Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen (you too Merlin),

It was a good day of practice for the Rams yesterday, very heated at times. they were really getting after it in 11 on 11. My observations are gonna be vague, I didn't have my voice recorder or a roster with player #'s.
Day started with warmups, Xavier Smith, Nacua, Kyren Williams, one of these will be K and P returner. A Jackson was first player out on the field, Mike McCallister in shells pulling a wieght around behind him, did not practice.

Watched QB's take snaps and make short passed to WR's covered by one DB, wow, these WR's are making some hard sharp cuts, DB's doing well to cover, some of these youngster DB's look very good. (sorry, they have their shirts rolled up, can't see #'s)

11 on 11 is where I gave some play by play in another thread. O looked pretty good. The defense, especially the DL and pass rush not so good. Bobby Brown was 2nd string and a big disappointment to me. Slow and gets gassed after a few plays. They just aren';t very big up the middle. AD getting tripple teamed and the rest of DL can't get push. No pressure from the edge. I know its just one day's observation, but man, that's got to improve.

The OL looked OK, they need time to gell though, Shakey at times. Avila will be fine with work, Noteboom and Jackson took turns at LT with the ones, Allen played exclusively with the ones and Shelton the twos. Anchrum and Havenstien are locked in with the ones. Brusst played with the second team at RT and got his ass handed to him on more than one occasion. He needs work, although he does look better to me than he did last TC. Maybe T is a better option for him than G.

Middle LB is another huge concern, Jones is on his own, the rest are bench warmers at best.

Team practiced hard today. WR group stood out as did some DB's (wished I could give some names). DL and edge are a concern. Lets see how they scrimage vs Chargers and perform in pre-season games. Still remains to be seen if McVay will sit all his starters. some of these guys need all the practice they can get. Avila and most of edge and DB's for sure.

Thanks for the update!

Bummed to hear about Brown. No Doubt they’re going to have to be looking around to add size if he can’t contribute,

At least it’s early on and so Brown’s conditioning will improve.

He hasn’t shown anything nor Rochelle. Let’s hope at least one pick from the 2021 4th round shines or it was a waste of three picks in a deep draft

Hunter Long went just before we picked Jones but my guess he would have been the pick in the 4th as we were high on Jones and for good reason

Speaking of Rochelle, I'm fairly certain I saw him taking rep's in 11's with 1st team a fair amount. Let's hope he has turned the corner. So promising as a rook

Thanks as always Bubba for the report.

Brown by now should be showing well in that rotation. Biggest disappointment with that is everything was aligned for him to step into a big role in this defense. Of course that could still happen, who knows, but once again it's a bad sign he's not rolling with the ones and hearing that he's not up to snuff in his conditioning is worse in many ways. Because again coming into this camp the opportunity is right there given the guys who went out the door.

And same with Bruss. He does have the injury question in coming back from it. But why play him at RT where there is just as much if not more risk of knee injury out on that edge, unless they have conceded that he's not going to be able to compete at RG. I was hoping he'd be a year two revelation to give us a power run game on that right side. Oh well.

On the flip side it's good to hear Anchrum seems to have a spot locked up. Hope he can seize the opportunity and stay healthy.

Wondering how that OL stacks for preseason games. Bennett gonna be using that mobility. :laugh3:

I really hope Anchrum is solid. He looked, albeit in preseason, really stout last year.
Need that kind of thing to offset things like Bruss' lack of progress.

This is what happens when you have most of your money tied up in three players. You have a few stars, but most of these guys are just plain green or not very good. Hopefully next year we can start fielding a normal team again.

IMO the Rams are seeing if Bruss can play the backup for both right guard and right tackle, as they have Jackson to play both backup positions on the left side.

Quite possible. Good thing is we should get a thorough look at him in preseason.

Been saying since day 1, the inexperienced defense was my number 1 concern. Gonna be a year to see who steps up and see who are keepers beyond this year.

I’ve posted about Zach Van being a nice OLB. In the other side Bryon Young has taken strides to get better.
Young had a Sack on Stafford. You can’t touch him or hit his arm.If so there’d been a sack.
#6 is a small guy who holds a punch. He was making plays.
#23 WHITE (not K.Williams in blue) was starting opposite side.
KD#1 has not practiced & will be a starter.
—Durant is strictly a SLOT CB. He made a couple nice plays.

Yeast #2is all over the field with Fuller #4
Lake is #37.

Johna Williams number #92 is in the middle as DT. Murch is like #52. Earnest #90 & Bobby #95 are going to be fine.
AD99 is lining up wide a lot. It’s almost like a chest match. He wides up say wide left & then the next play he blows up a running play TFL against the rookie Steve Avalia like he wasn’t even there.

Hey I can't find this anywhere--are the Rams playing any of those joint-practice scrimmages, prior to the preseason games?

I said it last year when he got hurt & now this year he looks all ready like a BUST.

#57 Zach Thomas might actually be better than Steve Avila as of Day 3. Day 1 I was impressed with Avila.

Is it seeing AD99 & the shock ? Especially in Pads full speed blew his mind ?

I don’t know. I’m just reporting & each day is different. BubbaRam was really frustrated yesterday day. Sort of funny. He has so much passion it’s great!
