Love golf. Not a great player but enjoy the time outside with my friends. I usually shoot high 80s, low 90s depending on how much beer is consumed during the round, haha. I play Taylor Made clubs with Odyssey putter. Shot a round with a buddies set of Pings a couple years ago and loved them. May go to those for my next purchase, but I do like the Taylors.

I love the Adams fairway woods. I'm a guy who would rather hit a fairway wood than an iron. Mine go up to a 11 wood and the shortest iron I have is a 7. The Adams can get really high and come down nice with very little roll out. I once hit a shot on the green from 180 with the 7 wood and the ball stuck in its own divot. I had to dig it out with the divot tool. Heck, I'd rather hit a 180 yard shot with the wood than a 120 with the iron. I rpb
I had a friend that had the tendency to get his hands in front of the ball so bad. He couldn't hit a 3 wood. But could hit his 7 wood 260 yards. (his hands being in front would change the loft of the club where a 21 or 22 degree 7 wood would become a 2 or 3 wood loft). But he would back off his swing w/ irons and be pretty accurate. I carried up to a 11 wood myself because of being stocky, the woods "sweeping" swing, was more natural than the "picking" swing of irons. It's said you only need "one swing" but we as hackers aren't consistent enough to use the same swing on both. I'm better now w/ hybrids that I have been in the past w/ my middle irons but only since I got these Cobras do I feel good w/ the shorter irons.

I love hybrid irons, but only for the shorter clubs. I prefer the woods for the longer shots. The only true irons in my bag are the lofted wedges. My P/9/8/7 are all hybrid irons. The club face isn't shallow on these like the longer hybrids you see. They're about the size of a regular iron. Seems if I catch them too fat I don't lose as much distance. Before, if I caught a 7 iron too fat, it would only go about 50 yards. With these, it goes about 120. I only lose about 20 or 30 yards. Chipping with them is easier too.

My style is a little unorthodox. I use clubs that older players would use, but a lot of my game is still predicated on power. I'm not good with finesse. If I hit it long it has nothing to do with good technique. Just brute force. I use stiff flex shafts for the woods. I would prefer a shorter shaft with a little more club head weight. I heard of a club they call a thriver. A cross between a driver and 3 wood. Its a shorter shaft and 10 grams heavier for better control. Shorter length shouldn't affect my distance. I'm not a little guy. I'm 6'1" and well over 200 pounds. So is a senior flex less flex than a regular?

As to your post. Whatever you feel good doing is right for you. Someone might come up w/ a better technique or even a better fitted set for you. If you don't feel comfortable then why. Because you aren't going to have fun.

But to answer your question. Stiff shaft should be a swing speed of 85-90 MPH or higher. Regular is from 75-85 mph (and fits most...) and senior flex is under 70-75 mph for men. Now there's certain shafts that have a certain kickpoint (mid, hi, low) which would enhance some games (and would not others) but I won't delude myself or anyone else and try to act as if I could explain the difference. I used to have the most screwed up chipping style. I would actualy have my lead finger of my top hand on the shaft and my lower hand completely on the shaft and the would use any club for a chip from a sand wedge to a 5 iron depending on what I wanted the shot to do. And it worked for me. But I didn't want my boys learning this screwed up process so I dropped it a few years back. And now I don't chip as good as I once did. but my boys have learned the correct way. (Watson's book on 50 yards and in is a great short game primer......)

I have a Wilson Big Red driver in my bag that my buddy won at a charity tournament. It was the prize for the longest drive. He laughed when they gave it to him, since he won the longest drive 3 years in a row with the exact same driver.

I am playing TaylorMade RAC irons, but am ready for an upgrade this year. Not sure what direction I will go yet, but liking what I am hearing about the Pings.

Am I the only one here that uses a long putter. I have the Nike Method 43" belly putter that I love

I'm probably an average chipper. Not great, not terrible. When I chip anything under 25 yards I treat it like a putt. I use my putting stroke with my hands slightly ahead. I'm much straighter with that. I primarily use a sand or pitching wedge. I have too much trouble controlling the speed with anything longer. If I had time to practice I would try to do it the right way. But I sometimes mishit it that way. Easier for me to catch the ball clean with a putting stroke.

I've never tried one. Do they really help? I sometimes get to handsy with my putts. I've heard they help if that's your problem.

I always use a putting stroke to chip. But to choke up on the clubs that much, while it worked for me, was not something I wanted to pass along to the boys. And to address your statement to Rhody........ handsy as in wristy? That's simple. (for a short putter...) form a triangle between your arms and shoulders. Now instead of moving your wrists, move the triangle. And for every inch you go to the backswing, follow through as much. A pendgalum motion.

My nephew is a sophomore in High School. Just started playing golf with his buddies last year, so since I dont play I gave him my clubs to use. Titleist DCI irons, Big Bertha driver.
So this spring he tells me that he joined the HS golf team because they get free range balls and get o play for free or real cheap.
So he's been saving money for awhile and asked me if I would take him shopping for clubs.
So we went and he ended up buying the Taylor made rocket blades
Took him to the range and hit some balls. I worked my way through the bag and was surprisingly sharp with the irons. Got to the driver and cranked the first 2 or 3, really smo'd one good. Then the duck hooks returned and I remembered why I dont play any more

Yeah, I guess it be wrists more than hands. I can actually feel the club head turn slightly when I miss a short one. I switched to a mallet style and try to just kinda let it hang and use the pendulum motion. It helped, but I still occasionally turn it, usually to the left. Maybe I'll try the triangle thing.

I had the worst duck hook for a while. I worked hard to correct it and it worked. Now I have a slice.

probably shaved 3-5 strokes off my game with it, but the difference could be the result of a few things I have been doing better, like chipping closer.

The only problem w/ a long putter is you can't use it in any "official" club tournaments starting next year. But here's a vid to get past it.

http://www.golf.com/video/how-survive-anchoring-ban

I think I'll do like Rhody. Get better at chipping and I'll have easier putts and putt less. I do better with a heavier mallet style and use the pendulum swing to let the putter do all the work. I'm a lot straighter with it and don't miss the 3 or 4 footers anymore. Missing those on occasion can add strokes and frustrate you because you know you should always make them. And its not like other parts of the game aren't frustrating me as it is.
