I don’t want to pay draft capital to get a kicker who’s only slightly better at the moment.
Gano is really good.

Last week he drilled three FGs from 50 or more yards.

Just two years ago he was All Pro. Think his only miss of the season was a 50-plus yard attempt.

Sloman does not inspire any confidence. Rams look good but they will need some big time kicks.

Kinda cool to see others believe the Rams biggest weakness is kicker.
As for trading a 6th round pick, just draft down in the draft to get it back, as the rams have done often.

He is 33 and it looks like he is an average kicker at 82.3 maybe a little worse than average who is on a hot streak. So I just looked it up on a % basis. He is average. I would trade a 6th rounder for a top 10 kicker but, I want to see their complete states. Maybe some others that are young but, have 4-5 years of experience. Sloman can easily become better than Kano.

Guys ... Gano’s 52-of-56 on FGAs over the past three seasons.

Saw the Dallas game last week, and he drilled three 50-yard kicks (50, 54, 55) in a close game.

Yeah i think my point may have been lost. Forget Gano. Gano doesn't matter. Some of you spoke of draft capital and guys we've hit on late. I've been Snead's biggest defender where the draft is concerned so there's that.

All of those late rd guys we've hit on though that were mentioned, none of those guys will be in position to either win or lose a game single handedly on a single play in the same way a kicker does. That's just a fact.

This is important....listen to me.
giphy.gif

Kickers are important in the playoffs. More important than a 6th rd LB you hit on.

So...trading a 6th rd pick to upgrade a rookie kicker on THIS team is a no brainer IMO. Well forget the IMO stuff, it just is.

I want a veteran kicker here.

Dallas is going nowhere this season and they have a veteran kicker......
If he's better than Sloman give them a call. I don't pretend to be a guru of scouting kickers but our guy is gonna break our hearts down the road this season. I can feel it.

Salary cap folks, I don't think the Rams can afford The Leg or any other off the charts good kicker

But look at the value of a reliable kicker in close games. If Sloman is worthy of a seventh ground pick, a better kicker is worth a sixth round pick. Besides, it's not like all of Snead's later round selections have panned out. You cannot fairly just name the ones that have. 2018 Jamie Demby John Kelly, Travin Young. 2017 Tandem Smart, Sam Rogers. 2016 Tamarick Hemingway, Josh Forrest, Mike Thomas.

A future 6th round pick is like drafting Greg Zuerlein all over again, he was a 6th rounder. Graham Gano was a pro bowler as recently as 2017 with 96% fg made. How much do you trust Sloman right now with a 50+ yard field goal to win a game? Gano is 4/5 this year on those and was 3/4 in 2018. One year he was 6/6.

Sloman is only worth a 7th round pick if he turns into a decent Kicker. So that's bad logic. Gano was a below average Kicker before 2017 (he had hit less than 80% of his FGs on his career). Even in 2017, he missed 3 PATs and his longest FG was 48 yards. Simply put, I do not support trading a 6th round pick for an average Kicker. And Graham Gano has been that over his career. We can hope the guy continues to play well in 2020, but there's a very real chance he regresses to the mean.

If the coaches aren't happy with Sloman, they can go after one of the kickers on the street. Hell, Sam fucking Ficken hasn't missed a single kick this year. Kickers are volatile. You never know what you're going to get. And then there's the fact that Gano missed 20 games over the 2018 and 2019 seasons. We let Greg go because the injuries were starting to pile up.

Id do this trade in a heartbeat and I’d bet Snead would as well.
Agreed. But the Giants need more than round 6 picks to rebuild that mess. They would have no reason to make that move.

Seems extremely unrealistic.

So I keep hearing people say some players take!e time to develop. It certainly appears that Gano has only gotten better over the years. Including his first few years is misleading.

So improvement with experience only counts for Olineman? His last three years look pretty damn good. Maybe he had a coach or specialist work on a mechanical change.

The Rams look like legitimate contenders. I'm not saying Sloman will have a bad career. I'm saying with a contender its better to rely on a vet with some recently successful years, than an unproven rookie.

I think letting Zuerlein go had as much to do with inconsistency as it did with health. He wide rights became more commonplace.

Salary cap can always get adjustments.

And I'm pretty sure KD knows how.
