I always thought coaches the ownership wanted to retain were extended prior to the final year of their contract so as not to appear to have "lame duck" status.

Fisher has brought the team as far as he is able.

A undisciplined penalty machine that is capable of grinding out a win against anyone, but yet get blown away by a inferior opponent the next week. Five more years of this?

I have seen enough of it and hope the search for a new coach was begun after the 1st game.
I always thought that the reason they floated the contract extension had already been hashed out was to make it appear as if Fisher was not a lame duck coach so the team wouldn't quit on him.

No offense sent, but what has he done in this league? The guy is super overrated, imo.

nobody should get offended about hearing the truth. we all knew he would get the rams to around 500 but we had our doubts he could do more than that. 5 years later and we know the answer.

interesting point.

the team never looks like it's quit but it does look like it isn't well coached. always the same boneheaded mistakes.

I hope these reports are true. I'm tire of putting my faith in this team every year only to be let down.

I recognise the job Fisher has done in getting us to around .500. He's a hundred times better than what went before him. But 4 years on from that improvement with no further improvement means it's time to get the next man in I'm afraid.

I'll always endorse stability in the NFL but you have to draw the line somewhere.

I'm not going to say I'm a know it all but just like the move to LA this is starting to become glaringly apparent. Fisher won't be fired before the end of the season and will be allowed to coach on until the end of the season but as of now he won't be extended. Stan/Demoff will let the respect stay intact not firing him and going separate ways after the season without a " firing" to tarnish his latest tenure.

Just like Stan wasn't happy about that SAN Fran game this LA money maker project is in no way a secured investment yet and he still has some focus on it. I don't see him letting this slide into mediocrity and blow up the total bloom of appreciation from moving the franchise to LA.

Well, I do believe he's on the hot seat because he's in the last year of the contract and I do believe the next four games are critical and he needs to win more than he looses to have a winning record after 11 games, that being posted I predict the Rams will go 4-0 in those games because I am destined to have Fisher as Ram coach for a few more years.

Not that our coach is any better. Jason .500 is his name.

We haven't even gotten to .500 or sniffed the playoffs.
And your coach was a better QB than Keenum too...

Interesting theory here.
Not sure why Fisher would play along although I don't recall him ever saying they were working on it either.
Don't know if we'll ever know the truth but my guess is that Fisher wanted more than the 1-2 year obligatory deal

Even if Fisher does well in the next 4 games, expect a penalty laden, mistake riddled, nail biting series of 3 point wins. Is that really enough for him to keep his job? The next two seasons are about ushering in an exciting, winning brand of football that will fill the new venue. These Fisher seasons are painful to watch-even the wins. Rams need a premier coach that has a long history of success in either the college or pro ranks. LA is now a premier job with an owner that allows a coach to run the show. My fear is it will be up to Demoff to select the successor.

I think that's a good point.

Even if they do win enough of these next 4 games, they would probably do so in a boring, ugly fashion.

And I think you are spot on... Kroenke is using the Jerry Jones model... it's all about marketing.

Nobody wants to watch a boring movie... especially in LA.

With that, I feel that Goff will start against the panthers but an announcement won't be mentioned until around game day. I live across the street from Cal Lu so I will look to see if Goff is getting more first team reps.
And we will be waiting for your Report, one way or another!!!! Don't fail us bro, your in the best position to get us a Truthful Report!! With No:blah::blah: BS!!(y):D

With an impeding loss to NE, the team is virtually 3-5 right now
So *if* they lose to Carolina and fall to 3-5(6), all hell will break loose IMO
Man the back end of this schedule looks rough

Next four games are all winnable, btw. Not that I expect Fisher's team to take advantage or anything, but Panthers at home, @ Jets, Dolphins at home, and @ Saints are all games this roster could win.

After that it gets pretty tough with the Patriots, Falcons, and three division games. Not lookin good for Jeff, really hope he gets this team to turn it around and keep it going.
I agree , Merlin, The Rams Next 4 games will be the "Softest" part of the rest of the Rams Schedule!
IF they are to put a string of say 4 Wins, this could be their Last chance to do it! The Final 5 game, with the exception of the 49er game, won't be easy!

With our current coaching staff there are no winnable games left on the schedule and injuries are just going to make it that much worse. Time to start working on the future now!

lets just go total

58 penalties....crucial times...repeat offenders...ultimately killing or extending drives...yet the HC can't stop it? Ok...that's a loss of control...if....huge if...IF he's really trying to stop or control it...
Just curious. I'm not taking a run at you here.
But how would you stop it? Consider that they (again) have an extremely young team, and consider that they DO address this constantly between games and punish players during practice for penalties committed the game prior. The only real option is to bench players for it. But consider how that weakens the team. So, honestly, how would you stop it. The Seahawks are generally very high in penalties over the course of a year too, but it doesn't seem to affect their ability to win games.

Some food for thought. When you look at age/experience this might explain some of the things being discussed. With youth, there are going to be growing pains regardless of roster talent or coaching.

Ranking NFL teams by age after 53-man cutdowns: 2016 edition
EAGLES NFL PHILADELPHIA NFL AGE

BY JIMMY KEMPSKI
PhillyVoice Staff

As of roughly 9:15 p.m. on cut-down day, when we finished collecting data from all 32 NFL team website rosters, the Los Angeles Rams had the youngest team in the NFL. The Atlanta Falcons are the oldest. By the time you read this, this data will already out of date as teams continue to make tweaks to their rosters, although even with continued roster movement, the average ages of each team shouldn’t change much.

"The difference between the Rams and Falcons is only 2.08 years."

While 2.08 years may not be a big difference between two individual players, keep in mind that these are the average ages of 53 players per team.

2.08 years on average * 53 players = A difference of about 110.3 total years between the Rams and Falcons.

In other words, if you took the 22 oldest Falcons and shaved 5 years off each of their ages, their roster still wouldn't be as young as the Rams.
