Coach hit by golf cart at state title game in ’11 suing Cowboys Stadium

Sixteen months after plowing into a high school football coach and a group of reporters, this golf cart apparently still has wheels.

Former Spring Dekaney coach Willie Amendola and his wife, Valarie, have filed a lawsuit against Cowboys Stadium seeking more than $1 million in damages for the incident which occurred after the Class 5A Division II Championship Game between Dekaney and Steele on Dec. 17, 2011.

Moments after his team beat Steele 34-14 for the state title, Amendola and several reporters, including the Express-News’ Lorne Chan, were struck by an unmanned golf cart that, video later revealed, got away after an end zone pylon fell onto the accelerator. Amendola was thrown onto the hood of the cart and carried away for several yards before rolling off the side and onto the ground.

Amendola appeared to not suffer serious injuries at the time, even cracking a joke while resuming his post-game interviews.

“Did you guys get that? Wonder what the UIL is going to do about that?” Amendola told the Express-News then.

According to the lawsuit, the incident caused Amendola physical pain, “mental anguish,” “loss of earning capacity” and “loss of enjoyment.

Video of the event quickly went viral. One YouTube video of it has nearly one million views, which, according to the lawsuit, “caused great personal embarrassment” to Amendola and his wife.

Amendola, the father of New England Patriots receiver Danny Amendola, is currently head coach at Conroe High School.

Here’s a link to the lawsuit, thanks to the Dallas Morning News.

Smh loss of enjoyment give me a break. If you wanted to sue you shoulda done it earlier then now

that's worth a million dollars?

*runs to the local bar that has a driving range*

This is a link to the actual lawsuit that was filed. Suing the stadium authority, I guess.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/135364985/Amendola-v-Cowboys-Stadium" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.scribd.com/doc/135364985/Ame ... ys-Stadium</a>

And since the video is causing him "great personal embarrassment", he should probably sue YouTube too.
Hell, sue me for having it posted on my board.
Sue everyone!

Such a joke this law suit.

Not true he could have a bruised ovary or something, we don't know. So we shouldn't judge.

That's not really how it works.

First you try and settle your claim, then if you are unable to do so, you file an action. Speaking from a California statutory standpoint only, the timing on their suit is just about right - provided they were unable to reach settlement. Seems pretty normal to me. Run of the mill.

Now regarding any injuries, that I don't know. If this were a minor incident, he and his attorney may be wanting more money than the stadium's insurance carrier thinks is reasonable. If so, they are at an impasse, which usually precipitates a law suit. Reasonable or not.

Go Rams.

Looks like someone rigged a pylon to hold the pedal down hahahaha
