Watching the Niners tonight reinforced how far we are from competing for another Super Bowl. They have talent all over the field, on both lines, RB, TE etc. No wonder they kick our ass. They are one trade-- say, Aaron Rodgers-- away from rolling over the NFC.
Not so with the Rams. Yes, there have been catastrophic injuries, but no, we don't have the depth to recover. We lack key starters and depth on both sides of the field.
Rams will be fortunate if Stafford returns for another season. The only playmaker on offense is Kupp and he's out. They otherwise lack weapons at WR, RB and TE. They need at least three new starters on the oline. No running game. No running backs. Overall, the O lacks both speed and power/blocking. The D is better but also lacks key players. AD and Ramsay can't do it all on their own.
A rebuild will likely take time. How long is hard to say. Rams lack high picks and cap space. Double whammy. Too many holes to fill. You can patch holes on a solid roster, but you can't rebuild a roster with a few hired guns. The coaching, drafting, and strategy are now at issue too. Will AD and McVay hang around for this?
Sorry to say this, but-- imo the Rams mortgaged their future to win the Super Bowl and now are about to pay for it.
