Just finished watching 'Halt & Catch Fire' on Netflix. If you are a computer nerd or just happen to have an interest in how the tech industry evolved, this show is for you. The plot revolves around 4 fictitious characters creating & building emerging tech companies in this rapidly growing sector during the 80's & 90's. The acting and character growth is excellent imo.

I watched the first season or two when it was on I think AMC? It was interesting but I kinda lost track of it. Thanks for the reminder gonna have to revisit this.

Netflix added the final 2 of the 4 total seasons from what I gather. I was never a tech wizard, but still found this program pretty interesting. I'm sure the real geeks out there will recognize some of the true names associated with whom these characters are portraying. I believe the original company they began with was a pseudonym for Compaq, others you'll have to pick out as the show evolves.

I always doubted the amounts of alcohol that is consumed in movies that are set in the 1800's to early 1900's, especially Westerns. So I did some research and discovered it was true. Clean safe water was often hard to come by. It makes sense when you look at what the area that Peaky Blinders is set in. So alcohol and beer were consumed commonly as a safe form of hydration. Scotch, bourbon, Irish Whisky, etc... was a lot more watered down back then too. So it was easier to drink it often. Plus it was common for people to offer drinks when someone arrived because it was a good bet that they were thirsty since water wasn't always easy to access. I used to wonder why people still offer visitors a drink as soon as they arrive. With Fastfood and convenience stores everywhere, hydration is readily available.

Before water well drilling in smaller towns and rural areas of the US clean drinking water was rainwater or distilled water or beer and as you said spirits. Unless forced by war or poverty people didn't use to travel as extensively as we do today because of the danger of unsafe water. Back then people born and raised in an area developed immunity (or died) to the prevalent bacteria in the water supply. Moving to a different locale presented a real danger of not having enough immunity to the new pathogens. The young and old were particularly susceptible.

Looks like Katee Sackoff has spent a good deal of time in the gym since her Longmire days, she's slimed down, sculptured and added muscle tone.

Yes she has, but she's a little too skinny now.

This is a good series. I'm waiting for Netflix to add the second season.

Does anyone else notice that all Netflix offers is self-indulgent hagiographic Chef shows?

And all those chef shows have the same vibe, this staccato violin and a douchey guy/gal worshipping themselves and talking about “their food.”

What is with the obsession with chefs? They aren’t heroic in anyway shape or form

I get your point and I would generally agree. Yet if someone is dependent upon someone else cooking and that someone sucks at cooking, then a person somewhat skilled at cooking would get appreciation if not adulation to keep that person cooking.

I'm loving Carnival Row. It's like the fantasy fiction stuff that I read as a kid, but in adult form. The acting is good, the policies are hot and so are the sex scenes. The unfolding story makes me want to binge this, but I couldn't stay up all night since my kids have two days off school.
