I see annual dogfights for the division crown for the foreseeable future. I mean knock-downs and drag-outs. Lol.

All 3 teams have the following:

Good FO’s.
Good HC’s.
Good to very good rosters.
Good QB’s.

I will say this about the Rams...

I expect a better scoring D this season under Staley. Call it Fangio lite.

I expect a much better OL than last years version. Low bar, I know.

I expect a top 5 scoring O next year.

I expect the Ram ST units will improve to at least top third, a significant improvement.

I expect that offseason moves will be made with an eye to primarily countering the strengths of the 49ers and the Seahawks. It’s now imperative to win the division before any thoughts of playoffs against outsider teams. This can’t be overstated. Rams are now playing in the toughest division in football and it’s not even close.

Can’t believe I’m posting this, but an 11-5 record kinda looks like a goal for next year for the Rams. And at least a 4-2 division record in order to have a chance at tiebreaker advantages.

Oh, and btw, don’t go to sleep on the Cards, either. A solid offseason for them makes them a real handful. Geez...

The 9ers run game is off the charts in comparison to the Rams.

Rams defensive front seven will have its hands full trying to shut down their powerful smooth operation. The 9ers HC currently has the offense peaking @ the best time going into the SB. In comparing the Rams 2018 offense going into the SB vs 2019 9ers offense this season.....not even close.:censored:

The 9ers defensive front 7 is also one of the best in the NFL, young & still ascending....once again our Ram offense will need to gell quickly in order to compete next season. I feel so bad that I do not come close to sharing your optimism on the future Ram teams 2020/2021. Rams confront a steep uphill struggle in all phases of this NFL team operation.

Real glad we have GM Les Snead here to attempt to steer this Org moving forward & in the right direction back into contention.

Everything you say is true, but the games aren’t played on paper. The Hags weren’t very talented but somehow got into the playoffs. Before the season the cowboys looked like a SB contender.
This division is tough and will probably stay that way.

I understand your pessimism, Bonifay.

Dethroning the 49ers is a tall order.

About the OL. Recall the turnaround of the ‘16 OL into the ‘17 OL in one offseason? I believe that Snead/McVay can accomplish a similar and easier improvement this offseason.

i think that they will bring in an effective RB from the outside, draft or FA. With a fixed OL our O should then be back in business. Hell, maybe better than ever if you consider our TE improvement.

I believe that Wade had lost his fastball and I further believe that Staley will install a Fangio like D with dangerous unpredictability threats. Schemes and players will change for the better.

ST should be better than last years mediocre results, don’t you think?

In short, we lost 3-4 games last year that we never should have lost. I think we win those games this year by improving OL, RB, and Staley’s new D.

Gonna be fun to watch the offseason moves this year, but I’m kinda optimistic at this point.

NFC West will remain the best division in football in 2020. But that said I don't subscribe to the fear of the enemy that runs rampant on many other Rams boards (not this one obviously).

We won 9 games in a season in which we suffered immense OL injuries and disappointments, and in which the secondary was blown up and rebuilt. In the league's best division. That's how good McVay is.

So I'll leave the hand wringing to others. :)

But I think the fundamental question will remain.....how will we stop the 49ers run game? Don't know where we ranked in run d last year, but i think that stat doesn't mean much when they can literally run 85% of the time in the playoffs and make the Super Bowl. Unheard of in this era that the QB was a non factor during the 2 wins. We do have a ton of question marks, that to me is what makes the off season so cool. Wheeling and dealing.....every team is faced with similar issues. We'll see who can make themselves better and who can't.

I never seen a team collectively this fast. All three of their RB's are fast with Coleman being their slowest. Both of their wide recievers are fast and I don't know how fast they are compare to Brandin Cooks but they are also not small like him. They can make contested catch unlike Cooks.

Regarding their RB's, are they faster than prime Gurley? Mostert and Brieda are so fast. Sanders and Samuel are fast recievers. Are they faster than Cooks? Meanwhile Woods and Kupp have just average speed. Both fantastic players but do not have the speed that the 49ers have. Not to mention don't the 49ers still have that Godwin kid who is crazy fast?

I envy them with their speed. I'm not even going to mention that their team is strong and physical. I just wanted to mention their speed in this post. I think this is my first thread ever on here. Imagine if Woods and Kupp had 49ers speed. We be unstoppable as well.

We need two things IMO...

1. Upgrade at 5T. We lack physicality there and have since McVay came aboard.

2. Upgrades at LB. Where we are weakest is ILB where Littleton is more of a chase/Will type. Great in coverage too but marginal at best in pure run fills.

