Looking at QB’s that franchises might be ready to give up on… a QB to plop behind Stafford next year, with potential to rebuild his career into a solid starter…

What about Mac Jones? He just turned 25.

New England sucks offensively, but there is Mac Jones with a 65% completion percentage. He’s got zero WR’s that get open. He looks like the fall guy on a team that has lots of issues on offense.

New England is likely rebooting the entire team this offseason… Could Mac Jones be acquired on the cheap?

He’d be an interesting guy behind Stafford if we do not draft a QB.

Thoughts?

Ill pass. Id rather take a flyer on Justin Fields when the bears give up on him. Or maybe even a Deshaun Watson?????

It's tough @CGI_Ram , once a bad coordinator (In in Jones case several) ruins a young QB it's hard for that QB to rebound. It can happen but rarely does. IMO

Like most, I figure the Bears draft a QB and move on from Fields. However, I think he will have trade value to Chicago.

Mac Jones arm strength would concern me. But Zach Wilson might be the perfect Geno Smith reclamation type prospect.

In the end Carson Wentz would be the best option, IMO.

Carson Wentz in my opinion. I have a feeling once he gets on the field he'll be the Rams starter for years. He's the mobile QB everyone has been wanting.

I think if Mac is waived, he will be claimed. That team is completely devoid of talent on the offensive side of the ball
Mac was legit as a rook and has seen his career go downhill since with the revolving door of oc
I think he'd end up on a team where he has a shot at the QB job, like Baker Mayfield found this year.
That said, I'd rather we draft a QB who can give us a cheap 4 year contract and would have potential to be a starter.

I agree here, I would not touch Zach Wilson with a ten foot pole. He is going to need someone special to handle him and find that talent, but IMO, Wilson is lacking from the neck up and that would concern me.

If Rams are going the way of the reclamation project, I would be happy with Wentz, but if not him I still think there's a legit QB in Jameis Winston

I thought those suggestions were blue font material, Fields would attract serious attention if he were available for a trade, as his '24 salary is peanuts comparatively speaking. He also seems to have turned a corner recently and has been playing decent.

Fuck no we don't want Mac in the house! Horrible teammate and locker room cancer according to most. Hell, even his coaches dislike him.

I think Wentz is the Ram's fallback option. If their targeted QB isn't on the board the Rams might target a high ceiling but more developmental player.

JJ McCarthy fits that type of player. McCarthy reminds me of Josh Allen in that he has a cannon arm but his mechanics are in need of a lot of work to make him consistent and improve his deep accuracy. JJ is the kind of player that redshirting for a year would probably do him a world of good. Good QB coaching to improve his mechanics and reading defenses at the NFL level.

McCarthy is expected to go in the middle of the first round with some projecting him to drop into the top of the second round. I'm expecting the Rams to be picking somewhere between 20-25 so he could drop to them. I'm not saying he will or that they should take him. But I am saying he's the kind of alternative they might consider.

With Stafford likely to play in 2024 it's going to be decision time for Carson. Does he backup Stafford in 2024? With Matt's injury history I think he does. So I can see Carson sigining a 2 year deal with an eye on 2025. He could structure the contract to increase if he is the starter in 2025 (much like Shelton did this year). That would give the Rams a two year window to develop that QB and if he's a first round pick they control his contract for a minimum of 5 years total. As far as Wentz would be concerned if he sees playing time in 2024 like he very well might it could revive his career and the Rams would have a valuable player as trade bait.

That is the only way I see the Rams starting Wentz other than as a injury replacement for Carson. Wentz is a scheme fit for McVay's style of play. His problem has never been lack of physical talent. His issues have been between the ears. That's why I wouldn't want him as the permanent starter.

I like the idea of the Rams constantly having an eye on these reclamation types. For this year they have one in Wentz, but if he does anything other than bust his ass yeah I'm fine with trying a different option.

Also I want them to carry 3 QBs. Starter, reclamation backup, drafted development type. And prior to camp cutdowns they could have a couple of the reclamation types where one gets flipped for picks if he looks great in preseason.

I have wanted Wentz since 2016 glad he is finally here. Hopefully, it's more then a cup of coffee.

Justin Fields, easily.

I'd rather have Bailey Zappe than Mac Jones. The lack of arm talent doesn't come close to outweighing such a massive ego.

I agree. He has shown virtually no improvement and has had several opportunities.

I wasn't a fan of his when he was drafted, but I'd still like to see him have an opportunity with a more established OC.
LaFleur had never been an OC before, and Hackett was awful in Denver and awful now.
