Love when this topic pops up.
Born and raised in NJ, in what locals referred to as North Jersey. Family of die hard Giants fans, dad would get 2-3 home games per year. So naturally, I became a Rams fan. I honestly dont know how it happened, or when it started, I just cant remember a time when they werent my favorite team. I was 12 when they played the Steelers in the SB and was already a die hard fan.
Rumor has it that I was a Joe Namath fan because of the Magic Bean episode and when he finished his career wearing the greatest helmet in sports, I was hooked.

Grew up in Redskins and Colts territory in piedmont of Virginia. Was nearly a Colts fan with Johnny U and Earl Morrow but Roman Gabriel and the HORNS won my heart. I was about 10. Went to Georgia out of high school with the USAF, later lived in Detroit a couple of years and then back to Georgia but RAM fandom survived it all and always will.

I guess we got this backwards, or something.... been married 45 years - but I got my wife a tractor just last year... In your 60/70's, this device is invaluable around the farm!
LOL. No I think you got just right. Being married as long as you guys have,
There is no specific order of things, It's about what works for each marriage.
Congratulations on your 45yrs together.

That tractor is just what the DR ordered, as we get older, it's time to let the
machine do the heavy lifting. My Dad is 80 and has heated with firewood
for as long as can remember and he has a yard tractor. He has also
made some clever devices that removes most of the heavy lifting.

He used to weld for a living and has always been clever at inventing
different projects. He quit school at 16 and his spelling isn't the best. but
he is much smarter than I will ever be.
Enjoyed your post RamsFanWA.

Its pretty amazing that the Rams were the first team to put
emblems on their helmets.
And the horns is what has seemed to attract a lot of us to
pick the Rams as our team.

This whole thread has turned out to be much better than I thought.
Just some Great childhood stories and getting acquainted with some
ROD members I hadn't spoke with before.

Rams growing fans in Maui was awesome. I can sense that the Rams
are building a fan base that will very soon give us an actual homefield
advantage. Go Rams!!!!

with a broke leg. Look up "Man" in a dictionary and its just a picture of jACK!
He was my first( Favorite Ram)

I'll keep to topic, spent a few years as a Rams fan stationed in the D.C. area, in the '80s when Joe Gibbs and the Redskins were in their glory. The fans were insufferable. Proudly supported my Rams.
Never could stand Joe Gibbs or Theisman. Riggens was fun to watch though.

RAMS played steelers in 1975 on a Saturday night 'special edition of MNF and in 1978 on a Sunday night version of MNF. LA won both matchups allowing a total of only ten points combined across the two games.
Thanks, I was either 7 or 10 so the details are fuzzy. Im guessing now 78 since my uncle used to visit every Sunday night.

In third grade I had the Rams letterman style winter coat, rams hat, and gloves.

It saved my ass from a beating on the way to wrestling practice once. Two older kids started pushing me around and their even bigger friend, Gary Bordner, came over to join in. One look at my apparel and he told them to back off. Gary was also a Rams fan.

I have also said this before but I became a Ram fan around 1970 (loved Roman Gabriel and wanted to be a QB) and have been a diehard fan ever since. Lost all interest in other sports over time. Grew up in upstate NY right in the heart of the finger lakes in Seneca Falls. Went to school in Herkimer and then Geneseo and finally settled in Victor. Where did you grow up Mola?

I grew up in Endicott NY, small town, close to the Pennsylvania border. If you never heard of it, it's near Binghamton. If you never heard of that, I can't help you.:laugh1:

Yep, Roman was also my hero back then.
I remember the local sporting goods store didn't have any Rams jerseys, but they could special order one. My only choices were Merlin Olsen or Deacon Jones, the old 3/4 sleeves, only in white. So I saved my morning paper route money (felt like it took forever), and ordered the Olsen. Waiting for that ALSO felt like it took forever.

If you remember the jerseys from back then, after multiple washings the rubber/plastic numbers would start to peel and fade. I was NOT going to let that happen....so I kinda kept trying to just spot clean it. A WHITE jersey. Worked for a while, but it did nothing for the smell. Finally surrendered it to Mom.
It ended up like the rest of them, faded, peeling numbers, but it was so awesome!

(Can't believe I remembered all that shit).

Threads like this help us all remember that kind of "shit".
Born in LA and lived there until 18 years old in '74. Only Rams game I ever attended was around '68 or '69. Can't even remember the opponent. Gabriel at QB, Bass at RB along with Les Josephson. Defense awesome as usual. Don't remember if they won or lost. Too young and dumb.
But the fandom lived on through the mid-70's when I moved to Chicago and lost touch with the Rams. Kept informed (to a degree through RamPages and USA Today).
Finally managed to rejoin the faithful in '95 with the help of the internet after having moved to the northeast. In time for the miracle of '99 - '01 (after and before some brutal seasons).
Feel absolutely blessed to have been able to experience the McVay years these past few seasons. I'll be 70 next winter but you'd better believe I'll be watching for more Super Bowl runs in '25 and beyond.

Hello, North Carolian Ram fans. Graduated from Gardner-Webb College in the southwestern part of the state. About 100 of us New Jerseyans somehow ended up at a Southern Baptist (CULTURE SHOCK!!!)—mixed group of fans, Eagles, Giants, Skins, Cowboys, and me, a Rams fan.

In 1965, my brother introduced me to the Dodgers playing the Twins in the World Series. He was a Packers fan, so I stayed with the LA theme and became a Rams fan. The horns were a big part of my choice. In the 1960's the Rams players were part of the Hollywood scene. The Feasom Foursome singing on TV. Roman Gabriel and Merin Olsen in the movie "The Undefeated" with John Wayne and Rock Hudson. Oddly enough, the Rams were on TV quite a bit as the 4 O'Clock EST second game after the Giants on CBS. I did live in SoCal in the 80's. I moved to Anaheim/Garden Grove a few miles from Angels Stadium, just before the Rams/Steelers Super Bowl. My buddy and I watched the game upstairs in the Rams coach Ray Malavasi's restaurant bar on a projection big screen TV. That was a big deal back then. Almost a dream come true!

Was 9 years old one cold winter Sunday in December in NY watching the 4:00 games with my 2 older dickhead brothers. All I knew was Bart Starr as I hadn't settled in on my team just yet. The whole game the Packers were leading and my 2 brothers who were Giant fans kept saying the Rams would win the game as I was rooting for the Packers. Late in the game the Packers all but had the game locked up and then the Rams blocked Donnie Andersons punt and recovered it on the 5 yard line. 2 plays later Roman Gabriel hit Bernie Casey in the corner of the end zone for the winning score.
The following Thursday my mom took me to the Doctor and in the office while waiting I saw a Sports Illustrated with Roman Gabriel on the cover and picked it up. Inside was a story about the game showing pictures of the blocked punt and the TD to Casey and I looked at those Helmut's and that was it. 2 weeks later I had a poster of Gabriel on my bedroom wall and have been a die hard ever since.
Many years later I was watching a show about Vince Lombardi and it was a documentary about their season. They had extensive footing of that game and that further cemented me into the Ramily. Roman is my all time favorite Ram thus the photo on my profile. I used to call myself Ramon Gabriel when I was a kid lol. I have an original white Gabriel jersey and a signed Helmut.
I couldn't wait for TV Guide to come out when Rams were playing on Sundays to see the lineups in there in black and white and the look of our Helmut's.
I now live in South Florida and have been watching the Rams ever since.

That pass against the Chiefs was one of the greatest passes I had ever seen.
