I don't think Robinson knew the offense. That's the biggest reason why a QB won't look at you, is that he doesn't trust you to make the right read. Especially in a scheme like this one with McVay nuking route combos for given looks or reads pre-snap. If the QB and wideout don't both make the same read then the QB will look like a fool completing a pass to a defender at times.

But I agree moving him now is kind of stupid. It's selling low. I don't see a problem allowing him to try to find a new place that wants him then they can work it out, but better would be to get him going in the offense. Unless you think he's too stupid to learn it. That may be where they're at.
I saw something detailing how open he was on his routes. If it’s a combo and you pick the one that gets you open I would think that’s most preferred.

There must be more to it than just giving him permission to look. Didn’t want to restructure or something.

Another year with the team and time in camp together with Stafford would make a big difference.

They probably had less than a quarter season together last year.

My guess is Wagner, Floyd and ARob were asked to renegotiate (vs restructure) their contracts to reduce $$$ and declined. Not sure about Ramsey but my guess is he wanted to renegotiate his contract for more $$$ and the Rams declined. Resulting in Rams exploring trade options because an unhappy Ramsey is high drama.

This has much more to do with 2024. Big contracts for players on the downside will be replaced with FAs on the upswing and promising draft picks. There is a master plan to retool. It will just take 2 years instead of 1 year to complete. I’m mentally prepared for an 8-9 2023 season but back to upper echelon NFL in 2024.
That's a bingo!

My guess with Robinson is they hold on to him and try to get him going. Dount he can find a team with strong enough interest to overcome that fresh contract. Keep in mind last year was his second down season and he isn't getting younger. Them giving him the green light to seek a trade won't equate to much.

If they can get out from under it I think it will come with a significant hit this year. So only way that becomes a priority is if he is a distraction. I'd tell him to stfu and study his fucking playbook but you know McVay and his pass game toys.

Makes me think Stafford was part of the problem. Sure seemed like he had blinders or tunnel vision pointed towards Kupp quite a bit. Unless the blinders were McVays and plays were called for Kupp to be the first option. Its not like Stafford had time to look elsewhere.
I rewatched the early games and Kupp was almost always the first option. And with the limited amount of time Stafford had, he was forced to go to Kupp.

It didn't hurt to get OBJ, Von Miller, and Eric Weddle for the last half of the super bowl season. Things like that don't happen every year, so I might call it "fortunate" as opposed to strategy, although it was true in Von Miller's case.
All three of these guys were essential to winning close playoff games. Rams were opportunistic in 2021 in acquiring the players needed to put them over the top. Part of the Rams' strategy was taking advantage of opportunity. It worked.

But they're playing a different hand this year. Imo they will need until next year just to restock the roster. When they can compete to possibly make a run in the playoffs will depend on the level of talent they can acquire and how long it takes to get it, including for drafted players to get up to NFL speed (assuming they pan out).

NFL rosters can be rebuilt reasonably quickly but not necessarily overnight. It's a big challenge for McVay and Snead.

Stafford should have done a better job distributing the ball, in particular to AR. But he didn't throw in preseason and then was under a lot of pressure when passing. At that point he reverted to his most familiar receiver. Just another aspect of a season that crashed.

My problem is, we have a couple of great players with retirement in just about every conversation about them. It seems likely they might not be here when the adjustments kick in. Timing is everything. I think they should try to plug the holes with what the got now and go for it now. Deal with the fall out next year.

Too many holes to plug in one season. Need 2 years of FAs on the rise and decent draft picks IMO. We may be shocked how much money the Rams will have in 2024 along with ALL+ draft picks.

Definitely 9 was part of the problem. He did not have a good season even before the injuries. Seems like the rumors he was playing through a shoulder injury were true, though you'd never know with this damn team and their top secret medical statuses.

But also Robinson was part of that. Just because he's open on a play doesn't mean the ball should automatically come to him. For that to happen it requires hours of good work in camp and practices with a trust level being built. That obviously did not happen. Trust was not there and that is the root of things.

Might be the way I remember things but also it seemed like Robinson was starting to feel the offense a bit but the timing didn't line up with zero protections and the QB getting beat to hell. So idk. But moving Ramsey and Floyd are guys that have value set to certain things they provide. Robinson has no value. He's an older wideout with two bad seasons in a row. I just can't imagine them finding a buyer for him. Think they're gonna have to build his value then if he's playing well and the team is shit you move his ass at the trade deadline to help stack the offseason plan because 2024 is lining up as a rebound year it seems just based on the numbers people are throwing around.

Robinson is the one asking for the trade.

With Jefferson settling in at X WR and Atwell and Skowronek at Y WR the hand writing is on the wall. Both Atwell and Skowronek looked good with Mayfield. I agree with Merlin that Stafford was a major part of the problem. He simply leaned on Kupp too much. Now with tendonitis and his spinal contusion both of which could be chronic problems. Remember his spinal contusion gave him weakness in his legs not allowing him to step into his throws, and as such he overcompensated with his arm leading to the shoulder and elbow issues. This is why Snead and McVay can't bank on him any longer. They are locked into Stafford because of his cap number, and they can't be sure how he will be in September. That is why IMO they will sign Mayfield at a premium for a backup and that has created this cascade of releases and trades.

They might have to pay Mayfield as much as $8M to be a backup this year. They already owe him $4.8M in deadcap which is why IMO they released Wagner. Now they are looking at another $6-$8M this year.
