Would losing Nathan Scheelhaase yield a draft pick if he is going from a passing game coordinator to an OC too? It's definitely a promotion. Or do only hires into head coaching position qualify? With how incredible McVay is at finding new coordinators and position coaches year after year after year, give me the draft picks every time.

Yes it would a 3rd this year and one next year too. Only as a Head Coach though.

Half read the post while listening to the tv.

Wouldn’t that be a 3rd round pick as well?

Scheelhaase as a HC would garner a third-round pick for the next two years (this one and next year), but another team hiring him as an OC would not give us those picks. So, we're hoping he gets hired as a HC or someone hires LaFleur and Scheelhaase stays on as our OC.

What will be very interesting is in the front office: Nicole Blake has been promoted to a high-up job as a scout, so I wonder if she may be tabbed for a GM job somewhere if we continue knocking our picks out of the park. And that would mean that we could very well get two more thirds, because I think it's minorities as a whole who need those opportunities, and that would mean women.

If McVay likes Scheelhaase as much as he insinuated, and if he's that good, you can bet he won't be allowed to leave with Shula or LaFleur if they get a gig. He'll be the new OC.

If he does go with one of them it means he's not quite as badass as he was built up to be. So basically I trust McVay on this one.

The difficulty I see is if Shula gets a HC job but LaFleur doesn't. I'm not so certain that McVay would push LaFleur out to promote Scheelhaase. And I expect that Shula might want to bring Scheelhaase with him as the OC.

I could see Shula & McVay having an understanding that it's Lafluer's time to get a real OC position to call plays and Shula takes him. Then Scheelchase becomes the OC.

McVay is cutthroat when he needs to be. What he does though is calls it some bullshit and saves the dude some ego.

If Scheelhaase is that good, he will certainly end up our OC. LaFleur will take some amazing offer of another job that came up and everyone will be all kissy and huggy. But it'll be the move that has to be made.

I see a possibility of PhillyRam's suggestion above working out. If Shula wants an OC connected to McVay, and he's fine with LaFleur, he takes him as his OC. McVay could force that by telling Shula he's promoting Scheelhaase to OC no matter what.

Yeah there's many ways it could happen. LaFleur could take a job wherever. Just like Liam Coen (Jaguars Head Coach) did after his 2022 stint as our OC. McVay called it an amazing opportunity for him to return to Kentucky or whatever. But his ego was saved. And he went on to get an HC opportunity and did well his first year with Jax.

There's college jobs, NFL staff jobs, nine new OC jobs on staffs forming right now. LaFleur would get another gig for sure given how he's performed here. And there would be nothing wrong with McVay moving him out for another OC. This is the league and the Rams are an elite franchise that is always looking to get better.

It would be just like the Raiders to hire another McDaniel who lacks the cajones to run the whole show.
