I definitely echo the sentiments about the city museum. My wife and I got married there. The reason, because we had friends from all over and we wanted something unique for them. I have never even heard of a place like the City Museum yet alone be there. If you go to St. Louis, definitely go to the City Museum, there's nothing else like it anywhere

Eating on the Hill is nice, but there's a pub near there called O'Connell's that's really good too. If it's lunch time and you're near the Hill/Forest Park try Amighetti's on the Hill and get their special sandwich, you can thank me later

Wait a minute. You're a Bucs fan from Wisconsin? Isn't being a non Packer fan a violation of state law? You're supposed to have a block of cheese on your head on game day. Florida native?

I don't live in St.Louis but I was born there and have visited at different times throughout my life. Most recent was after my Afghan deployment at the end of 2010. We also stayed near the arch downtown, think at the marriott.

My recommended places:
Go to Pappy's BBQ atleast once (And go before 2 or 3 pm or else they start running out of items like ribs, etc.)
Ted Drews Frozen Custard makes an awesome Concrete (thick frozen milk shake - dont know if they're open right now but I think maybe?)
Union Station
The Spaghetti Factor is an old family favorite
Broadway Oyster Bar as many others suggested
I thought Big Daddys was pretty cool bar to go to

If you are a huge monster truck fan like I am,the Home of Bigfoot was a pretty cool place to check out.

Of course, enjoy the unique alcohol laws.. when i was there, as long as you weren't the driver you were allowed to have an open container in the car. Saw many people hopping into taxi's with open beers. Also, I think bars stay open later til 3 or 3:30 am legally.

Hope you enjoy your trip

if ya use uber ya might get our fellow resident @RamzFanz for a driver...he'll hook ya up on all the good places, and give you a ride there also !!!

I am almost postive the Arch museum re-opened for the 50th anniversary late in Oct. It was closed when I was there in Sept.

Cant go wrong down a Lacledes Landing..definitely will be hopping for a prime time game and on Friday nights.

and as @RamFan503 mentioned..ball park village is a great place to see chicks in chaps !!

The museum underneath the Arch is worth the couple of hours to meander through.

The Museum of Westward Expansion. It documents the growth and rise of the western portion of the nation and it's a cool couple of hours.

Do they still show the approx 20 minute movie detailing the original construction of the arch? I was more intrigued by that than the ride to the top when I first moved to town.

Do ya like beer? Of course ya do. Everyone likes beer. So, in addition to the great suggestions about places to go and things to see, here's my suggestions for STL beers and breweries worth visiting:

4 Hands is probably closest to the Arch - about seven or eight blocks south. They have a tap room (I haven't been), and their beers that I've had are excellent. Resurrected is a great IPA, and I live in IPA heaven.

Urban Chestnut makes marvelous Bavarian-style beers. If you like a good Hefeweizen witbier, UC is the place to go - and it's right close to Pappy's, which was recommended above. Try the Schnickelfritz or Pierre's Wit and the Zwickel lager.

Side Project is a bit of a haul - out in Maplewood - but everything they do is super unique. They're a rare-beer extension of...

Perennial Artisan Ales - down in the south part of the city, their Abraxis Imperial Stout and its barrel-aged variants are widely viewed as one of beerdom's White Whales. It's extremely hard to get and only releases once a year (I think) and is currently available by the glass at their tasting room.

Enjoy!

If you like Italian food the Hill is a great place to eat. The Broadway oyster bar has good food and live music. There are usually a few bands in town any given weekend at the smaller concert venues. They provide a much better show usually than the packed mega concerts. The brewery tour is a good way to kill some time on the afternoon, especially since it looks like Milwaukee and St Louis may be brothers in beer. At least for a brief moment before the lawyers skirt, I mean, comply, with monopoly laws. If you're coming with the wife, avoid the East side. If you're arriving without the wife, head for the East side. There are more casinos than ticks on a dog.
I like the way you think!

To the OP, if you check out the Hill, seriously I think Gioa's Italian roast beef and hot salami combination may be the best sandwich in St. Louis.

And if you make it to Saturday night, the lead singer of the !@$#(% )^&*% Urge is performing with his own band in Imperial, MO.

The Steve Ewing band doesn't play all Urge, but when last they played I thought they hit 6 urge songs really well. And I think about 4 Sting, 4 Marley, Seal, etc ... Maybe some think it eclectic, but it's never boring.

Keeping my eyes out for the Urge to play at the Pageant again, but alas that is not this week :)

You'll have to ask a native......I live in SWFL. I went to the museum on one of my many trips to STL.

Welcome to ROD. Feel free to participate in the What Bucs Fans are Saying thread - http://www.ramsondemand.com/threads/what-bucs-fans-are-saying.41971/ It's a regular thread we have and encourage the opposing team fans to come in and give insight on their team and how they see the game going.

We were in St Louis for the opener. I highly recommend the Broadway Oyster Bar. It can be tough to get into at times but as a restaurant owner I can tell you it is a place you don't want to miss. It is not fancy but everything about it is cool and the food is amazing. A rare find.

The hill is Italian restaurant central. You can't waive a stick without hitting one. We ate at Cunetto and it was very good.

Ballpark Village was a blast for partying. A bunch of us got fairly blotto there.

Someone mentioned Union Square but when we were there, it was a virtual ghost town. I can't imagine it will be better this time of year unless there are people doing some Christmas shopping. There is a Hard Rock there but a couple of us commented that it was the most empty Hard Rock we had ever seen.

We did the Arch and that was fairly cool. It seemed somewhat mandatory - kind of like going up in the Empire State building or walking on the Brooklyn Bridge if in NY City.

Everyone we met in the Lou was very nice and liked to joke back and forth with you. I think you'll have fun there. From what I witnessed you will get treated much better than if you go to Seattle as an opposing fan.

Stay away from White Castle :puke:

Had to throw that in there for the WC fans. :fighting:

I was the one who referred the BOB to you - so glad you liked it. I just had lunch there last week. Still amazing.

But I talk to you people everyday.

I'm just still wondering how a Bucs fan survives in the land of the cheese.

You're thinking of a pirate. They used swords.
We're actually talking about Buccaneers. They're similar to a pirate, only lighter in the loafers. Much lighter.

I was very impressed and thank you. I have been to a great many restaurants in various cities and states including Puck's, Emeril's, Ruth Chris, and many other top rated places, and rarely does one really make an impression on me. The three I listed were IMO very over rated but still very good. But even taking price aside (BOB was quite reasonable) the atmosphere, service, and quality of food and drinks made that one a place I would definitely seek out if I was anywhere near it again. That is a real gem you guys have there. The restaurant business is very difficult. I hope the LOU keeps supporting it so I can come back when I come to town for another game.

Absolutely. It's one of the best 'hole in the wall' places you can find. They have a fantastic beer / drink selection too. Last week, 3 of the brewers for Modern Brewing (a new STL craft brewery) were in there to try and get their beers on tap. They make some kick ass beers. I've never had a bad meal there and service is always fantastic.

It'll still be there. Almost everyone I know either goes there regularly or hits it when the opportunity presents itself. I'm glad it's come up again, I've been hitting a bunch of new Indian and Thai places since I moved to West County. I need to get back there.

My Boy Blue - give me some names. Looking for a good Indian / Thai place in West County ( I live in Glendale) - my wife and I were just talking about that the other day. We have recently developed a nice hankering for Indian food.
