Traded but not yet gone, former Cardinals quarterback Josh Rosen had one more thing to do before packing up his stuff and moving to Florida.

He appeared at Larry Fitzgerald‘s Celebrity Softball Game on Saturday. According to the Arizona Republic, Rosen specifically stayed for that event.

“I think that’s just a testament to who he is as a man,” Fitzgerald said. “He could have very easily gone down to Miami already, or just said, ‘Hey, I’m not gonna do it,’ but it shows you his commitment, his character, and just friendship. I’m very fortunate to call him a friend. Looking forward to seeing him do great things in Miami.”

Per the Republic, Rosen received a standing ovation before winning the home run derby and ultimately being named MVP of the game. He also addressed the crowd.

“I just want to say thank you to everybody,” Rosen said. “We didn’t win as many games as I would have hoped, but I had a great time and an unbelievable year. Sad to see it up, but new chapters, new beginnings, and I’m excited for things to come. I’ll always be a Cardinal and root for you guys for as long as I’m on my feet.”

“I don’t think anybody could have handled it more professionally than he has,” Fitzgerald said. “I mean he’s been a consummate professional throughout this whole process. And, you know, I think he’s got a lot of people’s respect for the way he conducted himself. And I know all of us are rooting for him in his next stop.”

Plenty of other people will be rooting for Rosen, too. Despite the knocks he took prior to the 2018 draft for (God forbid) having opinions and being willing to share them, Rosen has handled himself admirably over the past few months. And, frankly, the Cardinals should have kept him.

What if Kyler Murray isn’t as good as he’s expected to be? What if he gets injured? The Cardinals will wish they’d kept Rosen and the three years, $6.2 million remaining on his contract.

It’s unclear why the Cardinals believed Murray and Rosen couldn’t coexist, for a year or maybe longer. Maybe the manner in which Rosen has handled himself shows that they could have.

_________________________________________________

For all the criticism of Rosen as a person, he has shown nothing but class since the trade. And none of his teammates have shown him anything but love.

I think the Cardinals have messed up big time.

I'm not sure he would have been so happy if he wasn't traded. These guys want to start before it's second contract time.

Stand up behavior. I’ve been a critic of Rosen, but much respect. We all grow up.

Clean slate for me.

Feel for him man. Dude played at UCLA under a Jeff Fisher type, and now goes to a low end offensive roster under a defensive head coach in Miami. And as I have said before I think Miami's front office is straight garbage. Buckle up.

I wish him well in Miami, thought Rosen was a perfect fit with the Dolphins. GM Chris Grier and HC Brian Flores working well together to put Miami back together, I expect the Dolphins to be very competitive come 2020 and in post season consistently beyond.

I hope Rosen becomes a very good QB and Murray ends up being back up material ( nothing against the guy). That way the Cardinals rue the decision and suck for another 6+ years.

I remember a lot of people claiming that Rosen was cocky and had a bad attitude prior to the draft. I would say that those people were very clearly sorely mistaken.

Maybe this experience had humbled the kid. He was pretty cocky this time last year. I still have doubts he was the problem. He might have been Fishered with the coaching staff and the personnel around him.

Being cocky, within limits, is a good trait for a QB - well, self confidence is often confused for cockiness. I think with a good coach, and some talent around him, he could grow and become a good QB. I don't know what offers they saw for the 1st overall, but a trade down or two and they should have been able to add some OL and a solid or better receiver at least, to give him a realistic chance to develop.

I wish him the best except for when they play the Rams. As for Murray, I have never been a fan of QBs under 6', of course, Drew Brees is the exception.

I hope he totally destroys the Patriots twice a year, who doesn't?

Oh, this guy doesn't:

Being real, there are Rosen haters who don't know anything about him, who hate him because of his opinions, and who absolutely love Joey Bosa for tweets he ended up deleting.

Being Real. People have different views. Do you find one to be more virtuous?

Rosen and Bosa threw out strong political comments and actions to the public. They have probably both learned they are now in the public eye.

Having said all of that, I do believe it is better for these athletes to just play ball, and leave keep their political opinions private. The fans just want to watch football. The teams don't need the distractions. And the players need to focus on what they know.

I don't know what Bosa and Rosen said to the media that were strong political commentary, but they have the right to their opinions. This is America.

You're speaking for yourself about players keeping their opinions private, and just so you know most fans disagree with you. Most fans are OK with players expressing opinions on a wide variety of issues, political and social as well as opinions on other sports, other players, ownership and tons of other things. It's only one facet of each human, each American, of many.

Athletes are people, and they have a platform to deliver a message about their thoughts, which as Americans they are entitled to express, about anything. Wine, politics, clothing, movies, culture, the weather and anything else.

They have the EXACT same rights you and I possess. Preferring that they don't use them in order to please you is an incredibly ignorant and arrogant position to take.

This is like judging someone for the genre of music that they enjoy.

:p Les. Your elitism is showing again. Your lecturing the wrong dude. I thought you knew me by now?

I’m all about people speaking their mind. My only point is that the PC wave overtakes these dudes and for their own sake, they should probably duck their heads and study their playbook.

But thanks for the first Amendment lesson. (y)

Elitism is a big LOL. You're projecting @Farr Be It and you only want to silence athletes because they have a different point of view many times than you do.

It has nothing to do with what you perceive as a "PC wave", it's simply their opinions, and just like you have your own they have their own.

This concept has always been difficult for you to grasp. And it's summed up in the one sentence right here.

You're all about people speaking their mind, except they should just shut up and dribble. That's essentially what you just said there.

What you call "PC wave" might actually BE what they think and feel. And they are allowed that.

It's not hard to see that..........or is it?

Les, I really enjoyed lecture 2.0 but I'll spell it out for you one more time:

I believe in free speech absolutely. Unlike most college campuses today, I actually believe the answer to speech you disagree with is debate, and more speech, not speech codes, not sending violent masked, ironically-named fascist groups out to break windows and punch people they disagree with. Do you?

I also believe that Josh Rosen has the right to wear his "F*** Trump" hat on the golf course, and Bosa should be able to post things on social media in support of the president without people getting so triggered. I even posted something nice about Rosen early in this thread (that YOU liked) wishing him the best. These guys are around the same age as my sons, after all. They all have to work through things, on their way to becoming a man.

And what you said about me wanting to "shut these kids up" didn't even make sense. Their views kind of offset each other. (n) What was my nefarious goal, again?

But....and here is what I was saying in my previous post that you missed, Les...much like the rules of this forum discourage talking about religion and politics, so that we focus on getting along in our common love for the Rams, the NFL is a private organization. As such, fan support for their respective teams, and the league, mean that it is not just about them. As their agent, who negotiates their contracts, (how'd that work out for Kaep?) they might factor in these things, as they exercise their first amendment rights. It was advice for them to be wise, not to shut them up.

A little clearer now, Les?

ya, ya, Rosen is a great guy, yadda yadda yadda....

LOL But how bout that Fitsharvard guy??? has had such a long shelf life in this league. 48 Wonderlic, smartest QB in the NFL -- still raking in F/A QB dollars. Was this his diabolical long-range plan all along? And just what is inside that beard? another football throwing arm???

I'm sure Rosen will beat him out handily. Sounds like Rosen is a good fit for the Fins.

It doesn't help his Miami Dolphins career that the dude looked and sounded like Jay Cutler's little brother at his Miami press conference.
