the tools to quickly get position in the ZBS.

Edwards is so damn big I have to think they use him as RT depth. He's very much like Havenstein was, just a massive human being who sometimes won't lose on a snap even when he loses positionally but needs to work footwork and technique. One thing's for sure: the dude is powerful as F, so would they want to try him inside? That's where the ZBS works against us I think, hard to see him excelling there on the inside he would be more of a power guard.

Need to look at the others, but I am intrigued by this group and can't wait to see how Kromes plays it.

Call it a hunch, but I'm hitching my wagon to Hrynkiewicz as my undrafted free agent to watch, as well as Kendall Blanton (TE). He apparently models his game after Jason Kelce, and he put on a clinic at his Pro Day - so much that the Giants invited him to their own Pro Day. Now that might not mean much, but it's still worth noting.

And it helps that his name is awesome.

So when he’s done with the Rams, is gonna open up a Hrynkaburger franchise?

Evans and Edwards best fast track their development. One injury early, and the Rams offense will struggle, unless those two progress by leaps and bounds.

That’s why I preferred a plug and play type. If he wins a starting spot then Allen or Blythe make good backups. If the draftee doesn’t start but is capable then they are quality insurance in case of an injury. I liken it to when Brockers was injured in the playoffs against Atlanta. It drastically changed the success of the Rams defense, or when Blythe and Sullivan were abused by the Patriots DLine.
