Cincinnati was built through FA acquisitions and by eating the 1st overall pick. This formula is risky - Joe Burrow will get paid. In 2023 he will be a 50 million a year QB - that’s going to impact that team like everyone else. I believe that the Bengals spend the least amount of money on scouting and analytics in the NFL - good luck sustaining a team when you can’t write fat checks. Snead, Demoff and McVay are the best example of Coach-Front Office synergy, with an owner who has deep pockets. Mind you, Joey Burrow could be out starting QB in 2027

Spot on

Meanwhile, I wonder if Stafford will give us a home town discount (with a deal structured similar to Brady’s while a Patriot). He is playing for his legacy not the money

It’s not necessarily a bad idea to have a mid 30s QB arguably playing at the top of his game who is now into his 4th contract, heh!

Are you saying Skip Bayless isn't an expert on the Rams?

How dare you sir!

Bayless is only there to provide entertainment . Don’t we all enjoy watching him make a fool of himself? I respect Sharpe though and he was all over the Rams winning and even watched the game with Dickerson

It’s interesting to see posters here still push the win now rhetoric against what I demonstrated. We are all human I guess

The talking heads are still pushing the idea that Snead and McVey went all-in on winning "now" - even if it meant sacrificing the future. Except for one more intelligent article by Peter King, this narrative is voiced by media heads again and again, and again and again and again, and again, and again, and again and again! The counter-narrative is that the Bengals have built their team from the bottom up.

Putting aside the fact that once Rogers retires, or is traded to an AFC team, we will have the premier QB in the NFC and possibly the entire NFL - which is the biggest determinate of future success, does this narrative really stack up?

The Rams are the second-youngest team - on average - in the NFL. Most of our starters and key rotational players are draft picks (playing on 2nd to 7th round contracts). I cannot remember a recent draft where the Rams didn't come away with multiple picks that included players that went on (almost immediately) to become starters? For example, Ernest Jones, who is a stud.

Let's inspect the 2019 draft:

Pick 61 (almost the 3rd round) Taylor Rapp, former starter and key role player in SB victory
Pick 70 (early-round 3) Darrell Henderson, former starter and key role player in SB victory (his play was vital in our victory)
Pick 79 (mid-round 3) David Long, key role player and 12th starter as a nickel back in SB victory (he has his distracters but played well in the playoff run)
Pick 97 Bobby Evans, dud, but still on the team
Pick 134 (4th round) Greg Gaines, a rising star and a key contributor in SB victory
Pick 169 (5th round) David Edwards, plus starting LG (on NFL's best line) in SB victory
Pick 243 (7th round) Nick Scott, starting FS and one of our best defensive players in playoff run

Let's look at the Bengals 2019 draft in comparison:
Pick 11 LT Jonah Williams injured for SB loss, but is an average NFL starter (allowed the 6th most sacks at his position in 2021)
Pick 20 TE Drew Sample backup who made no in SB loss
Pick 72 ILB Germaine Pratt, starter who played well in SB loss
Pick 104 QB Ryan Finley traded, with 7th round pick for a 6th, but was subsequently cut and is a FA
Pick 125 DT Renell Wren is on Bengals practice squad
Pick 136 G Mike Jordan waived, is on Panthers practice squad
Pick 182 RB Trayveon Williams bounced on and off Bengals practice squad
Pick 210 LB Deshaun Davis (picked 33 places before Nick Scott) plays for the Saskatchewan Roughriders
Pick 211 RB Rodney Anderson FA
Pick 223 CB Jordan Brown on Raiders practice squad

Perhaps the more useful question would be how do these hacks, who claim to be reporters, find work?

So much for us sacrificing drafting talent! The 2019 Rams draft might have to go down as one of the best drafts in history even though we didn't take a player before picking no. 61.
That draft comparison is shocking. :wow2:

Good post.

It was perfect to win the championship right away in year one after making that trade. Absolute best case scenario for us and now as 9 matures into that duo with McVay (actually typed Martz there lmao) they're working on stacking another ring or two in this window that he has in horns.

Give this guy another year of good defense and try to improve that run game a bit and they're gonna be right back in these big games. Who knows how it shakes out from there but it's gonna be fun.

If this doesn't give you confidence in our future NOTHING will.

Great post.

I'm looking forward to the Rams' future.

Drafting might get a little harder as all the picks are late in the rounds. That's what happens when you win a SB but, more so when you get comp picks for leaving free agents and coaches. Trader Les doesn't have to trade to get his allotment of sixth-rounders this year. So far the Rams have done well letting certain players leave after their first contract while keeping a very good solid core of players. They were able to get out from under heavy contracts of Cooks, Gurley, and Goff without missing a beat. The Rams made trade decisions to keep improving which to lead to high-quality stars Ramsey, Stafford, Miller and Super Bowl trophy. Now, it's time to make decisions on free agents and set the draft board.

It's going to get very interesting to see who the Rams resign and who they let go. There is a lot of young talent that filled in this year and are ready to move up and grab more playing time. Another draft class will be added to the mix. By most accounts the Rams will have cap space to keep the team in the Super Bowl hunt for at least two to three years. The national media has little clue to the Rams process except for the flash trades. They will be eating their words soon enough.
