I get botox in my scalp and neck and trapezius muscles (inner shoulder, think shrugging) and my whole back is a mess from the daily migraines.
Good advice and info so far.
1) Make sure to maintain electrolyte balance. If your electrolytes deplete, your back will just..."go". And once you're back in balance and the spasms have stopped and you've rested, you should feel all back to normal. So, prophylactically, you will want to ensure that you have the right amount of electrolytes.
2) Switch to Sea Salt (or even better Himalayan Salt). The body reacts to it differently than pure NaCl table salt and it actually makes a substantial difference in hydration. I've noticed a substantial difference in my ability to both hydrate and rehydrate since switching. And as much water weight as I lose from one roll (on the order of 8-10 lbs of water weight by the scale), without being able to properly replenish, I'd be cramping like mad.
3) Stretching. Can't be understated. I used to train for triathlons and have horribly tight hammies. They can WRECK a back. If you're having any back problems at all, you can't stretch too much.
4) Exercises. Often times the back or abs get tired and the other side can't support the whole torso... usually it's the back that gets tired out and folks have problems with that. Focused core exercises that work the abs, back and hips (don't forget the hips) can really help.
I'm in the process of reclaiming my house from my terrorist children, aka Al Kidda... once I do, I can get back to doing more of my own advice like I was....
Hope your situation improves.
