I think everyone here agrees we overpaid him.
BUT, if we could get just some of this magic next season. . . .

The dude has some SERIOUS sticky fingers. And if he gets a step, there ain’t no one catching him. He goes down at the slightest contact but by then he’s already got his yards generally.

Clearly it’s an unknown right now but listening to McVay talk, he really wants more explosivity (can I coin that?). I get the feeling he is going to go into the lab and come up with ways to get the ball to TuTu in space. There are lots of ways to move the chains and really how close can a defender play TuTu without the fear of getting burned deep. I think there were a lot of factors involved in him not getting the targets. I think both McVay and Stafford trusted Puka and Kupp more, Robinson was getting some good separation.

My guess is that we grab a big body receiver, probably one of these TEs, and have TuTu as that lightning with Puka, Whittington, and the new TE along with Higbeast provide the thunder. I won’t be surprised in the least if we also grab a speedy RB that can catch.

OK. So here is my caveat. We always called my grandmother TuTu. It’s Hawaiian for grandparent. I want TuTu to be with us for a long time. My grandmother died several years ago when she was 96. But she was such a character (she would go to discos in her 80s, jab a fork into your elbow if they were on the dining table) and influence for all my family and I think about her every time I hear his name.

Rams signed a similar player in 2016. He averaged 5 fumbles over the next two season, scored a combined 3 tds over those two seasons ( 0 in 2017), and had 509 yds in 2016 and 47 yds in 2017. Similar player, similar stature, and all the same limitations. McVay coached him in 2017.

Has everyone forgotten that McVay has worked successfully with another diminutive receiver before when he coached on Washington? That receiver's name was DeSean Jackson. Tutu is a better version of DeSean: better overall route running, arguably better hands, absolutely no 'Me, not We' attitude. With Cooper presumably going away, what is to stop Sean for tweaking his offensive schemes to better match Tutu's skill set? :thumbsup1:

Nothing ever is easy. You said it was too much to expect a rookie WR to contribute. I point out they do and they can. What is more likely to happen though a rookie WR comes in and contributes or Tutu contributes in a meaningful way for a playoff team, one that wouldn't use him in the playoffs last year btw.

We're all Rams fans we all want this to be a good signing and for him to blow it up and make anybody doubting this signing look up a recipe for crow. But he's done absolutely nothing to give us reason to believe that he can be a #2 WR on a playoff team, since he's been on this playoff team for 4 years and hasn't done anything yet beyond a couple average games when there were no other options. I get it I really do, I just see nothing to hold out hope but as always I've been wrong before I'll be wrong again and I'll admit it.
I think rams paid him that much because they knew they underutilized him and they didn’t wanna loose him … the salary only 5 mill other 5 a bonus … if they use him in the slot he should get at least 800 yards

So they felt sorry for him?

800 yards in the slot for a 160 lb WR going over the middle? Good luck with that hope your right but again as I've said many times. He's done nothing to earn that trust of a projection.

No they didn’t want him going somewhere else when they felt they could have better utilized him here with kupp out opens up the spot for him … all his best games he’s played majority in the slot last year vs Seattle when him and puka both went off it was from slot … they wasn’t taking kupp off the field for tutu…

I think they saw how absolutely shitty this free agent class is and over paid him for just one year to keep a 2nd vet on the roster. They know he's not worth this but they were stuck paying him instead of over paying somebody who doesn't know the offense. I think they'll draft at least 1 if not 2 WR's and Tutu will be a free agent next year.

He has literally done everything the Rams have ASKED of him. Presumably they will now ask more of him, and hopefully he will continue to deliver.

I'm really not sure what more Tutu could have done to pacify his antagonists. He ran the plays he was asked to run. He made plays when asked. If Stafford could hit him in stride he would have more of those TDs some complain about.

I have seen nothing in his game that makes me think he cannot be a capable #3. He is just a lil feller, of course, so i would expect them to have him running routes out of motion to help avoid jams at the line. Looking fwd to seeing how they use him.

The goal is for players to be paid for their future expectations. Not their past accomplishments.

Now the past can give one an idea of the future, but in this case it's isn't as if Atwell failed in his past. He just received limited opportunities. Just like DeSean Jackson received limited opportunities during his Rams tenure. Only he wanted out because of it.

Same song every year. "They'll surely use Tutu this year!" But then they didn't.
I'll guess we'll see...

I posted that for people that wanted drob to get the money
Who wants DRob paid? I think most of us don't think he'll be on the Rams. But hey he did almost double Tutu's career TD mark. Four TD's in 164 career targets and DRob had 7 in 64 targets this year. Also it's debatable if Tutu did more with less targets. Yards sure 62 more yards on 2 less targets but 7 less TD's is a chasm that those 62 yards can't close. I don't see anybody defending DRob though he isn't a #3 WR let alone a #2 like Tutu is being paid now. But I see a lot of people pointing to DRob calling him bad and saying that makes Tutu better.

Again for the 100th time I hope Tutu does great. But there isn't a lot of reasons to think he will.

I personally think that many of the comments reflected "bad form." I really do not care about "status" because someone has been part of a group for a period of time. "Relative Newbie" has been a Rams fan for nearly 50 years as if even that matters. I decide to read and post sporadically, even back when the ClanRam was fairly active. And I was not calling out the "member base," just a select few that carry a fairly obvious "know it all" attitude. I've seen and read considerably worse, so go ahead and call me out all you want.
Exactly I hate the whole message board "seniority" thing which seems to be really big on here
