Certainly one top corner is needed. Young stud who can take top draws. But you may be right that we need more than that. Honestly I am floored by how bad this secondary is. To the point that I would be considering firing a DB coach that I have always respected.
I will add that Darious Williams could be released in the offseason. They free up $6.8M in additional cap space if they let him go and only take a $2.3M dead cap hit.

Or he takes a pay cut to stick around. He just may have hit that 31 yr old wall the CBs hit.

The defense was trending upward, but it seems to have hit a plateau or gotten worse as of late...
Maybe this is because we've recently played two of the best offenses in the league, both of which have a top MVP candidate. Any chance that's it? They recently held NO to 14 so it hasn't been all bad as of late.

Also, in addition to it being the league's least expensive defense, it's the youngest defense. Expect inconsistency.

I have hope for this defense - but the way many of the people on this board treat it like it's a young child that can't be criticized is funny to me.

24th in pts 24th in pass defense 28th in rush defense.

Again, I this this defense has potential - but "inconsistent" is pretty nice.

The defense was trending upward, but it seems to have hit a plateau or gotten worse as of late. The secondary has weak spots, but we also have one of the worse run defenses in the NFL - not exactly a winning combo.
Buffalo didn't have 10 wins coming into our game vs them by accident. Allen is just about impossible to stop. The dude could have 150 a game on the ground if he wanted very easily. He is a mismatch vs just about every defender there is. But outside of Allen the run defense was stout. Rams are actually not bad vs the run of late, we just faced an Eagles and Bills team that both have MVP talents (Barkley & Allen).

Secondary unfortunately is a hot pile of shit. It's really unfortunate how bad they are. If they were even mediocre this is a contender.

And... if I counted correctly - the Bills have allowed an average of (about) 17 pts/game.

Like I posted at the time. It should have been advantage defense with plenty of dime packages and pressure. Yet, not only did the Bills keep scoring touchdowns but with junk plays eating up hardly any clock. That’s not so much about individual talent - it should not happen even if it’s the potential MVP running and slinging it. We made them look like the GST

Well yeah, the eagles can run the ball well.. but we gave up 314 yards rushing. That's bad for a college team.. We also gave up 231 yards rushing to the cardinals earlier this year. The run defense has been good a few games but besides that it is been pretty poor. It's a defense in the process of being rebuilt so yes we must be patient - but also we need to call a spade a spade.

It wasn't like the D was awful the whole game. Buffalo was held to 14 points in the 1st half and it would have been 7 if Young hadn't had a brain fart and hit Allen when he was clearly out of bounds. Also they kept Buffalo from scoring at all on both sides of the half time which is a really big deal. Most teams now are choosing to kick off 1st because getting 2 possessions in a row like that can change the game.

Yes the D can look real bad at times and after the Bills 1st possession of the 2nd half never stopped them, but out of the gate, which we been harping on all season, they did real good. And it made a huge difference in the outcome.

Nobody's making excuses for them here. They are better right now at stopping the run than they were in the first matchup vs SF. Guys are more settled in their roles. Brown is playing far better. Good rotation off the bench with Fiske and company.

Doesn't mean any more than that. We know this is a bad defense. But the Rams matched up well vs SF earlier this year defensively and I think will do so again. And our offense is in far better shape up front on top of that.
