Wish I had a better understanding of the 2021 NFL Salary Cap.

There have been reports that the Cap may decline due to lost revenue from the pandemic.

There are teams that budget salaries based on the projected cap which has not declined for years. It’s difficult to say what kind of cap shape the Rams will be in come the off-season.
Right now they are -16M under the 175M cap min.

Di they need to biunce it up.

They should have increased the TV revenue with extra games to make up the attendance issues.

Monday night double-headers should have been the norm this yr.

No we should draft a guy that can rush the passer. When our Dtackle has 2-3 guys looking at him every play, the other guys should feasting and they’re not. Donald’s the only one on our Dline that can win 1v1 on the line.

I wouldn't be surprised if Floyd chooses to stay on a team friendly contract.
For the same reason we know that Fowler wasn't really a difference maker, the rest of the NFL knows that too. Smart GMs recognize that he isn't a true pass rush threat, so I doubt his offers would be anything like what Fowler got.
I'm surprised that so many don't seem interested to keep him around. The guy busts his ass, he's powerful, and he sets a good edge. He's an ideal strong side rusher for this defense.

So I am with you on this. I'd be trying to find a common ground with him. If he wants more than he's worth, well, see you later. But I am sure the Rams are discussing this with his agent. (y)

And btw even if we keep Floyd we still need to draft linebackers. Plural. IMO. We need a rangy ILB (to pair with Kiser) and with Lewis' injury history if there's an OLB we like at any point in the 2021 draft take his ass.

Los Angeles Rams: Seller

This designation has nothing to do with where the Rams are on the field. After a rough 2019 campaign, Sean McVay has his team in a great position to compete this season at 5-2. But the Rams need to be careful how they manage the cap. As it stands, they are $19 million over the cap in 2021. Avoiding that will involve some hard decisions and shrewd moves.

Among those could mean trading away a player like Gerald Everett. The tight end caught a touchdown pass in the team's Monday Night Football win over the Chicago Bears, but he's in the final year of his rookie deal, and the Rams already have big money tied into the position. Tyler Higbee is scheduled to be the third-largest cap hit next season.

If Les Snead wanted to make a move on a half-year rental of a pass-rusher or defensive back, it would be understandable. But they aren't in a position to add any salary beyond this season.

Yeah, I'd like to see the Rams bring home Takk McKinley for that rental and see if he could benefit from the Donald effect. Let's see if we could get comparable production out of TM to Floyd. [Yeah, I suspect that the TM "injury" is one of those 'don't play so we can trade you' kind of injuries.]

Yeah, there seems to be a theme of people talking about how AD made Fowler and Mathews great here last season so that's why Floyd is doing good. While that certainly helps I also remember both those guys getting swallowed up or out right blowing themselves out of plays every down. They were liabilities outside of straight pass rushing which is where AD's presence helped them both.

Floyd has done exactly what Staley has asked of him and been a huge benefit to this defense. I'm not saying the Rams break the bank for the guy but, like you said, I would absolutely try and figure something out with him because our defense is better with him. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.

Floyd has been pretty damn good imo. Of course he benefits from AD. So did Fowler. I prefer Floyd, who isn't as quick but is a lot more physical. He's also by far our best OLB, or linebacker of any kind, at the moment. None of our other guys are even close to making the consistent impact Floyd has had.

Whether we can keep him is another matter. If we don't, it will be a big hole to fill.

The edge play seems to be a key to Staley's defense. Looking forward to seeing Floyd and Lewis in the second half at OLB with A'Shawn somewhere in the middle. We will have some physicality that hasn't been seen in quite a while with these guys lining up across the formation around AD and an already deep group of linemen.

If he got that jump swipe move figured out then it’s gonna be on like Donkey Kong. But it won’t be on like Donkey Kong for us because he’s gonna be Donkey Konging somewhere else for loads of Cash.
And it all remains to be seen because we weren't playing against the best offensive line Monday.

Smart GM's know that but there's only about 20 smart GM's in the NFL.

I'm not sure how it would be easier for Snead to pull this off now than when he had his buddy as GM with the Falcons...

Well, this year was his "prove it" contract at 10 mill, not sure what money would be considered to "not break the bank" if he finishes the year with 10+ sacks and 15-20 TFL, it will be hard to see a team not wanting to give him a nice bump

It's possible and if that happens fine because we'll probably get a really nice comp pick if he plays that well and goes elsewhere. But a lot of people seem to think we'll just plug and play anyone to replace him and have no drop off or be better off. I'm just saying he is a player I'd like to keep because he's more valuable than some people think. Whether the money works out appropriately I don't know will have to wait and see.

I’d rather keep John Johnson. Floyd has been playing well but he’s not the QB of the defense.

However OLB is a much thinner position for the Rams than Safety is.

why are rams down on JJ?.... is it just because what he is gonna cost?.....

I don’t know if the Rams are down on him. During the MNF telecast, they referenced how strongly the coaches feel about Johnson, especially Staley.

The only ones I’ve seen that are down on J.J. is some of the members here. Never heard anything like that from the coaches, reporters, or analysts.

It's tough to lose Floyd...but I think that Lewis and Polite could be studs. We would not only not be able to re-sign him, but we'd get at least a third round compensatory pick - if he gets the contract I think he'll get. In addition, there's a lot of good outside linebackers in this class.

I like Floyd, but not enough to re-sign him for 10 million+. Same with JJ3, as much as I hate to admit it.
