What a Gentleman and just classic Head Football Coach. Lost some tough games to Coach Grant, but always respected his teams and how he conducted himself. Wow losing Otis Taylor yesterday and then Bud Grant, time awaits no one.

Worth taking some time to read his Bio. Amazing life.
Loved the cold weather, Bud Grant the consummate professional. NFL Films wanted to mic Grant in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs, he declined whereas the ultimate showman Hank Stram embraced the opportunity and the rest is NFL history.

For as much as I hated the Vikings, even as a young kid who may be irrational at times, I never disliked Grant like I did with Landry. And Landry wasn't a bad guy either, just hated that team even more.

The Man played in the NBA with George Mikan and the Minneapolis Lakers!

Played in the NFL with the Eagles. Played Defensive End and led them in sacks one year.

Then he switched to offense where he was second in the NFL in receptions and receiving yards ... far eclipsing former-Rams and future Hall of Famers Crazy Legs Hirsch and Tom Fears.

Played in the CFL and had 5 interceptions ... IN ONE GAME!!!

The irony of not disliking the Head Coaches because most of them were very similar with not showing emotion the likes of Grant, Landry, Noll & Knox for example. Respected all of them and unfortunately as you so elegantly communicated, the Rams always seem to come up short.

I always felt the Vikings had the greatest team hats over the years before hats were vogue. Grant always donning the Viking and never understood why Knox's hat didn't don the Ram logo instead of the team name.

I did hate the Vikings in the 70's, but for some reason I never hated Bud Grant. As for Tom Landry, I probably like him less, but then felt sorry for him when Jerry Jones did him dirty.

It's because Head Coaches conduced themselves back then with class, well, most of them. There still were characters back then in Norm Van Brocklin (always smoking on the sidelines) of the Falcons & of course George Allen of Washington.

Yeah, by comparison Madden acted like a nut and I couldn't stand him... Whenever they were on TV my mom used to say stuff like, "What's wrong with that guy?" (Madden)

And the Great Matriculator, Hank Stram
When Eric Dickerson broke-off the 1st of two long TD-runs in the Divisional Round game against Dallas in 1985, Hank Stram was doing the Color-commentary, with Joe Buck's dad Jack Buck doing the play-by-play.

As Dickerson broke free up-the-middle, with Randy White diving and missing a tackle attempt, Stram said:
'It's the Bye-Bye Blues'

Still an all-time favorite call for me.

FWIW I felt the same way about Madden & the Raiders. He appeared unkept & even tried when coaching against Stram to wear a suit & he looked so uncomfortable.

When my dad and I were watching the Rams-Raiders game on TV in 1977, my little sister comes in the room and notices the TV going from the game to a sideline shot and goes "Who's that fat guy?" We have laughed about her saying that for years. Me and my dad never liked the Raiders or Madden and only began liking him more after he got popular in the booth and on Miller lite commercials.

Bud Grant was a class coach all the way. They called him "stoneface" based on his sideline demeanor. You never saw him lose his cool... even less than Landry, another stoic sideline presence. RIP Bud.

Never liked him or gave a fuck about him. And he got to 95 which is an accomplishment. But RIP.
