I COME IN PEACE...not here to troll or talk trash. I'm coming down from Wisconsin and I've never been to St. Louis before. Wondering if I could get some help on whats there to do in St. Louis, how is tailgating and where do people hang out after games? Thank you! I'll be there Thursday-Saturday

If you like Italian food the Hill is a great place to eat. The Broadway oyster bar has good food and live music. There are usually a few bands in town any given weekend at the smaller concert venues. They provide a much better show usually than the packed mega concerts. The brewery tour is a good way to kill some time on the afternoon, especially since it looks like Milwaukee and St Louis may be brothers in beer. At least for a brief moment before the lawyers skirt, I mean, comply, with monopoly laws. If you're coming with the wife, avoid the East side. If you're arriving without the wife, head for the East side. There are more casinos than ticks on a dog.

Also, if you get here quickly, you can watch Aldermen Megan Green finish off making an ass of herself.

Drury Inn or Embassy Suites possibly - the closest I know of.

Tailgating here isn't the best, but I've seen some decent tailgating on Laclede's landing - reachable by short walk from the Dome (head east behind Lumiere Place casino).

For your food I agree the Hill is best for Itallian (South St. Louis) - Zia's in particular is popular, but there are plenty of good ones
If Prime Rib is your thing check out http://www.kreissteakhouse.com
Most outsiders won't like St. Louis style pizza, FYI

If weather is good, Zoo is world-class and has free admission

don't live there anyomore, but when I did the short list for friends visiting was:

1) brewery
2) zoo - age doesn't matter
3) magic house - especially if you have kids
4) grants farm - weather permitting, if you do the zoo this can be skipped
5)Cahokia mounds over in Illinois
6) get some toasted Ravioli - preferably several places (everyone is slightly different), if on the hill get some there!
7) time of year may be bad for it - but the botanical garden is good - weather permitting
8) the Arch is OK - kinda fun to get into the egg and go up high and feel the sway - generally skipped due to time it takes...
9) Blues play Sat afternoon - fun if you can make it

If you want to see something truly unique: The City Museum. Union Station is pretty cool, at least it was last time I went to St. Louis.

Download an app call roadtrippers, or simply just go to the website. You set your location (or zipcode) and click on things you're interested in, and it shows you things along with user ratings. I used it heavily on my last trip.

Welcome to ROD. Feel free to participate in the What Bucs Fans are Saying thread - http://www.ramsondemand.com/threads/what-bucs-fans-are-saying.41971/ It's a regular thread we have and encourage the opposing team fans to come in and give insight on their team and how they see the game going.

We were in St Louis for the opener. I highly recommend the Broadway Oyster Bar. It can be tough to get into at times but as a restaurant owner I can tell you it is a place you don't want to miss. It is not fancy but everything about it is cool and the food is amazing. A rare find.

The hill is Italian restaurant central. You can't waive a stick without hitting one. We ate at Cunetto and it was very good.

Ballpark Village was a blast for partying. A bunch of us got fairly blotto there.

Someone mentioned Union Square but when we were there, it was a virtual ghost town. I can't imagine it will be better this time of year unless there are people doing some Christmas shopping. There is a Hard Rock there but a couple of us commented that it was the most empty Hard Rock we had ever seen.

We did the Arch and that was fairly cool. It seemed somewhat mandatory - kind of like going up in the Empire State building or walking on the Brooklyn Bridge if in NY City.

Everyone we met in the Lou was very nice and liked to joke back and forth with you. I think you'll have fun there. From what I witnessed you will get treated much better than if you go to Seattle as an opposing fan.

Stay away from White Castle :puke:

Had to throw that in there for the WC fans. :fighting:

The museum underneath the Arch is worth the couple of hours to meander through.

The Museum of Westward Expansion. It documents the growth and rise of the western portion of the nation and it's a cool couple of hours.

Speaking of museums, the Indian mounds and the educational center there is fascinating. Standing on top of Monk's Mound and picturing people bringing that dirt in a handful at a time is amazing. Often overlooked. You'll encounter no crowds and the mild weather makes climbing the mound absolutely optimal right now.

It may be a bit of a drive from your hotel, but Momo's Greek Tavern has great food.

The lumiere is imo the best casino in the downtown area. Usually after a long night of gambling i go to the eat rite dinner (it's a very small mom and pop dinner that is 24hrs) down the street and my fav is the slinger with steak. Union station is a tourist attraction but it is always a ghost town there. The oyster bar is pretty cool. If you want authentic Mexican food go on the south side (about 5min from downtown) on cherokee st. There are atleast 10 mom and pop Mexican restaurants on the strip

I think the Arch trams and museum MIGHT be closed due to renovations. Please check out before planning your trip.

No need to go to the Hill for great Italian. Caleco's is probably right across the street from your hotel -- Broadway and Chestnut. Or it could be 4th and Chestnut. Not sure when 4th turns into Broadway but Caleco's is great and a lot of Rams' players -- and often the other team's players -- will be there and fairly accessible to fans. The food is fantastic -- and so are the drinks.

Carriage rides will probably be ongoing in the evenings.

Mike Shannon's, at 7th and Market (downtown), and Ballpark Village -- near Busch Stadium -- are both must-see's. The PBR bar in Ballpark Village has a mechanical bull that is fun. Shannon's is another watering hold for local athletes after sporting events. Steaks are superb!!

City Museum is a hoot. Simply a lot of fun. Not far from the Dome.

Wonderful Art Museum and Zoo in Forest Park. The Jewel Box will have its annual holiday flower display available for a small fee. Missouri Botanical Garden, which is close to the aforementioned Hill, is always decorated to the nines for Christmas. Simply beautiful.

Steinberg Rink in Forest Park for ice-skating. The Fox Theater is offering "Wicked,' but I fear it may be sold out. St. Louis Symphony, though, won't be sold out, I'm thinking, if that's your thing.

Union Station is beautiful but has never lived up to expectations. Not far from the Dome. Travel west on Market Street about 8 blocks and when you see the clocktower on the left, that is Union Station. Beautiful plaza -- Aloe Plaza -- on right with spectacular fountain and a really bizarre Serra sculpture.

Speaking of sculptures: Visit Citygarden, 801 Market St., downtown, simply the neatest melding of art and gardens in the Midwest and very accessible to everyone. Really well-thought out and beautiful. Encompasses a wide variety of artwork -- something for everyone.

The Cahokia Mounds Park is fantastic. There is a great diorama and movie explaining what is known about the mound builders and you will have a chance to climb Monk's Mound, the largest remaining mound, I believe, anywhere. Lots of artifacts to examine, too.

Also: Charlie Gitto's, I believe, is another great downtown St. Louis pasta house located at 207 North Sixth St. It is THE favorite of Tony LaRussa, he of the Baseball Hall of Fame and ex-Cardinals' manager.

If you have the money, go to Tony's which I think is now located 410 Market Street, also in downtown. Not sure if still a Michelin 3-star restaurant but it held that distinction for many, many years.

The cool thing about being in a hotel by the stadium; lots to do within walking distance for dinner and bars. It's a very safe area to move around on foot, too.

Enjoy!
