I don't think they'd bench Brown when he's eligible to come back just because his replacement performed capably. I suspect the standard would be higher than that. Now, if he comes back and struggles significantly, he could be benched mid game perhaps.
I hope Blythe plays so well Brown loses his spot. The team needed him (brown) Week One and he is out. Next man up, which is Blythe. It’s Blythe’s big opportunity and I hope he does the most with it.

Blythe looked like a starter.

They might want to lock him up long term while the price is right.

Lucky for us is AB will not be a UFA utill March 2020. AB fits in perfectly for Kromer's ZBS. If Jamon Brown wants to remain a Ram he will resign now because AB might have keep him on the bench.

If McVay wants to remain pass happy Kromer might need to keep AB in the lineup just to keep Goff from being molested.

Might want to see what more he has to offer before being to rash and offering him some money. Plus he's under contract for another 2-3 years which bodes well for us!

With that being said I liked him a lot since last year so I am high on him especially after last nights performance. Jamon Brown needs to be worried if he wants to stay on this roster.

I still think they should re-sign Jamon Brown as the starter but when you have a player that can play as a game-day active and cover the center and guard position almost flawlessly, (so far), why not lock him up long-term?

(Not realizing that he was already signed for the next two seasons when I wrote about locking him up long-term above)

Agreed, the Raiders had no pass rush that game. Let's see how he does against defenses with a better pass rush; confident he'll be up to the task though

Todd Gurley needs to follow this route on Monday Night.

Nice. Lets hope they close down any on-coming traffic lanes, too.

Buzzards are feeding on the carcasses left on the route from last nights game.

Losing Brown would be a massive mistake. it’s hard to find solid lineman and then backups.

Blythe looked awesome and is also able to play center so i like him as a backup, even if he is playing at Browns level.

what happens if Blythe starts at guard and Sullivan goes down?Brown can’t play center and Allen isn’t ready.

All agree that Austin Blythe should start for the Rams, even the lineman he replaced
By Rich Hammond
https://www.pe.com/2018/09/19/all-a...rt-for-the-rams-even-the-lineman-he-replaced/

Austin Blythe solidified his status as a super sub, and it seems he can be more. The Rams have a delightful problem. Jamon Brown, an effective starter at right guard last season, has returned from a two-game suspension, but Blythe did a stellar job as his replacement. So now what? No need to overthink this one. The Rams are 2-0, with 30-plus points in both games, and the offensive line looks effective and cohesive. Brown might regain his job as some point, but for now, there’s no reason for the Rams to take Blythe, a former waiver-wire pickup, out of the starting lineup.

Everyone seems to be in agreement, including Brown.“I’m going to do whatever is asked of me,” Brown said after Wednesday’s practice at Cal Lutheran. “Blythe, he played well the first two weeks and I think he earned and deserved every right to continue to keep that up. I’ll do what I can, as far as still preparing and still practicing and approaching every day the same.” Rams coach Sean McVay has stopped short of declaring that Blythe will keep the job, or for how long, but McVay’s thinly veiled comments this week indicated that Blythe will start Sunday against the Chargers.

Blythe, 26, whom the Rams plucked after Indianapolis discarded him in May 2017, has started only four NFL games, but he was superb in the last two – this year’s season opener at Oakland and last week’s dominant victory over Arizona – when he played every snap and certainly didn’t look out of place. The Rams activated Brown from the exempt list Wednesday and he practiced for the first time in three weeks. Presumably, Brown will be available against the Chargers, but probably as a backup.

The NFL suspended Brown for the first two games of the season for a violation of its substance-abuse policy. Brown served a four-day house-arrest sentence in 2017 after he pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI. Brown said police found marijuana in his car, but Brown was not charged for any drug possession.

During his absence, a top analytics website, Pro Football Focus, graded Blythe as the NFL’s fourth-best guard (left or right) though the first two weeks of the season. The site graded Blythe higher as a pass blocker than a run blocker, with two quarterback pressures allowed on 135 snaps. Blythe also opened eyes in the run game. On a fourth-and-goal play from the Arizona 1-yard line last Sunday, Blythe mauled a defensive lineman and Todd Gurley scored without being touched. “It feels good,” Blythe said. “Really, I think it just means I’ve done my job and done it well enough that the coaches have recognized it and they’re going to continue to let me try to prove myself. I’ve got to keep doing it every week.”

The Rams also must make decisions with the future in mind. Brown is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season and will be due a raise at the end of his rookie contract. More notably, left guard Rodger Saffold also is set to be a free agent, and he has a salary-cap hit of almost $8 million this season.

Blythe is under contract for next season at what would seem to be a bargain salary of $720,000. It’s reasonable to think the Rams might retain Blythe as a starting guard in 2019, then move him to center in 2020. Center John Sullivan’s contract will expire after 2019, when Sullivan will be 34 years old.

I will say I was pleasantly surprised by Blythe these last two games. He does not pass the eye test of a mauling guard who can move the pile and bloody someone's nose in pass pro but it just looks like the guy gets it done and done rather well. Gotta keep him in the lineup till he shows he can't.

And kudos to Brown for acknowledging that. Guy has to be doing some soul-searching, getting the suspension in a contract year and possibly losing his starting job.

Blythe has earned the starting RG job, and Brown gave him that opportunity by making a bad choice that earned himself a suspension for two games. Now he has to prove he's better than Blythe to get his job back. I like his attitude though.

Jamon Brown has not had much luck over the last year......:sadwalk:

* Getting busted for aggravated DUI.
* Served a four-day house-arrest sentence in 2017 after he pleaded guilty.
* NFL suspended Brown for the first two games of the season for a violation of its substance-abuse policy.
* Removed for three weeks from the Rams team.
* Thus giving Austin Blythe an opportunity & tasked to do Brown's job for the first 2 weeks of the regular season. Who just happens to perform near to pro bowl level for 2 gms.
* Then not being inserted back into the starting line-up.
* All of the above occuring during the vital 4th season of his initial rookie contract within a 6 month window of his pending UFA'cy looking to secure his first big contract.

On the more positive side for Jamon is the Rams will need to secure 2 starting OG's for 2019 season. Jamon still stands a good probability to remain a Ram starting OG IF he will work through this major negative event & decide to sign a Ram friendly moderate contract & taking in the full picture of what he can be a part of .....in this outstanding exciting offenses, on a winning team, in one of the best NFL weather playing cities, blocking for the best RB in the NFL, Pass blocking for a deserving hard working QB & finally playing for one of the best front offices now in the NFL.:bueller:

FWIW's some of Aaron Kromer's best work is Austin Blythe....Remember how upset all of us were when the Bills matched the offers sheet of Ryan Groy? Enter John "Sully" Sullivan and then the Rams claim Austin Blythe and now Groy is snapping for Josh Allen.

When you watch the above clip ...yes that Blythe run block was impressive but you might want to .... #1-look at the entire OL as a whole too & #2- I would invite you to observe #65 too :sneaky::lifting:

OK, so great block, right? Well, when the DL slants so hard, all you have to do is put a little meat on him. It isn't a tough block to make. Not taking away from Blythe, who had played great, but that is an easy block for a lineman. Now, if Gurley was going through the 1 or 3 hole, there would have been a problem. Arizona guessed wrong.

With Sullivan's recent injury reports, I'm okay with changing the title to "Blythe Ready to Fill In at Center" if push comes to shove.
