I think the thought of going out and getting some stud via trade is fantasy. First off, what's it going to make us? A superbowl contender? Forget it. A division champ? With the way SF is playing? A playoff team? Okay, that's within reach. And what position exactly should we target? Because we don't have the cap room for more than 1, if we even have the cap for 1, and they're probably unwilling to push huge jack into the future after clearing it up this off season. So 5 weeks in, sitting at 2-3 with the schedule easing up considerably, Ramsnation wants them to go out and be foolish all over again?
We went the volume approach in the last 2 drafts and came out with some pretty good players. This year alone we found a stud G, OLB and WR, not to mention a punter. Plus there are more than a few youngsters we fans have no idea what their future is going to be. Davis Allen, Ochuan Mathis and Warren McClendon to mention 3. Zach Evans, Nick Hampton and Hodges-Tomlinson to mention 3 more. I know with Rapp gone, the new whipping boy is Derion Kendricks but I think fans are barking up the wrong tree there. JMHO. And I believe we found a few good players in the previous two drafts. But they're all young.
We knew after the offseason purge, it was going to take TIME. If we can manage to not have a disastrous first half of the season, we might have a pretty good team in the second half. And become a playoff team giving those youngsters even more valuable experience without giving up future draft capital that can be used to fine tune that good team. But by all means, lets throw shit against the wall (fantasy hopes of being a SB contender this year via some blockbuster trade for a future HOFer) and see if it sticks. Or at least makes us feel like we know what's best for us.
