Isn't there film for that?
Absolutely there is. It may also be possible that Coach is just looking for a fresh in game perspective to perhaps look for things that you may not see on the field from the sidelines during the game.

Guess I look at this a little bit differently.

I don't see it as having ANYTHING to do with McVay's coaching future. Absolutely Zero, in my opinion.

This is ALL ABOUT McVay genuinely supporting his coaches; and doing so in the most proactive ways.

He allowed Matt LaFleur to make a Lateral Move in 2018 from his Offensive Coordinator to the OC in TN because it was in substance a promotion. Rather than being the OC under an offensive-mined/experienced HC in Los Angeles, LaFleur became the OC under a defensive-mined/experienced HC in TN (Mike Vrabel).

McVay has vocally promoted his coaches throughout his time with the Rams ... coordinators for head coaching roles, and position coaches for coordinator positions.

He has allowed coordinators to take-on additional responsibilities in games that have no real meaning, with regard to results ... in the pre-season, and even in the regular season (final game last season).

Other head coaches have done these things but few have been as aggressive and consistent in their efforts.

This one is the Best Examples to Date.
McVay is taking himself off-the-sidelines. Pleasant will have control. Players and other coaches can't even look over their shoulders to see if McVay agrees with a nod or a wink. I am sure, McVay will be on the head-set in the Coaches Booth but this is new.

I can not recall another head coach who has done this under these circumstances ... EVER.
Perhaps not the first time but Man! ... THIS is Not common. I think this is a terrific thing McVay is doing.
completely agree with what the purpose of this move is.

As far as speculation of when he leaves coaching? I think he is in for at least another 10 years. Since he decided not to quit, he has a totally different perspective. It is kind of like surviving cancer, it can change your perspective completely. You start to notice and appreciate all the things you took for granted. I think that is where McVay is right now. He almost quit something he strived for his whole life and then woke up and said what the fuck am I doing! No, he ain't leaving any time soon.

Yup. If you are into betting, the Chargers in this one seem like a good bet. We know the Rams don’t care about preseason; but Harb is trying to win the room now (what’s your deal!).
Great pull. Pete Carol after USC got stomped by Stanford. "What's your deal man?" Harbaug in a classic come back. "What's YOUR deal?" LOL

Doesn't he get that from the all 22 film?
I don't think you ever get live action feel from film. You can dissect a play but the feel is not the same IMO. I'm just guessing but it makes sense to me.

I also think he can make tweaks to plays and call them down depending on what he may want to see.

McVay has always been about lifting up his staff… nothing to fret about.

Exactly.
Sometimes I think the reaction people have to little differences in McVay's approach, leads to speculations of an automatic transition to the broadcast booth, comments. Aubrey Pleasant is a damn fine coach who deserves his opportunities to elevate himself and McVay will give him those chances. I know I wanted him to ascend to DC when Raheem got the job a few years ago.

In the interest of fairness and accuracy, apparently Mike Vrabel did this in Tennessee.

Still rare, noteworthy and deserving of attention (in my opinion) but not the first time a head coach took himself off the sidelines, and allowed an assistant to be the de facto head coach.

So hear me out…

Coach Harbaugh had a coach coach for him 6 game last year and he won a National Championship.

McVay seen that and learned and now is doing it on the way to our SB!

Blake understands! :sunglasses::laugh4:

The reason Carroll was pissed was because Harbaugh did a 2 pt conversion when leading by over 30 points.

That was classless in my opinion.
