I personally don't think it's a fair apples to apples emotional comparison for location neutral fans and home based fans.
There may be small commonalities though. So I'll join the mix and try to console.
As a kid that grew up in Alaska and picked a team solely based on their cool helmet....I remember feeling disconnected during the offseason of the move from LA to the Lou. "St. Louis" Rams did not roll off the tongue.
I wasn't a fan of LA, I was a fan of the "Rams", but still, I did not know if the passion would still be there.
I LOVED the NFL and grade school tackle football growing up. Madden/Summerall...the theme song to Monday night football on ABC gave me goose bumps.....Jimmy the Greek...I freakin' LOVED Football..
But, I was terrified I would find myself orphaned from the game I loved with no team to root for.
Only time will tell.
I've now been a fan of the Rams for about 37 of my 44 years on this floating rock. I've been a fan of the St. Louis Rams longer than I was a fan of the LA Rams.
It's funny, now, "L.A." Rams is not rolling off the tongue for me...but because of the past experience, I know the "fanatic" will come alive when the action starts. For me, I suspect HBO hard knocks, in 3 weeks, will be the booster shot I need.
Hang in there. If the Lou gets another football team down the road, all bets are off, but until then....welcome to the "location neutral" club! To help with that you could just move to Alaska. Thanks to climate change, this place is getting popular. Bring an air conditioning business and you will be just fine.
