Why wouldn't they let DePodesta & Hue fix this? I mean, they hired all these analytics people...let them do their job...I can't believe we're looking like Cleveland....

If I was the browns....I'd wait for 2018....and have this team ready for Darnold or Rosen....they put together an awesome line....and they have Greg Williams for the defense...they could win 8-9 games with Osweilder or Kessler.

I agree with you Champ. Browns should hold up on getting a first round qb this year and go all in next year. Trade their 12th pick for a teams first round next year (2018), and a solid 3rd or 4th year player who is a backup quarterback on a team now (say the Rams), then the Browns have 2 firsts and 2 seconds to trade up for the first or second pick next year, or they could use their first round 2019 to make it 3 first round picks to get the top pick in 2018.
Then the team who now has the round 1 pick #12 (say the Rams) trade it back between #19 and #24 pick, and a second round pick, and now the Rams have a 1st round pick and two 2nd round picks for this years draft. Now the Rams can really get some top players who will hopefully be around for a long time.

On the Cowboys message board, a guy called out several posters for wanting Johnny, then dug up old threads with their quotes. It was funny.
Hmmmmm this sounds like a pretty funny! Lol

Not necessarily. Remember when ponder locker and gabbert all went top 12 back in 2011? This could be a very similar deal

and the winner is........

you would think nfl teams would learn from other team's mistakes. different rules for qbs.

It's funny. I said the same thing about a month ago. This is just like the 2011 Draft. A bunch of teams forced QB picks. Now the question is, who has the Newton and the Dalton? Who has the others?

Personally, I think Patrick Mahomes will be the Newton. He was already the QB I liked the most, and he landed in the perfect situation. His game tape reminded me a lot of Favre's. He landed with Favre's old coach who is known for being a QB whisperer. And to top it all off, he won't have to play for at least a year (maybe longer) because Alex Smith is there. That's perfect for him. He needs time for his coach to rebuild his mechanics from the ground up, and he'll need time to learn how to make the sort of pre-snap reads to allow him to play within the structure of a NFL offense.

Not bad InnovatedMind. I'm just not liking the quarterbacks in this years draft. There's a reason the Rams went all in for Jared last year - this years crop of qb's is extremely weak. If the Browns had any brains at all, they would trade their 12th pick to someone for next years first and a player. This way they can go after 2 quarterbacks that are superior to anything coming out this year, and be set (possibly) for the next 10 years. The 2 qb's still in college that I am talking about are Sam Darnold from USC, and Josh Rosen from UCLA. If they do a trade like I am suggesting, then the Browns have two 1st's and two 2nd's to trade for the 1st or second pick next year (they could also use their first round pick in 2019, which would be 3 first round picks in total). In the meantime, they make a trade to a team that has a strong young backup, who is probably as good as some of the qb's coming out this year, he holds the fort down for one season, until they get Darnold or Rosen next year, and they are a much stronger team for the future.
Now the Rams come into play with this scenario. The Rams trade them Sean Mannion and our next years first rounder, and we get the Browns 1st round 12th pick this year. We then trade out of the 12th pick to between the 19th and 24th first round, and another teams 2nd round pick, say Tampa Bay (19th) or Raiders (24th). Now we have a first round pick, and 2 second round picks (our 2nd rounder and the team we trade with's 2nd rounder). We now have a really good shot at Forrest Lamp in the first round, and with our 2 second rounders we now have, we are able to pick a WR, CB and or TE, which ever are the 2 best available players at those spots. So now we go for a qb in the 4th or 5th round and pick Josh Dobson from Tennessee, and we have our backup.
If you don't like trading away Sean Mannion, replace him with Mark Barron (LB/SS), and you just made Greg Williams defense that much stronger.
I'm just trying to figure out a way to get into the 1st round and get another 2nd rounder that actually makes sense for both sides.

Say what you want Watson was a perfect pick !!! Don't recall exactly who he went to ??? Just think he has a chance to start , which is cool. Dak Prescott was a Ln excellent pick last year .

Mahomes has the best opportunity I think. Watson has a nice situation too. Have to think he'd be better than osweiler eventually. I think Mitch will be gabbert...

Watson is a really good qb going to the Texans, but I just like the top 2 qb's coming out next year in Darnold and Rosen. In the NFL, pocket quarterbacks tend to be much more successful in the long haul than running quarterbacks. Darnold and Rosen are your more traditional pocket type of qb's, whereas Watson fits in the mold of a running quarterback with good vision and good arm strength, just don't know how long he'll last.

So the Browns traded their 12th for Texans 2018 first rounder. I was hoping the Rams could trade our 2018 first rounder out to get into the first round and then trade out to a later first round and get another second rounder for the trade. In the example I gave above, I even threw in Mannion to grab the Browns 1st round #12 pick - turns out all they wanted was a 2018 first rounder from Houston.

I'd like to see the Rams take an offensive lineman at 37, and since we didn't trade away Tru or Barron, go after a receiver with our second pick. Then grab a center and a CB.