You can bet additions at both are incoming. We could use help at OLB too but you can't fix everything in one offseason. If they fix the above our defense will put teams in 3rd and long.

Yes, I will be upfront & center observant on what Snead & McVay procure this off season. Hopefully it will be entertaining!

Agree with you fully on Special Team trending downward in 2019 for no valid reason IMO!

Agree with you also on Wade too. Snead/ McVay moved the blazing sun to get Wade what he wanted & in the end he was unable to deliver! That was plain to see without even looking.

I would make upgrading the Offense the #1 priority for Snead/ McVay. They need to get the help that Goff painfully needs to make this often sickly often cold catching weak offense back in shape & running smooth. Goff is just not talented enough to do much on his own. The Rams receivers (TE/WR/SL) currently signed for 2020 are the best in the NFL. It will remain in concert for one more season. Snead/McVay needs to take full advantage of this.

Of course utilizing the 2020 draft to secure 2 additional unit talented OL'ers to blend into the already existing young Ram OL. then you will need to upgrade Rams RB cadre ASAP.

Gurley needs help @ this stage of career. First a much stouter powerful RB/FB type who can be Goff's final pass protector type & a real short super fast dart & dasher is also on order (Clyde Edwards-Helaire). Both should be easy finds & draft selections by Snead's scouts with our four 3rd day draft selections.

I see 2020 as a transitional year rather than one where we are competing for a Super Bowl. Bringing in a new DC and OC, replacing old-guard starters like Brockers, Fowler, Littleton, Whitworth, etc. likely lost to free agency, the Rams will need to adjust some with new and younger starters taking over. It will be more like 2017 imo, but it won't be 2018 just yet, ... that i'll reserve for 2021.

Yeah - NFC west is going to be good for a long time, but iron sharpens iron.
And we'll be seeing some great games. Don't forget - the rest of the NFC West also has to play the NFC West.
One thing I'm kinda' glad about, is (I suspect) we won't have as many prime time, as in MNF and SNF games in 2020. I think they mess with routine, but we'll see. At least no fucking London game next year, (with apologies to our British members:sneaky:).

Last year was imo a perfect storm. I distinctly remember watching the Carolina game (we won by a field goal), and thinking, (first game of the year notwithstanding) we just did not look the same. We all know about the Oline/Gurley saga, but add in losing JJ, Matthews for a month, gutting and replacing our corners, Cooks out for 3 weeks, Henderson maybe not picking up things as fast as hoped for - don't know that's the issue, but something was - Goff regressing a little, and the (very real) SB hangover, and THEN, we miss a easy FG by 6" (for the loss), and give up TWO fucking third and 16s (for another loss), and I don't know WHAT the fuck happened in Dallas, and we still manage 9-7.

Anyway, given that, I feel really good about next year, especially since we started getting some TE play, which is only going to get better. Plus Rams get new unis and a new home. Definitely things tpo look forward to, as well as the upcoming Snead show, as @Stump23 alluded to.

Cheers!

They are fast everywhere....but, part of their speed comes from the misdirection while a D having to worry about getting manhandled by their OL.
They are fast but it really comes down to their power run blocking.

Right now the Whiners roster is better than everyone else in the west by a pretty fair margin.
Things can change year to year and the offseason and Rams coaching changes can make a big difference.

Do we really need more 9er worship here?

IMO they're more well coached and react quickly than a team with great speed. Look at their LBs last night vs Green Bay, they are big and physical type backers but were breaking on the short outlet passes instantly with zero hesitation and making plays. Great coaching is a big part of that equation.

Same deal with the offense. You can make mediocre RBs look great when there are run lanes 3 yards deep into the defense that stay open.

I wouldn’t get too carried away with marking the niners as the next big dynasty or unbeatable .. I mean look what happened to us since mcvay and co rode into town ..winning seasons all three years Super Bowl trip last year 30ppgs .. and for whatever reason be it injuries bad OL poor production from key players .. we missed the playoffs ... it could be a fluke year for the niners .. even the cards are a decent team and could surprise

We are in the hardest division in football bar or all four teams could fall off a cliff next year for any reason

Roll on September is all I can say

I thought I would look at and post their pending free agents.

Unfortunately, their offensive line is going to be together for 2-3 years. Staley is getting older. You never know about injuries but, that will be a strength for a while.

I can see their defensive line taking a few hits. They are going to have to make decisions on who they keep and who they let go. Just like the Rams. Kittle going to cost them.

The Rams stayed with them late last year. They need to have a good offseason and they can hang with both teams in the West.
