Was this during drills? Maybe he was thinking too much?

.
Yeah. During drills. Again, it's day one of training camp and they were in shells today. So, just a very early observation.

Re: Gaines
Are we watching the same guy #91? The videos I've seen he's been explosive and quick with good movement. One drill he explodes off the simulated snap, uses his hands and arms to slap away a simulated arm then has surprising bend around the coach. The guy behind him was big, almost fat looking, and slow as he basically stumbled through the drill.

Howdy fellow Ram Fans! Just got home from TC. Had a great time with the fellas. Wow! Was it packed with Ram Fans today. All the stand were full and standing room only around the field. I bet there were over 5,000, by far the biggest crowd at TC since they came from St Louis. Hot, mid 80's.

Had a great time with VRF and his Lady, Karate61 and his son. Now lets get to the meat of TC.

I got there at a little after 3, and found a seat in the south stands at 45 yd line. QB's were already out there taking snaps from Allen, Hrynkiewicz, Kolone and Chandler Brewer, throwing to coaches. Allen looks bigger, Hrnky is even bigger. I could see right away Bortles is a huge upgrade over Mannion. Goff, Bortles and Wolford all throw tight spirals,Brandon Allen looks a step behind. I liked what I saw from Wolford.

LB's were first to come out in front of my section. (no way I could move around, too crowded). LB coach had them stripping away ball. They did this several ways, punching from underneath, over the top and just slamming the ball any way they could. Lots of "Ohhhss and Ahhs" from the crowd. Next they practiced covering screen passes. Coaches played as RB's. Then some "tip ball" drills.

LB play that stood out: Mathews doesn't look like he's lost a step. He's as quick as any other LB, Littleton is buffed, Kiser was practicing intense and quick. Hager is a hitter, liked what I saw there. I wasn't impressed with Oko, he looks like he's holding back a little. Ketner Kupp, Coops's brother, is not going to make the team, noticeably slower.

Next group was the DL. They started with hitting the sleds after zigging around a dummy. Of course AD got the loudest "pop". Brockers was right there, He looks bigger and is very quick. F-Meyers looked good. Gaines a bit slower, but showed power. But DL who impressed me most? Joseph-Day. He's almost as big as Brockers and looks very quick. Next drill was speed rush around dummy, and lean into coach with ball. AD and J-D swatted ball out real quick. Boogie Roberts, who I liked going into TC, was a disappointment. He is slow, and could barely move the sled. It's only the first day though.

Because we were in the south stands, we didn't get to see 7 on 7 and 11 on 11. that was on the north field and the stands over there were packed. I could only see with binoculars and hard to make out player numbers. I did see Gurley out there. Don't think he's be out there if he was still hurt.

Of course I missed stuff because of shooting the breeze, but all in all it was a good practice, players were into it.

Players that stood out to me:

Blake Bortles. Not hard for the average fan to see this guy is a much better QB than Sean Mannion. I can't wait to see him in pre-season, not only to see how good he really is, but him being better than Mannion, we can see how good the new WR's in camp are.

Sebastian Joseph-Day. Almost a mirror image of Brockers. this guy is cut and quick. Only day one of practice, but he stood out today.

Mathews looked good.

About all I can give right now. I was disappointed I didn't get to see the 7 on 7 and 11 on 11. I'll be there tomorrow and expect a big crowd again. I'll make it a point to get to the OL and DB's.

Of course I've left stuff out, but when I remember I'll post here.

Had a great time and thx VFR and Karate

Thank you, I have been impatiently waiting all day lol. Your report is 100x more informative than the report from NFLN.

Football is back and now I have something to look forward to after work.

How does Kupp look ? Is he going full speed or playing safe for now ?

Check out Miles video. The WR’s look quick right now.Drills have speed up from the looks of it ??? I usually check out the O’line drills.
Along with Db’s & Dlineman though early. Just seems like the tempo in drills have more energy.

Ur welcome RamBall. Missed u there, was hoping to see you again.

Wished I could have given more on TC, but crowd was huge and moving around was out of the question.

OL and DB's will be my focus tomorrow. Not going to miss 7 on 7, 11 on 11 either.

Thanks to all providing reports. I am most curious about the LBs and interior OL. Regarding rookies I am curious about raw skills - speed, quickness, strength - and technique or lack of. Keep the info flowing.

First thing, here is a link to some photos I took today.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/W4jwE5fmde95goYJ6

The staff was checking for mobile downloads of your tickets. We were allowed to bring our own water bottles (stainless steel type) in with us. They just wanted to check the contents by the odor.

You'll see at the end of the album, there is a video from the local FOX station sports reporter, Pablo Alsina. At about the 40 second mark, listen for someone to start the "Who's house?" chant. That was me. I took some stills from the video also. You can see Karate61, myself and Bubbaramfan in them. We be famous! Made it on TV!

So as far as camp goes, what a great time to meet up with everyone and enjoy each others company. Let's just say that being the first day of camp, I wasn't too concerned at looking to closely at the players, instead I enjoyed socializing with @Karate61, @bubbaramfan and @8to12 . It was great seeing all of them again. I brought my girlfriend (soon to be fiance) and she enjoyed the camp atmosphere and meeting all my ROD bros too! Believe it or not, Bubba and I only had one beer each!

Bubba gave a great report with much more detail than I observed and karate61 also contributed some great observations. Here are my observations;

Todd Gurley is fine! I posted earlier about a pass he caught on an shallow out route and cut back up field, running full speed to the delight of the crowd who cheered him on. He continued to perform at the same level through out camp with the limited views I had of him.

Alex Bachman, #15 WR wont' make the team. Not with the current WR's we have.

Saw Cook catch a long TD from Goff down the left sideline. Had his defender beat by two steps. Couldn't see who was covering him. The crowd loved it!

I watched Demby working some drills with the second team. They had him at RG with Neary at C, Evans at RT,
Jeremiah Kolone LG and David Edwards LT. Not much to report as it was just walk through stuff. I will say this, I may have confused Demby with Neary last year. I'll keep a closer watch on him based on @den-the-coach interest in him.

John Kelly RB was looking good catching passes out of the backfield but we already knew that about him.

I couldn't see any TE's.

I didn't see any defenders based on our location. We kind of screwed the pooch with our seat and field selection. All the good stuff was happening on the north field and of course, we were at the south field.

Did you guys see the hat's we were wearing? Those are courtesy of @CGI_Ram . Thank you, man.

So I'll be back at camp tomorrow with camera in tow. I promise to pay closer attention and report back with a camp report worthy of ROD.

Thank you bubbaramfan, you've already answered one very important question for me, that being Brockers' size & quickness following his weight loss last season after the Suh acquisition. We'll need Brockers back in his 2017 form.
I'm not surprised at the comments on Gaines appearing slower, rookies often have a big adjustment with NFL speed. I'll save my worrying over him until later into camp. Nice to hear that both JFM & SJD looked good today also.

Thanks for the observations from all 3 of you, ... and continue having a great time of it.

Thanks to all for these reports. Much preferred over the pablum from most beat writers.

Been waiting a long time for this to start, trust me.
