Just my take...
Brady was very close to playing in MIA. That's where he wanted to be. Winning rings is what he's all about. MIA's blazing fast WR's and hungry roster is what Brady is missing.
To add to that point, all the hype to a very large degree is in the AFC. Many new faces and loaded decks across the board. That's what Brady wanted. Now he can sleep walk to a division title. What's the point?
With that said, the Bucs are a top contender in the NFC. Brady's fallen into a rut because there's really no new energy surrounding that Tampa team. It's the same guys minus Gronk, which is a huge minus.
He doesn't need to be playing in Preseason anyway. It's a waste of time, let someone else have those reps. I don't blame him at all, although it is surprising.
There were times last year it felt like KC wasn't a hungry team either. Sometimes you need that turning over of the roster to infuse some youthful energy, guys who have something to prove. The Bucs haven't had that. It's a stale environment. They still have one heck of a football team, but not a hungry team.
