  • BILL O'BRIENC, HOUSTON TEXANS

NFL analyst Michael Irvin said Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins told him that coach Bill O'Brien likened the former to Aaron Hernandez in a private meeting.
"There was a bit of a power struggle there because coach O'Brien thought [Hopkins] had too much influence over the locker room," Irvin said. "He called DeAndre Hopkins in a meeting...in that meeting, he told DeAndre Hopkins,'Hey, the last time I had to have this kind of meeting like this, it was with Aaron Hernandez.' And from there, the meeting just deteriorated." O'Brien also mentioned, per Irvin, that "he doesn't like [Hopkins'] baby mamas around sometimes." The full clip can be viewed in the link below. The two sides obviously had a falling out, leading to the 27-year-old getting shipped to Arizona for scraps, but these allegations are...something. One would imagine Hopkins speaks up on the matter in his own words in the coming days rather than leaving it to word of mouth.

Jesus this thread still pisses me off. Seriously. I still can't believe how fucking stupid O'Brien is, and how the Cards made out in this deal.

Every other GM in the league has to be kicking their own asses right now that they didn't horn in on this.

DEANDRE HOPKINSWR, ARIZONA CARDINALS

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports DeAndre Hopkins' reps told the Texans weeks prior to the trade that he wanted a new deal paying him somewhere between $18-$20 million per year.
Russini added, "The team was told Hopkins wouldn't show, if he didn't get the deal. Houston moved forward with trade." Friction reportedly existed between Hopkins and Texans coach Bill O'Brien prior to the trade. It turns out the source of those problems was likely money. The deal will pay Hopkins (rightfully) as one of the league's top WRs, something the Cardinals have plenty of room to handle while Kyler Murray remains on a rookie contract. Hopkins is owed $39.9 million over the next three years — a relative bargain at his $13.1 million AVV.

That crosses a line. No wonder why Hopkins wanted out. You don't treat players like that. You don't compare your superstar wide receiver to a fucking triple-murderer.

Yeah, we might have been able to get Hopkins for Gurley, knowing O'Brien.

Hell, Snead should still call him up ...

David Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins still haven’t passed physicals

The biggest trade of the 2020 offseason still isn’t finalized, nearly three weeks after the deal was preliminary done.

Per multiple sources, neither receiver DeAndre Hopkins nor running back David Johnson have passed their physicals. As a result, Hopkins still isn’t officially a Cardinal, and Johnson still isn’t officially a Texan.

So what happens if Johnson or Hopkins fail their physicals? That question was posed by a reader for Sunday’s mailbag, and it justified its own response.

As one source explained it to PFT, Johnson has had a preliminary physical performed on his wrist, which was injured in Week One of the 2017 season. He passed that portion of the physical, despite reduced range of motion that initially caused the doctor (not an NFL doctor) to hesitate. Johnson still has to take a physical as to the rest of his body.

Put simply, if Johnson or Hopkins fail their physicals, the trade will be off. As a practical matter, that gives both the Texans and the Cardinals an out, if they want to avoid the deal — and if they can persuade their doctors to give either guy an “F” on his physical.

For now, there’s no reason to think the Cardinals or the Texans would want to renege. But what if during the draft the Texans have a great running back tumble into their laps in, for example, round three or what if, for example, the Cardinals stumble into a great receiver who would be much cheaper than $22 million per year?

Then there’s the bigger question of what happens with the second-round pick that the Cardinals will be sending to the Texans and the fourth-round pick that the Texans will be sending to the Cardinals? If the physicals aren’t done and the trade isn’t done, how can the 2020 draft picks that were part of the deal change hands?

As one source explained it to PFT, the 2020 draft picks mean that the physicals will have to be done by the start of the draft, or the two sides will have to come up with other terms.

For Johnson, none of it matters; his $10.2 million salary is fully guaranteed regardless of whether the Cardinals or Texans pay it. (He also has another $2 million in fully-guaranteed salary for 2021.)

So the situation gives rises to plenty of questions, and answers in the form of completed physicals or alternative trade terms need to come within the next 19 days.

I think the opposite happened. MCSNEAD said bye bye to Gurley.

Hopkins agent from what I just read
Said they wanted to get paid more or they were going to holdout ?? Whatever ?? It’s done, will see what happens in Arizona . Yes a bad spot for him to go as Ram fans.

Gurley was hanging with him & he also started in on the New collective bargaining deal.

McSnead is about we,not me!!
He said it was a bad deal,Donald said Hell No, don’t sign. —Point being the Locker Room key to success.

$27M per year. I would not do that for a receiver right now. Not even Hopkins.

Man, not sure about those numbers. Plus at the end of the contract. I know there are ways to manipulate the numbers but that’s a lot of cap space during the years Murray will be seeking QB money.

:ROFLMAO:

I’m glad to hear it, if they going to have Hopkins at least he eats their cap space and these next few years after Covid will be tight. If it prevents them from getting another player or 2 f it.

Not to mention we got a Ramsey to answer for him anyways and he’s very familiar with him to.
