The first half showed how good this team can be. But like any young team it's difficult for them to sustain that level of play. That will come as they gain experience. Taking nothing away from the Colts who are a quality team, the first half is what I've always seen in this offense.
The weak point is Stafford's health. He's definitely a baller.
Why is Hoecht in coverage? They need a LB with Hampton's speed to play SAM not a 300 lb former DT. Morris would be better playing Lake at SAM if he's going to be expected to cover. Lake is 6'1" 200lbs with 4.5 speed and coverage skills. It makes no sense to play Hoecht in coverage. Durant doesn't have the agility and quickness to play SCB. Why isn't Morris playing Shelley who is a proven SCB?
Still way too much mis-communication in the secondary.
When this defense finally comes together it's going to be good, But they are still mixing and matching too much and it's causing a lot of miscommunication. I would like to see Lake and Shelly in the secondary from here on out.
CBs Kendrick, Witherspoon and Shelley with Lake and Yeast as their safeties. IMO that is their best combinations the scheme they are playing. I've been saying they should play Donald at edge opposite Young. Rotate Turner, Murchison and Brown inside. with Jones and Rozeboom at ILB.
The Rams play the Eagles, then AZ, and Steelers the next 3 weeks. IMO the Eagles are not an automatic loss. A lot depends on Stafford's health going into that game. Time to rest Stafford for the entire week with maybe one or two days of light practice. Let Rypien take the reps because he will need them if he has to play. That said I feel better about Rypien then I ever felt about Wolford. The Rams need better at #3QB than Rypien or Bennett. I'm not so sure how much the Rams can depend upon Bennett. Too much immature frat boy shit.
The best part of the game was how in the end the Colt fans had their hearts torn out.
Give them hope then steal it away.
