Before this, silver basically accused Mcvay and Aikman talking bad behind Goff's back , and that Aikman was using the info to trash Goff during broadcasts. Here's Aikman's response :

Aikman called it like he saw it and realistically has more insight into Goff’s play this year than anyone on this forum. Many of us just didn’t like to hear it.

Yeah I feel like that's why he took so much offense to it.

I am not a Mike Silver honk, but Aikman was too critical when I listened to his analysis of Goff. He seemed to be offended by Jared and it pissed me off. Just because Goff is gone now, that doesn't change. Screw Aikman.

It's interesting. I used to feel that way about Aikman until I soured on Goff. I do think that silver's article was strangely pointed at Aikman and McVay.

Mike Silver is too invested in Jared G. A pipeline into the Rams has been shut off and if he had any relationship with McVay, it doesn't sound like that one is going to continue. He is not that objective and sounds like a brother of an ex-spouse....

“Unlike Michael Silver, I strive to be fair and balanced and do not have an agenda when doing my job,” said Aikman.

Damn, harsh but true. I'm not a big fan of Aikman at all in the booth but agree with this quote. Silver rarely types anything (articles or in social media) that isn't drowning in agenda. And he's particularly aggressive when it comes to players or teams he likes. Which Goff is his alma mater pal from Cal. And he gets extremely defensive and whiny when called out on it.

I’ve listened to Aikman many times and he always sounds like he’s pushing an agenda and is rarely fair. This doesn’t just apply to Goff, I’ve seen him rail against a guy for a few bad plays the. The guy does something very good and he doesn’t comment on the good. His partner in the booth is even worse with very well known biases that he doesn’t hide.

Yeah, like I said I'm not a fan of Aikman but his quote of Silver is true. The notion that McVay was trashing Goff and using Aikman to push anti-Goff rhetoric throughout the season is some grade A conspiracy shit for the sake of creating drama to sell clicks.

I think there are some valid critiques that apply to both sides.

Silver does have his biases and definitely likes Goff. He was the same way with Kurt back in the day, and if I remember right, he wrote the first major article in SI when Warner exploded onto the scene. He doesn't really try to hide his bias, but that doesn't negate its existence. On the flip side, he doesn't report bullshit or make things up out of whole cloth, at least in my observation.

Aikman is a smart analyst and definitely knows football, no question about that. But he is hypercritical sometimes. In this instance, it appears what Silver wrote touched a raw nerve, and not only did he respond in a very defensive manner, he did not say anything to refute the reporting about what happened in the production meetings. If there was nothing to it, he could have easily said "the critiques of players are mine and mine alone and never originated from discussions at the production meetings."

Aikman has a job to do. Dragging McV into this is pure idiocy. If someone wants to point fingers at someone for pushing agenda's look no further than the media producers involved, who are also doing their job...which is to sell narratives to the folks who watch. Narratives that jive with the bigger agenda's of the owners of said media company. And so on and so on.

This particular narrative is to sell NFL star power. Jared Goff is not a part of that narrative.

Yeah. I can listen to Aikman at least he's not a guy I turn the sound down for like Collingsworth who is a fucking simpleton. But I do agree with you that he's got something against Goff. And he always has.

I remember I think it was the Vikings game which was to my mind Goff's greatest game, and one that stands as a really nice example of what he can do. Goff hit a deep pass and Aikman was like "I didn't think he had the arm for that." And I just had to laugh, it's ridiculous the way he constantly devalued what Jared would do even the good things. Could have been a different game, think it was a deep pass to Woody where Kupp took the safety but either way.

Now do I think he does it willfully? No. I just think he has an opinion of Goff that is unflattering and it comes out every time he talks about him. It's pretty obvious.

You know who is amazing as an analyst is Vilma. I don't know how that dude doesn't get moved up. Every time I watch a game he does he nails it. How in the world the network doesn't see what he's doing I have no idea.

Oh Silver also has an agenda we know he's a Cal guy and we know he was a Fisher guy as well. I just think it's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black on Aikman's part.

Very true, he also used to play QB at one of the highest levels in NFL history. I'll take his word for it when he says a QB isn't getting it done.

Aikman was drooling on Goff back in 2018. With Goffs declined play and his criticism I felt like it was fair. I always felt like he knew that Goff can be better and was just frustrated as many of us were here. I’m one of the few who actually like him in the booth and don’t let his criticism of any rams player make me hate him.

Aikman needs to watch tapes of him playing and see that he is way over rated, and that he really has no justification to criticize any quarterback.

I thought those rumors about Aikman were untrue...

Oh, wait...

Guess I should have read more than just the thread title.

Silver is obviously a shill for Goff and outside of himself and a few of us on this board there aren’t too many people who have had anything positive to say about Goff’s play the last 2 years. That includes other teams fan bases, announcers, fellow players, talking heads and former GMs and talent evaluators for other teams so I don’t know why Silver is singling out Aikman unless he’s lurking on this board. Lol
