As enormous as the advantages of rest were, this game had value outside of all that. It allowed McVay to get a good look at his depth all over the team. That will benefit the team not only through the playoffs but also into the offseason as they rack and stack their roster areas that require the most improvement.
Looking at Mannion alone... He had a hard time getting through reads, seemed to process some decisions slowly, and suffered inaccuracy throughout the game. He wasn't helped by the drops, but after watching this one you can go down the list of subpar performances and have a good idea what McVay will be thinking.
I thought Mannion had a pretty strong game. I don’t look at stats, just as I didn’t last year when Goff has no help around him. With the pressure mannion faced and the drops, and lack of run game, he did well.
As for resting starters, im a huge fan of the move. You don’t work this hard to make the playoffs to lose a key player in a meaningless game. Forest for trees.
