Blake Countess named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week
By: Cameron DaSilva

With the Los Angeles Rams down their top three return specialists on Sunday after JoJo Natson broke his hand, Blake Countess was called upon to bring back kicks. He did so twice, averaging 25.5 yards per return, but his biggest play came on a punt.

In the second quarter of the Rams’ win over the Chargers, Cory Littleton blocked Drew Kaser’s punt, which was recovered by Countess for a touchdown. It was a good play by Countess to be in the right place at the right time, but Littleton was the one who made it happen yet again.

Countess was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Chargers.

This is the Rams’ second time having a player earn Special Teams Player of the Week this season with Countess joining Greg Zuerlein in Week 1. It’s been a common trend for the Rams the past two seasons, continuing their strong special teams play.

Blake Countess should be a very busy Ram Thursday Night. Until the Rams make a roster revisement dealing with the new injuries to three defensive starters Peters-Talib-Easley, BC will be be the lone secondary reserve.

This will be BC's third Ram season since the Eagles 2016 6th rd draftee was sent to the WWC resort back in (9/3/16). Rams was quick to secure his services to be the back up to corner Lamarcus Joyner. Later in BC's rookie season he started 2 gms & finised 2 others for the injured corner Joyner.

BC has now played in 32 Ram gms with 3 starts. I posted yesterday about him & pointed out that he has seen action in every secondary position for the Rams so his versatility is sure to help Wade out thru these 2 DB injuries.Wade moved BC from corner to safety post when he arrived last season. There is a reason why Bones inserted C to return Kicks...40-yard dash: 4.48 seconds.

Versatile is the key word here.
As a 6th round draftee, I love it when these guys make a name for themselves and get noticed.

Countess at 5'10" and 180 lbs packs a wallop. He is totally fearless. Unfortunately that cost him some serious fines last season. Hopefully he's been coached to be smart and careful. We don't need excess penalties in any game.

Rams safety Blake Countess delivered a vicious hit to 49ers receiver Marquise Goodwin Sunday knocking him out of the game, and Countess is paying the price for it.

Countess did not receive a suspension and will still be able to play in the Rams' playoff game Saturday, but he was fined by the NFL a hefty $48,620 for the hit.

Countess was fined $24,308 for a hit on Coby Fleener that resulted in a concussion.

He could have played in Da Raiders secondary back in the day.

If a wr or TE went across the middle of Da Raiders secondary that's what would happen.

Teams just didn't go there. Now they have rules that prevent such defense.

Jack Tatum and George Atkinson. Ronnie Lott was that type of player as well.

I expect to see him playing more snaps on defense with Talib out.
