OFFENSE
HC/Offensive coordinator
= Better - McVay has been schooled and has learned a lot since is early title of boy genius his first 2 seasons. His red-zone efficiency has been so so. He has his QB now and this is his
5th season on the job. It's time to see some new wrinkles and adjustments and show us he can take that next step to be an elite top 3 HC in the league.
QB =
Big upgrade - Stafford is in the prime of his career and on paper he and McVay seem like a perfect match.
Wolf is a solid backup.
RB
= Better - Akers & Henderson are no longer green behind the ears. They should both respect the NFL more now by how much bigger and harder the defensive players can pound the body. Take care of your bodies and hit the gym harder boys. Xavier Jones and Funk should be a fun battle for the #3 RB. Calais is on the ropes unless he pops this preseason.
WR =
Big upgrade - if Kupp's knee issues don't flare up this season. We need DeSean and Tutu to be a durable duo and the long ball issues will be a forgotten issue.
TE =
(as of today it feels weaker) - Higbee is a stud. Everett never took his game to another level and Mundt's merely been an average tight end but not bad. Hopkins completed his
redshirt year so it's time to shine, hit the practice squad or cut bait for him.
Harris is a super athlete that looks like the boom or bust type. Blanton has no pro-tape to make anyone excited. As of today if feels like the TE blocking talent as a whole is less than desirable. ouch
OL
= Same/TBD & possibly tilting to
a little better. Whit is the ageless anchor. Havs is nothing great but good enough to be a starting RT in the league. Center experiments are under way so stay tuned as it could have a domino effect on the guard position. (Could be negative or positive or break even.) I was one of the few that applauded the parting ways of
Kromer for the fresh infusion of
Carberry at the helm.
There are a few O-Lineman that have been grooming the past 2 years so we don't know how far along they've come to simply rate the depth or improvement as merely same. This group seems to be unpredictable at the moment but they overachieved as a unit last season. Blythe is gone so there are no more excuses for his play. The Rams passed on drafting the highest rated center so they feel like they know the pulse of their O-Line.
Special Teams =
Better - Some young special teams studs were added in the 2021 draft still needs to translate to the pro level. The departure of
Bonamego is addition by subtraction.
